Didn't find any thread about the game so I decided to make one since I got an Alpha invite
I played alot of Dota 2 so I have some experience in Mobas...
The game is fun so far, games are quick (15-30 minutes) compared to Dota 2. There is not itemization in the game and you only pick your talents and your skills.
I'm just lvl 6 right now so I haven't tried all the heroes but you have different roles : Assassins, Healers, damage dealers, support. It's fun to use Blizzard's Heroes into a different universe. You have Heroes from Diablo, Starcraft, WoW and Warcraft.
Yeah that is a big part of the appeal to me, shorter game time, more focus on team then individual. I know there will still be toxic players, tons of bm, but I imagine it will be more like WoW PVP where people BM the team and not so much individuals for being bad.
After about 10 games I am quite liking this. It is kind of MOBA meets WoW BG. The basic laning / tower attack & defense gameplay is there but each map has different mechanics that you want to win for your side to help buff your minion waves or debuff the opponents minions/towers. Adds some flavor to the game, and creates some variety in gameplay from map to map without changing the core concept of the game.
The talent selection system allows for the same customization you would get with items in LoL/DOTA but requires less encyclopedic knowledge of the game. Great for reducing the entry level requirements of play but still sufficient choices to tailor your character to your play / role.
The basic laning concept is there but the game is way more team focused. The map objectives kick in pretty early forcing the game into team fights over objectives so there is constantly lots of action and early deaths. Generally laning is just grab the closest lane to farm and push towers for those brief moments between there being something more important to do.
