I'm in similar position, had the 1500 for a couple of months, played about 10 BR movies with no issues but not any of the movies that have plagued others. Thinking I may have to get Rambo out.

As for the person who thinks that we are inventing these problems, my DVR and receiver get warm, but the 1500 was literally hot enough to fry an egg.

The skin will burn on contact at ~80degrees C. If you could hold your finger there for a second, the temp was less then this. There are also temp limits (70C i think) on any surface that a user can touch to get UL safety approval. I have'nt taken mine apart yet (pointers to opened units welcome!), but if the chip is heatsunk directly to the chassis bottom, the chip may be well within it's operating limits (could be as high as 100C case). Samsung would be foolish to risk a deluge of warrantee returns for a 25 cent heat sink.

While I have had no 'major' problems with my unit, I've had enough nagging little ones that I remember now why I usually don't go bleeding edge. Tried watching Bonus View on "Vantage Point", it got all hosed up. And WTF am I missing, even the $30 DVD players I have will resume from where you hit stop, why does'nt this 400 BRD player do this? Since I still do not have a true HD source, I joke with people who come over that for the $800 I spent (new AV receiver at the same time), I can get flyover menues and buggy firmware. Truth be told, even on my old X1 pj, the picture is noticably better then a standard DVD.

Now my advice on your 7 month old is just keep her away from the AV cabinet. I doubt she will get a burn from the BRD player, but it could cost you a fortune in repairs

I am still very happy with my 1500, Honestly I was waiting for the s350 but took 1500 instead before the sony released and I did not regret my decision. So far the only problem I had is when playing spidey 2.1 and it is not a big deal because I dont want to watch that movie every single day or week anyway.

I am on the unlimited, one at a time plan and I am Legend was on the way back yesterday and I committed the Mortal Sin of stopping @ Blockbuster for 21 as I now await Dewey Cox. By the way, 21 is BD-live active. I didn't have an icon popup issue. On the disc menu when you select BD-live, I get the previously mentioned message that "your player is not BD-Live active or ready or something to that effect.

Hi, sorry if someone has discussed this before, but I couldn't find any posts.

I just got my BD-P1500, and having had all my previous players turned region free, I didn't think about the fact that I have DVDs from several regions. Is there any way to make the BD-P1500 region free?

Does anyone have any problem playing Underworld:Evolution from Netflix? This one can't even load on my 1500. I tried to play other BDs and they played fine. I couldn't find any thing bad about this disc on this thread. Could it be just this particular one that is bad?

When I returned mine I didn't have an issue with the gift card. I was able to keep it. I lost $2 on the player because of tax difference in the town where I purchased it and the town where I returned it.

When I first bought the player I thought it was a keeper. Loaded fast, played everything and was at a good price ($348) with a free $100 gift card and 90 return from Wally World. About the 3rd day using it extensively (a 3 movie session) the player started to audio drop on AVP: Requim and Spider-Man 2.1 bitstreamed. Touched the player and it was hot. Removed the disc and I couldn't even hold it because it was hot. Bought the Antec laptop cooler like rwestley had mentioned. Tried that out and player was cool to the touch but still having drops in Spider-Man 2.1. Exchanged player and still had the same problem. Like I said before I don't watch Spider-Man 2.1 because I love it but because I could repeat the drop at the same spot all of the time. I tried it in my PS3 and it played perfect. Tried new HDMI cable, new receiver, different Spider-Man disc with the Sammy and still had the same problem. Bought the Sony 350 and it played Spider-Man 2.1 with no drops. I tried different combinations of cables, receivers, players and disc and it played everytime in the Sony and dropped audio in the Sammy. The 350 became a keeper and the Samsung was returned. Like I previously stated, the Sony might have quirks somewhere down the line or the yellow push some are experiencing but for me, mine has none of the problems so far so it is the best player for me currently. If it does and I'm within my return window, guess what back to the store for a return.

My 1500 plug into an Onkyo 875 itself plug to my 1080p 24p Philips LCD.

When I puts the 24p mode on I have no picture and no sound and when I change for 60p it works fine !!!

I try the same with my HD-DVD player no problem with the 24p mode.

So I figure out that the problem is with the 24p mode of the 1500.

Is someone got the same problem ?

First off, your TV has to be able to support 24fps mode. With slightly older Samsungs, we had to upgrade the firmware. Indeed, I recently updated the firmware on the BD-P1500 blu-ray player as well (downloaded from Samsung's site). It cured many evils. As I'm not familiar with your Philips TV, you may want to confirm that it can handle 24fps as well. One kink in the chain might be your Onkyo receiver which may be doing lord knows what. Have you tried connecting the HDMI cable directly to the TV and seeing if 24fps works?

How do yo get the bonusview icon in the upper right hand corner off the screen? I am watching Doomsday and no matter how many buttons I push it won't come off. Nothing in the manual either.

We have one report of Game Plan (hopefully someone else can chime in on this title).

So we have three recent Disney releases with reported problems. Could the problem really trace back to the House of Mouse and how they are encoding their movies? They did screw up the framing on Pirates after all...

I've always reported these problems to my receiver and player manufacturer, but maybe they need to be reported to the studios too.

Just watched The Game Plan rented from Netflix and had a bunch of brief audio/video dropouts/skips. Apparently this is another disc that the 1500 has issues with. It reminded me a lot of what I experience with Ratatouille. Other than those I really haven't had problems with other discs - HD or SD.

Maybe if you pay $600 for a player next time you'll get no audio drop-outs.

The September issue of Home Theater Magazine has a lot of good things to say about the 1500.

I'm still have not suffered any kind of audio issues.

Only issue I have experienced was the Bonus View message displaying permanetly (Nim's Island) for which I had to disable on-screen messages. Hopefully they will fix that with an update.

^^

Exactly I'll be willing to pay $500 up-wards for a full spec, final profile stable BR player.

So far that does not exist.

For me, I got the 1500 for under $300.....its playing HD media better than my HD-A3 ever did (and yes I wanted HD-DVD to win for its more consumer friendly features).

So when such a player exist I'll upgrade and this player will be relegated to the family room or bedroom.....for now I'm just enjoying it.

I guess I got lucky. I paid less than $350 from my Sony S350 with a online coupon at BB and haven't experienced a single audio or video problem after watching several of the movies that gave my returned 1500 big problems.

I'm not snobbish and uninformed.

No yellow push with mine. Is that the only thing preventing you from purchasing this player? Its not like if you get the player and if it has a problem, you wouldn't be able to return it. There isn't a single piece of equipment out there that couldn't potentially have a problem after you get it home. Thats why you keep the receipt.

That's evidenced by some of the posts in this thread. I have no yellow push either. I really liked the 1500 but the lip sync issue I was having was unbearable.

just won a supposedly new sealed one on ebay for $297 with free shipping. Should be here in a couple days, just in time for Sarah Conner Chronicles BD release. Woo Hoo.

Not too worried about the heat issue. If I can deal with a 360 and keep it from overheating for 14 months now this thing will be cake.

So is anyone else freaking out over Netflix? I got an email this morning and there's a story on CNN.

To me, it's no big deal lol, they've been great the short time I've been with them.

Netflix ftw, we all encounter small hiccups.
