Hey guys, I just got GTR2 and the G25 wheel. Sick forsure.
Comp Specs:

AMD FX64 3500+
1GB 400mhz ram
250 SATA
A8N-SLI deluxe motherboard
1280x1024 res

I had a 6600GT and I could hardly run the game smoothly. I upgraded to a 8800GTX and it runs a lot better but still kinda choppy. What gives? I cant even run close to full everythihng. Is there a serious bottleneck?

What recommendations?

I bought this card so I could move the comp down to my HDTV.

Is it my amount of ram? 400mhz? or my chip?

I don't personally have GTR 2, but I have a slightly faster CPU (plus it's dual core) then you and an 8800GTX. In several games, my framerates are still limited by my CPU. At the framerate you're running the game in, your video card is definitely not your bottleneck. I would guess upgrading your cpu first may help, perhaps only having 1 gig of ram being your second bottleneck.

I know in Test Drive unlimited, if you have only one gig, the game has to stream the graphics from the hard drive a lot more frequently, resulting in a lot more hitches and stutters when driving fast.

should I try another gig of pc3200 400mhz ram?

I dont want to dish out the 80 bucks when its still going to be the same.

I guess in a couple months I could upgrade to a 680i SLI motherboard with a E6600 with 2gb 800mhz epp ram and overclock it...but if i can solve my problems with 1 more gig of ram now ill do that.

what do you think.

I guess theres no way my current comp will drive a 50" 1080i display at 1080i right?

I would wait and get the E6600. Prices are dropping on them soon anyways as the next revision of the core duo's are due out shortly.

If you're running vista, I would definitely say you could use 2 gig. If xp, I guess you could wait.

Most of the newer games also definitely benefit from a dual core. I'm currently running an amd opteron 160 overclocked to 2.7ghz, but am still cpu limited in the cities in Oblivion, Test Drive, Stalker, and several other games. I myself will probably wait till the fall or so for more price drops and go for quad core.

Well Should I look into overclocking my CPU and GPU maybe a little? GPU to say 600/1000 from 575/900

and CPU 2.2 GHZ to ???

AS for cooling - Antec case, forget which one. It has the ducting running out the back with another large fan with slot loading HD's from side and slot loading CD drives from front, quick release side. Sonata 2 or something?

CPU has a heatsink with another fan on it.

Did you try downloading the latest drivers from nvidia? try that first The 8800GTX is a very powerful card and GTR2 is not all that demanding... hmmmm. I'll ask my pc guru friend and get back to you.

Ok, my freind says if your using vista you'll definitely need more ram (try and get matching sticks) here is a decent 2GB set from newegg:RAM
Whether your using vista or nor it makes sense to upgrade anyway since you invested in a high end card. The CPU could also be a bottleneck, you should try to overclock to 2.5-2.7. After all that is done and you still have problems, its time for a new CPU. Hope that helps.

Yeah 2GB RAM with Vista, Vista can use 1GB alone.

Something is configured hokey. You should be able to max that game out with an 8800GTX. Your CPU is not exciting, but sufficient. There is a bottleneck, but I doubt that it is the issue.

If possible you may want to increase the resolution. The 8800 loves high-res.

+2 on the 2gb ram. Either that or the game is badly coded. Most games today requires a lot of ram. Even if you have the fastest cpu or gfx card and not enough ram. It will jitter to hell.

Well turned out a family member needed a new comp. So I gave them my old one and built a new one from scratch. Ive never actually done this before so it was interesting. Buying every component separetely and puttin them together. Here is what I could afford to get.

My PC is now:

E6600 core 2 duo w/copper golden orb heatsink w/ fan intake.
Asus P5N32-E Sli Pro Nvidia 680i motherboard.
2GB corsair 800mHz EPP Sli Ram
750W Silverstone PSU
16xLG Dual Layer DVD+-RW
250GB WD SATA HD.
2 120mm fans
ASUS 8800GTX

Put it all together along with a fresh install of XP SP2 with latest everything.

Runs amazing now.

CPU runs 32C idle and 40C under full load.
8800GTX runs 58C idle and 63-64C under load.

3dmark06 scores for reference only:

old pc @ 2.2GHz, 33xx
old pc @ 2.4Ghz, 34xx

New Pc stock = 11xxx Havent overclocked anything yet. But from what ive seen, the E6600 is an absolute beast to overclock on air! which is nice!

I'm running GTR2 w/ a G25 as well.

The PC specs:

AMD 3700+ San Diego
2gb ram
DFI nf4 lanparty sli
XFX 7800GT @ 1280x1024
running off a partition on 2x 80GB sata2 in RAID0

Silky smooth. Never a hiccup. high FPS, even with high detail, AA. GTR2 is not graphically demanding. could be memory or drivers
