That is good news. As I'm sure you will be one of the first to get this awesome player, I can't wait to read your review.

As to my question about bass management over analog outs, I'm pretty sure it will, as my 5910 does, but it would be nice to have it confirmed.

As I intend to use the on board decoding exclusively, this is crucial to my plans.

I'm also assuming if I use the onboard decoding it will send the lossless True HD and HDMA over the analog outs.

sure looking like a cracker of a player ! trust CAV to surface some juicy details there !

I'm still not 100% sure how the DL4 is goign to operate for hdaudio. the business of compatiblity for other hdmi CEC protocol is encouraging. though proof is in the pudding I guess with this kind of stuff and we wont likely know till people startign messign around with all this stuff !

Thanks, blownaway.

The good news for me is I only have to replace one component, my 5910, with the A1UDCI to be able to play all my current formats and not have to worry about having to replace or add to my Arcam pre/pro just yet.

And, of course, finally have a Blu-ray player.

I can confirm that it will have a full suite of BM for the analog outputs.

Thanks Kal--I'm psyched.

Though it may be awhile before I can afford this beast.

Have you had a chance to play with one?

(BTW, I finally got my Stereophile and read your review of the Halo P7. Sounds like a very nice unit. My long range plan is to pair that with this Denon player.)

Question, looking at the back of this player vs the back of the 3800, obviously the 2ch balanced outputs take the place of the seperate L R ch's on the back of the 3800....my question is, if i JUST want GOOD CD sound, will the FL, FR (from the 7ch) be the same or better than the seperate 2 ch outputs on the 3800?

I dont have an amp with balanced inputs so i would be forced to use the fronts from the 7ch analog where as the 3800 it has it's own seperate dedicated L/R AND 7ch...

and can someone also help explain the benefit of the following..
having dual hdmi out's, full audio/video (i get that...two systems going at the same time) what i don't get is having one dedicated for just audio, and one for just video? How would that work? In what scenario would you use this and how? Thanks guys.

Video from one hdmi port to video processor/display,audio from second port to processor/avr.

The A1 will have superior audio performance via its analogue outs due to many factors, not least of which are a bespoke drive mech & super dac's.

I must remember to buy my lottery ticket tonight

Cool. If you remember our earlier exchange, I've decided to keep the Arcam pre-pro for now, and use it in addition to the P7 for AM/FM duties and optical input for my Dish DVR.

Well that sucks. As cool as this player is, I'm gonna have to sit this one out. I was on the fence at $3800, this pushed me over. I have other places to put my HT $$$.

This TOTALLY sucks!! At $3800 it was a definite for me, now I'm not so sure. Why the heck would Denon put the player on their website showing a $3800 msrp only to then increase it to $4200??? Even their press release states a $3800 price tag. This could very well lose a lot of sales for them. I must say that I'm very disappointed.

If it makes you all feel any better, a 10% dealer discount off MSRP would bring you to $3,780.

However, if you had already factored in a discount, then you are screwed.

In the interest of full disclosure, I purchased a "robust" Denon DVD-3800 BDCI, and had to send it back to Denon for a 24p fix within the first couple of weeks. Denon did not broadcast the fix...you had to call them and ask for the return authorization.

Then, after a few months, the blue laser failed. The replacement laser assembly is "the same part" according to the Electronics Technician at the Denon-authorized service center.

With my luck, the new laser will fail just after the warranty has expired; but I remain hopeful. The 3800 has been working great since the laser failure, outside of one annoying EDID quirk.

The experience above is a big reason why I am not considering this player, not to mention the cost. I sincerely hope you will be the beneficiary of the field alpha-testing regimen of the 3800. Likewise, I hope to be the beneficiary of the field beta-testing regimen for the A1 UDCI.

For me, I am hoping for the third generation Denon Blu-ray player to have DL4, be much less expensive, more reliable, and faster.

I also have a Denon AVP-A1 HDCI, and love it!

Hmmm...interesting experience...thanx for sharing that...I'm hoping that the eth0 will make updates a non-issue...and hopefully everything else will hold up...I also too have the AVP-A1...love that so far as well...before that, I was still using my reliable old AVR-5800 receiver, which has been rock-solid for years...hoping the AVP & UD will be as well...

Perhaps Denon is watching this thread and is setting their MSRP based on how many people look interested.

In the spirit of that thought - I am in no way interested in this thing.

Perhaps the new $4200 MSRP reflects all the business they anticipate losing to Oppo's universal player? You gotta make up for all the value-oriented enthusiasts who are hanging out in the Oppo thread.

Pioneer broke my heart.
Denon broke my wallet.
Oppo broke my thinking.

Looks like I'll be moving over to the Oppo side as well, since a U.S. list of $4200 almost certainly means it will hit close to $5000 in Canada....

Too bad, as my 5300 is just crying out to match up with this player.

well, if it makes anyone feel any better, that msrp for the u.s. market still outshines the msrp here in japan; if the u.s. price was based on today's exchange rate, the machine would be running over 6,000 dollars (msrp in japan is 546,000 yen). shucks, why not buy two and send one over here for me to sell for you at a profit?

And to make you feel better, we get ours from Japan our Denon gear in Australia and with the current conversion rate we pay $9,259.49 AUD.But then there is the taxes and the distrubutors profit on top which could take the player to $12,999 AU

Big No no for me unfortunatley.
