Hey I am an HTPC gamer. Playing on my 65" 1080p Toshiba RP on my couch is awsome. But I always get asked how i got rid of overscan and got perfect resolution. Those of us who have done it know it take quite a bit of fiddling to get a good resolution so let start a list of HDTVs and what custom resolution you need to run to have a (as close to as possible) perfect picture
Note you must set you drivers to NOT SCALE THE IMAGE. You want centered output. For nvidia Cards you it's in the Flat Panel Scaling section
Nvidia 8 series cards do NOT currently support custom resolutions or powerstrip (hence why i picked up a used 7900gtx instead!)
And for 7 series cards the newer drivers screw it all up (100.00 +) I use 93.71drivers
So until manufactioners realize that all 1080p TVs should honestly be able to disply a full 1920x1080 image without overscan lets get a list goign of customs and if you have a model that can display a full 1080p signal with no overscan PLEASE LIST IT!!
So heres my TVs and the Resolutions I use:
Toshiba 65" 65HM167 RP(rear projection)= 1824x1016 60hz
Westinghouse 42" 1080p LCD = 1920x1080 60hz
