I bought the pre-release pack on Steam to try out Team Fortress 2 and can't stop playing it. Never having played the original, it is easily the best new multiplayer game I've played in 5+ years.

The style and graphics are stellar, but it's the simple yet incredibly varied gameplay that makes it a ton of fun. I've tried 7 of the 9 classes in the four hours I've put in and can't wait to play more. Only Counter Strike and RtCW:ET have hooked me so fast in the FPS genre.

Wow... it has instantly shot to the top of my personal list for Game of the Year consideration, console or PC. Who else is playing this "beta"? It feels like a final release to me!

I have been checking out the commentary tracks. Game looks good, but I don't know if it's enough to play a fps online. I have never been big on multiplayer first person shooters. I wish there was a single player game based on the same concept. I like the look and feel of it.

Right now I go to random west coast servers and play as I learn the mechanics. One server I have in my Favorites gave me a 7 ping average last night... you can't ask for much better than that!

I like this game so much that I may eventually look for a steady group to join once I'm ready for advanced tactics. For now, I'll just jump in and out of whichever one catches my eye.

loving the game too, played for 3 hours straight last night as sniper, which got nerfed pretty hard compared to before. the maps seem to be more cramped compared to the old versions which is another knock against those who play snipers.

What professions are you guys playing?

So far I'm liking the Soldier a lot. He is so basic that it is easy to switch from offense to defense depending on the needs of the team. I may start off rounds by teaming up with an Engineer to guard the suitcase in the 2Fort bunker room where we are often tough to beat. Once the team has a lead, I'll go offensive with either the group rushing the enemy base by providing splash damage support, or by rocket jumping to the upper battlements to help clear the top floor.

I tested the Medic for the first time and thought it was interesting... need to play it more for an opinion. Pyro sucks. Sniper is fun. Next up I'll put some time into the Scout.

This game is FUN. I'm not too good at it but I'm enjoying it BIGTIME. Look for Cysquatch running around with a blowtorch or a knife.

The best is when you get gibbed and you see a target around a random body part and it says "this is your liver". ROFL

I was watching my son play a scout. They are insane. Super fast and change directions mid-air via a double jump.

I love this game! It's been so long since I played a Multiplayer PC shooter. I got my ass handed to me for the first half-hour or so but the skills are coming back! So far the Scout and Soldier have drawn most of my attention.

Oh, and stealing the enemy's intelligence with a slow ass soldier has been the highlight of the game for me so far.

OK, any idea why nobody can hear my mic? Teamspeak works fine but I have that turned off, and when I hit V a graphic shows that I look like I'm talking but none of my teammates can hear me and I hear THEM talking...

I'd ask this on the steam forums but I cant use their stupid ass anti spammer blocker cause I'm color blind and cant read the goddamn letters of 99% of the choices and the other 1% keep telling me I'm not matching up when I DO put it in right.

they seem even smaller than TFC, which really sucks for snipers, my primary class. they also seem to have added a lot more objects in the maps so snipers views are really narrowed to a certain areas.

an example would be the roof on fort2's bridge. now if i'm perched on the top, i can't hit ppl running through the bridge i also can only cover one of the two bottom exits and the entire top area. if i stay below, i can cover the entire bottom one one side of the top and also hit ppl trying to cross the bridge. although that's also made harder because i sometimes would hit the pillars holding the roof over the bridge.

one thing i really do not like about the game right now is spy's cloaking.

Sorry Kadath, I haven't checked the mic yet.

jkcheng, Snipers are definitely useful in TF2, including 2Fort. The very area you describe I've been picked off by Snipers as I try to run across the bridge because of the gaps in the roof. Just as I was about to exit the bridge and go into the enemy base as a Soldier... boom! headshot. The camera showed me the sniper on the roof had tagged me.

It may be tougher than before for the veterans out there, but Sniping works.

Based on the good reviews here, I finally broke down and picked it up as part of the "Source Premier" pack. I've never played HL/HL2 or Counter Strike, so I figured this would be a good excuse to pick them up as well. Portal looks like it could be interesting as well. Not a bad price for so many games.

I really like TF2, although I'm not very good. I'm used to the slower pace of the Battlefield series, and I'm having to re-learn how to play at the quicker pace.

I've tried out most of the classes, but haven't picked a favorite yet.

I think I like the spy the best. (for offense and defense)

Being sneaky-like and cloaking until you're behind all of the enemies and then decloaking to knife all of their heavies is fun.

The Scout is now my favorite class to use. Zipping in and out of skirmishes at top speed, 2x leaping to special areas as you dart towards the intel and back out again is a lot of fun.

I can even take down enemy opponents 1v1 when I play smart despite the pitiful hit points. It's just so easy to move around, on the ground and in the air, that your Scattergun hits a lot of opponents a lot easier than their shotguns can hit you (I don't battle Heavy Weapon Guys though).

Next up I want to try some Spy action to see how that class feels. I already have some theory tactics in mind to help deal with enemy defenses using this profession, but I don't know if they'll work.
