By now, hasn't there at least been a beta release of this player that can be commented on? Denon doesn't exactly have a solid reputation for its initial releases.

jomark911, you're missing the point. dr.pat is saying it's more expensive in Europe. To the tune of $1500 USD more expensive!

Well I know I'm really jazzed about getting mine. As you mentioned, yes it is going to be expensive, but at this price point we expect everything that Denon is including in this player. I mean when this machine was just an idea, Jeff Talmadge asked us what it was we would like to see in this player. I think for the most part Denon delivered on what we wanted.
  • Profile 2.0
  • Firmware update via internet
  • A true Universal player (Blu-ray, SACD, DVD-A, DVD, CD)
  • User friendly GUI
  • Solid construction with a high grade transport
  • Balanced configuration for 2 channel with XLR outs
  • Hi End audiophile grade DAC's
  • Backlit remote
  • DenonLink

These are to name just a few, and Denon has given us even more. While this player has not yet been released, I have a very good feeling that this is going to set the standard.

I called Denon customer support yesterday and spoke with a gentleman by the name of Michael regarding the latest update for my 3800 bd player. I also asked him when this new player would be shipping. He said that it would be shipping by the end of this month here in the US.

So they should currently be on a ship somewhere in the Pacific by now considering it's the 27th

Cool, finally a glimpse into some of the specs of the 3800 replacement (I'm assuming).

So one noticeable difference between this and the A1 is it has AL 24 and not AL32. No mention of the video chips used. I wonder if they will go with ABT or still use the Realta. My guess is tha DAC's will be Burr Brown. It better not output SACD over HDMI at 24/88 or 24/96

Thanks for the post.

No post processor. I don't consider this a 3800 replacement as the other upcoming Denon with ABT VRS is more of a contender. The player in question is probably using UniPhier or some other SOC. Denon doesn't give you SACD and DVD-A for a price that is less than the 3800's starting MSRP. The cost cut was in the post processor.

Pioneer broke my heart.
Denon broke my wallet.
Oppo broke my thinking.

Another player you say... Man, Denon is really rolling out the BluRay players this year. Bring'em on. With all of these players I just hope they don't forget to actually ship the A1

DBP-1610CI ($499; shipping in July) - Same as above sans Anchor Bay chip and RS-232c

Closest to a 3800 replacement would be the 2010 but it only has Burr Brown DAC's for the dedicated stereo out and doesn't appear to have any AL24 upsampling.

Yes, the Denon player with ABT VRS is the DBP-2010CI . Looks like Denon finally has something for everyone.

Ian_S is usually very reliable. The 2010 looks like it will clash with the Oppo. I'm actually considering waiting for a heavily discounted 3800BD now as I really want 7.1 Analogue and RS232 and a recent rack expansion means I can keep my Pioneer ILink Player for SACD/DVD-A.

It's come from UK dealers, hence the UK pounds pricing, that over in the UK at least, is a suggested retail higher than the current 3800BD.

Two different Denon dealers have both confirmed the info, so I hope it's correct, it's a player I'm definitely interested in too.

(Thanks Krobar )

Really, you are considering the 2010 to be the replacement of the 3800? There appears to be way too big of a price gap between it and the 3800 for it to be a replacement, no? The new player coming in the fall would seem more in line, at least as far as pricing goes.

The new flagship A1UDCI will replace the previous 3800 flagship but offer SACD/DVD-A functionality as well as ProLogicIIx support.

Here's an executive summary of the upcoming offerings:

1) A1UDCI - videophile/audiophile player with Realta processor, AL32, SACD/DVD-A, jitter reduction over HDMI (requires DenonLink4), ProLogicIIx support, and CIH support, $4500 MSRP
2) 4010 - audiophile player with AL24, SACD/DVD-A, jitter reduction over HDMI (requires DenonLink), ABT2010, ~ $1800-1900
3) 2010 - videophile player with ABT1030, Burr Brown DAC's only for stereo analog outs, no mention of AL24, $699
4) 1610 - budget player, same as 2010 except no ABT VRS, $499

Pioneer broke my heart.
Denon broke my wallet.
Oppo broke my thinking.

The first real 3800 replacement will probably be called the 3010.

Do you think we will see a 3010 this year, maybe announced at CEDIA?

I expect the refresh to come late this year or early next year. That way, the 3800 will have enjoyed 2 years shelf life. It's not the type of player that many are after now anyways. I think Denon has done the correct thing in branching out the features to different players. If you want the feature set of the 3800, you can get the 3800 for < $1500 in most places anyway.

Pioneer broke my heart.
Denon broke my wallet.
