PC Gamer gave Crysis a 98% in a 7 page detailed review.

It looks like this one will not disappoint and may very well live up to the hype.

It's good they released a SP beta before the game came out so we have a level of expectation as to how forward-thinking the game engine is. Because of this, I'm not going to spend the first couple hours distracted with messing in the options menu, trying to find the optimal settings for my rig.

Crysis, COD4, Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect... all in the same month??? I think I need to quit my job to play all these games. But without a job, how will I be able to afford them...?

Sub-1080p/60fps is not next-gen.

PC Gamer's Billy Harms loved the hell out of Far Cry, but I counted myself among those who didn't think it was all that. And while Chuck knows his stuff, that 98% score seems a bit over-passionate, based on my time with the demo.

Based on the demo, I expect this will be the typical reaction...if you liked Far Cry you'll like Crysis and if you didn't like Far Cry, it's likely that you won't like Crysis. Personally, Crysis seems to have the elements that I enjoyed in Far Cry and taken it up a notch by adding more variability in the gameplay with the powersuit and increased the wow factor with updated graphics.

98%!!!

Wow that's amazing. To me the jungles did not look THAT much better than something like Battlefield Vietnam. When I hit to put a couple extra bullets in a corpse there was no blood, no physics like the body re-acting to those bullets. While the trees were destructable, other things were not at all.

Nothing new here.... move along...

98%? We'll see...I wonder if they got caught up in the excitement...

I have some faith though. I thought Far Cry was fantastic. It's relatively old now so the potential to surpass it on all levels is evident...

Unfortunately the demo refused to run on my PC.

You have to be kidding. What settings did you run it on?

1280x720 everything on high on a 8800GTX.

Yes you can tell technically the jungle, leafs, etc were much more intricate, and would move around and stuff... and the shadows were very nice. But overall one of the biggest factors in a game for me is.... is this environment a place I want to be in? And to me the jungles of Battlefield Vietnam had character and were appealing. The jungles in Crysis seemed artificial and bland to me. Don't know why.

Take away the graphics and the game isn't all that advanced. The AI still stands there and lets you shoot them. They should have just called the game Farcry 2.0.

I would kill someone for Far Cry 2.0.

As others have said, according to the reviews if you do not like Far Cry then you will not like Crysis. This is good news for me as Far Cry was one of my favorite shooters of all time.

I will have to wait to play the game before I pass judgment on if the game offers anything new. Innovation is great, but a game does not have to be radically new to be good.

But, it looks like they nailed the gameplay so I can't wait to try it out myself.

I love the Crysis Demo so far. Question though..

Toms Hardware was able to download a hacked version of the demo and get into extra levels with extra vehicles such as tanks, helicopters, larger boats, etc.. Does anyone know where to get this or how to unlock?

There is some info at rockpapershotgun.com.
Also download maps here:http://crysis.dracoblue.net/tpmod.html;dl
It's the larger dl. One of the others is some screenshots, tips etc.
You download the map and extract it (with Winrar) to the "Levels" folder in the "Game" folder.
Then rename "island" folder to something else.
Rename your Frozen Island map to "island"
Read the other dl's first after they are extracted.
Also any map you make with the Sandbox Editor is stored in the "Levels" folder so you just rename it to "island" and you can play your own map.
Hope my memory is correct so read up first. http://www.crysis-maps.com/news.php

Are you playing on Delta difficulty setting? I thought the AI did a great job. It is much better than Far Cry with the Project X mod (which made the AI go prone when shot at).

That name is already taken by Far Cry 2. I am actually looking forward to Far Cry 2 more than Crysis because I don't like the science fiction aspect of Crysis. Far Cry 2 will be set in Africa and encompass 50 sq. km of jungle, desert, and savannah.

On Delta mode you have to whisper a little lower before the fall asleep.
The helicopter is controlled by mouse only.hard to get used to at first but feels loike console game.

I'm not seeing the problem... they are releasing the game two days early.

After 6 months you have to PAY to download a game you already own. Unlike Steam where it is FREE!

oh... ok, I agree -- the Steam model of unlimited downloads is better (as long as Steam stays in business). All things being equal, I would rather own the disk.

But still, it's not like the game is unplayable after 6 month... you just can't delete it and re-download it.

And just when I'm ready to start giving EA another chance (and some more of my money)... they remind me why I stay far, far away from their products.

It works perfectly with the xbox360 controller. You must have the controller connected before you start the game though.

That's crap, total crap. I will buy the disk in the case of Crysis.

However, I would buy it from a Steam-like service over the retail disk. More and more games are being released via Steam. If anything, that service is gaining momentum. Bioshock & CoD 4 are both available on Steam. It is IMO the best digital distribution system out there.

HeadRusch, I have a few questions. Is the screen grab you posted from Crysis one you took yourself? I have delayed doing a rebuild for a year just because of this game. Would you mind sharing your system specs?

Right, just google Crysis Screenshots and you'll find plenty.

PS: That shot above appears to have significant AA turned on, and also to be running the DX10 codebase since the DX9 motion blur doesn't look that good.

Ah, yes. I had to scroll sideways to see that

I have been cruising through some of the recent builds getting some ideas. One of the big questions for me is whether to go with Vista or not. I have found that it is possible to activate the Very High settings in DX9 (according to some other posts here).

You'll get a lot of people telling you to stay away from Vista, and so far all my DX10 testing has been frustrating and disappointing. But with that said, it's pretty easy playing the DX9 version of games on Vista without much, if any, performance hit versus XP, so....

I had hopes for Vista, but lately... I dunno. MS needs to do something to push this OS forward.
