Transporter 3 and a few others. They're all Lionsgate.

Thank you all!

Not sure if your 4806 accepts 7.1 PCM over HDMI but it's worth a try. Make sure your 3800 player has HDMI Audio (PCM) selected and that you haven't chosen BD Audio Mix. Your 4806 will be receiving a decoded 7.1 PCM signal sent from the player.

If your 4806 doesn't accept 7.1 PCM over HDMI, then you will have to run 4 pairs of RCA audio cables from the player's rear analog outputs and connect to your receiver's audio inputs. Make sure 7.1 Channel Audio Out - Multi Channel is selected.

It would be nice if option 1 works but option 2 should be ok as well but will require further tweaking to calibrate speaker distance, delay, etc.

Thank you EWL5! That first option worked for me as I'm seeing PCM 7.1 on the left side of the disply on the 4806ci via HDMI. Yes!

I'm quite excited about my new setup even though both pieces appeared on the market about 4 years ago or so but they look and sound awesome!

I'm using the 3800BDCI strictly for Blu-Ray and a 5910CI for 2 channel CD, SACD's and DVD-A disks.

My total investment for all three pieces was in the $1,300 range. My sources for the purchases was Audiogon.com, Videogon.com and eBay. All three items were in pristine condition. With the right timing you can get some great bargains in audio.

Before my purchases, I was using an Emotiva DMR-1, Denon 3910 and Oppo BDP-83.

You will find the 3800 to be quite a bit slower than the Oppo BDP83 (I own both).

Yeah, it is slow but patience has its virtues! I think this is a good upgrade considering what I paid for the 3800.

The PS3 came out over a year before the 3800 and the Oppo a couple months later. While it's true most BD players were slow 3 years ago, anyone just getting their hands on it now should consider it slow.

It is slow... next to my OPPO BDP-83.

I know this question has been asked before, but this link

does not allow anything but the two preset items in the model window. Did Denon take down the firmware of 3800bdci since it is discontinued? Mine is doing well until today when I watched Beauty and the beast (2d blueray), it froze every 25 minutes. Can some one show me how to get the firmware update ?

Thanks.

No audio issue that I could hear. I was in LPCM mode. Episode 2 did have two spots where I definitely seen pixelation. Another 3800 owner also noticed one spot with pixelation in episode 2 (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...0#post21020610).

Especially disk 2. I did return my first set of complete disks for a new set and they appear better but they are still there.

Disk two. Same deal. I haven't seen it again with my new set of discs. Wonder if they went to market with some weak disc manufacturing.

I have compared my 3800bdci/141fd kuro combo to my 5910ci/141fd kuro combo and notice that the blacks are better on the 5910ci/ kuro combo? Are there any settings for the 3800bdci other than contrast which I have set to -1 that could improve the black level like for example rgb setting or something that may not be set right on this player? The kuro was calibrated for each player on separate inputs but I have never had anyone calibrate or mess with the settings of the 3800bdci.

Did you check the ire setting to ensure that it is set to 0? I have a 111pro-fd and I use the ire0 setting instead of the ire7 (or whatever the other one is).

I'm in-process reconfiguring my system. Have multiple players, including DVD-3800BDCI, Pioneer BDP-05FD, and others. Continuing to use my Pioneer PDP-4280HD 42in Kuro plasma display. Will add a new Panasonic PT-AR100 projector (probably 80in - 120in wide screen); add new Oppo BDP-95 and Sony SCD-XA5000ES players. Also switching from NAD T175 surround processor to new Marantz AV7005 processor.

Now I'm contemplating which player to retain for this new configuration- the Pioneer BDP-05FD? or the Denon DVD-3800BDCI?

I like having backup BD player in my system. Also both players yield excellent 2ch analog OUT. Just trying to figure which player would be best to keep?

I personally have had no reason to upgrade from my 3800bdci to one of the new oppos- I know the 3800 is slow to load but other than that I don't think there would be any significant improvement in pq or aq. I did hear that the high end pioneer players tend to compliment the kuros really well though.

Thanks but I do have the ire set to 0- when I first got the player it was set to 7 and it freaked me out how washed out it was but luckily I had this thread to inform me to set it to 0- also I've heard to set the contrast to -1 but other than that I wish I had the knowledge to further tweak the player.

Just wondering if anyone has both of these players and if so have they done a pq comparison with bd and dvd upscaling? still trying to decide if upgrading from the 3800 to the bdp 95 would be worthwhile?

Do you have a need for the other formats or streaming? If not stick with the 3800.

I just bought a used Denon DVD-3800BDCI.
In getting set up I have had a couple of issues.
I started with a DVD disk and found the following.
When I use the optical output to my receiver I am only receiving 2.1 output.
I went thru the settings I learned that changing the HDMI output to off would allow the optical output to operate.
The 7.1 is also giving the same output. When I set the HDMI to multichannel instead of mute and run the HDMI thru my TV I do get true multichannel audio sound.

Background is my receiver is pre HDMI and does not have the HD audio settings so I want to utilize the surround setting and the superior D/A converters in the player.

I am sure that it is a setting issue, however I have not found my issue yet.

Any ideas??

thx,
Terry Mc

Well I got the surround to come up.
I played with all the settings today and finally had adjustments on the speaker size and delays available to me. Not sure what I changed but they were greyed out before.
All I can say is Wow! I am currently listening to an old Al DiMeola DVD and the audio is set to 7.1 output to my Boston AVR7120 sound quality is substantially better than my old DVD-2910 just as expected. Picture quality is fantastic as well.
Looks like I need to pick up a blu ray for my Friday night entertainment!!!!

Does anyone know if the the 2500btci shares the drive blu ray transport as the Marantz BD8002 and denon 3800bdci? My blu drive is failing and have a line on a cheap 2500btci and want to use the blu ray transport to replace the ailing one in my BD8002.

Its a shame Denon's still suffer this fate. I had a 3910 that needed 2 optic drive units replaced and I just sent in my 2010 that is exhibiting the same symptoms. All of them have been right around the 1 year mark. I dont think I will be paying more than 150 for any player again.

I must say that Denon is probably the poster child for optical failure. I'm also done with high priced players.

Hi folks

I have just ordered an Onkyo DB SP809 a member tells me it is common knowledge that it is the same as the Denon 3800 does any one have experiance of this please.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1#post21771151

Its mentioned that the unit shares Funai here
http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/t...370&sequence=1

However it stops at the BD SP808 so far i could see.

Looking at some of your posts the issues are mainly optical failures? Would many of you still buy Denon players then?

Hope you don't mind me dropping in, any help would be great

Thank you

Allan

No one mentioned 809 is as "same" as 3800, but they are both Funai-made players.

809 is closer to 2010CI in terms of design similarities.

If you look at the spec and pictures carefully, you would find out that 808 and 809 are very similar. 809 does have one extra HDMI output and 3D-support out of the box.
