Wow, that's right around the corner! Too cool! Congrats!

I'm really looking forward to your impressions. Hopefully soon after I will have mine also. I did not do a pre-order, so I will only be able to get mine if one is available. If not it'll be from the next batch. But that's fine, as I've waited this long, what's another month right?

If someone wanted to have one player that does exactly what both the 5910ci and the 3800bdci do, then this new Denon Statement player would be a pretty good deal! The 5910ci sold for $3800 by itself a couple of years ago while the 3800bdci sold for $2000.00 ! However, now you could possible get the 5910ci and the 3800bdci (used of course) for less than buying the new Denon Player and maybe come out ahead on sound quality from build quality! you can't beat the build quality of the 5910ci for sure!

I already have the 5910, but I only have one set of mch inputs on my pre-pro, and no hdmi audio. Which is exactly how I want it, however it means I need a one box solution if I want to add bluray.

I had the same problem as you i got a zektor multichannel 7.1 audio switch now i have two hd dvd players, my denon 3800 and my panasonic multi region blue ray player connected to my sony es 5000 receiver, also with no hdmi switch. It is an amazing solution for about $500. I even have room on the switch for the new A-1 denon player i am considering getting . Thank god for switches. I even have an hdmi switch for my video with 6 inputs for my Mitsubishi set.

I have the Integra 10.5 universal player, while probably not the same build quality as the 5910, I love how this player sounds for sacd and dvd-a.

By the time I bought the switcher and a BD3800, I'd be in nearly as deep as if I sold my 5910 and bought the A1--a solution that uses 2 less boxes.

Hey-
I have noticed others saying this new Denon has a Vertical Stretch feature for video! Would this feature work with Rear Projection/ Flat Panel Displays or is it just useful for front projection systems? I would love to have a solution for converting letterbox to full screen with no pq loss on my rp and fp displays!

"a Vertical Stretch feature that eliminates the black bars at the top and bottom of a 2.35:1 image without adding distortion, or artifacts, for HD displays (most beneficial for those users of Cinema Scope screens and projectors with anamorphoric lenses, as the processing is done in the digital domain). Basically, this is, without a doubt, the most advanced, feature packed, and powerful Blu-ray player to ever hit the market."

"It is unlikely that anyone will make a better transport in the foreseeable future (at least, not until they come out with a new format)."

My dealer said they have some in stock, but wasn't sure--they are moving and a little disorganized.

Also said the first 5 shipments are sold, so I didn't press it.

So,
Is is safe to say that someone using this player with a 2009 Plasma Display will not be able to benefit from this Vertical Stretch feature? I guess I am currently under the impression that in addition to this new player with this new feature, you also must have a front projector that is equipped with an anamorphic lens.

ditto on my 5910 and sony bdp 5000--the zekky 7.1 works very very well with no loss of sq--it would also take over as a video switcher if it had 2 hdmi outs...dont let this issue stand in your way of getting the new denon ( i am dying to hear how it compares with the 5910)

I'm stunned, why is there S-Video on this highest end BD player? I can see why having maybe composite video out just in case u have hdmi handshake issue's with your display to set it up & would'nt component be just as reliable? I don't see anyone in the whole wide universe using s video, it is down right sickening, super oxy, what a disgrace.

I can't say myself. But it would be nice to have the capability to stretch a widescreen image (with black bars) to fit my Kuro display, cleanly

probably only for secondary output to a second sysem or equipment room monitoring monitor (very helpful for navigating dvd-a menus)--if this is your pirmary output to your display you probably need to check into your local psychiatric hospital,,,

I guess the svideo is to record to a dvd burner, because s video does 480 lines of resolution wheras composite does not , i use a dish receiver and use the s video out to record pristine dvd's on my panasonic dvd burner. Until we have blue ray recorders, this is the only way for now. Just a guess

I am also curious about this. It does sound like you need to have a front projector with an anamorphic lens for this to work. I wonder also how this might work with my Pioneer 2009 plasma?

The image will be stretched. Some people don't mind it though.

We need a Transport Only version of this. Must of us do not need the analog stage.

Waiting to see boot/loading times for Blu-Ray discs on the Denon as opposed to the Oppo (which shows standalones can be fast).

There are still quite a few audiophiles that will appreciate the analog stage of this unit.

Agreed, and agreed. While I would get the analog version, I think Denon is dropping the ball not having a transport for the AVP (and similar) owners.
