Thanks for the help with this chart.

Does anyone have any updated info on the Sharp BD-HP21U?

There is a great price ($179.99) as an early BF Sears deal today and just would like to know the Audio specs for this player. Is it comparable to the Sony 350?

Thanks in advance!!!

Tony, Please make sure to put a link to the living document at Google Docs. No offense, but you don't get around to updating that chart enough. With the link to Google Docs a lot more frequently updated chart will be available.

It would only take you 30 seconds to add a sentence and a link at the top of the first post. That sentence could say for latest updates go here: (google docs link).

I wish the google docs chart was sorted fist by availability (shipping, announced, discontinued) and then by manufactures name/model.

WhatHappend ...

Given that the GoogleDocs version is truly a document, I think you can export it to an Excel file which you can muck with offline.

Be advised that I have done no research on the availability column other than seeing if a particular model can be purchased today.

adidino, would it be easier to just take an image snapshot of the GoogeDoc version? Realize that the image wouldn't be updated automagically, but it should require little effort.

With that said, I'm running Daddy Daycare from home for the next two weeks and should have some free time here and there.

I'd say every one or two weeks, at most. New model and firmware announcements are really the only things that would force a change. Aside from trade shows, I really don't think there would be a constant flurry of activity once all of the basic information is complete.

Looks like Google Apps doesn't give you a view of the entire chart on one page so there doesn't look like there's a way for me to take a snap shot a post it. Unless I can export the chart to Excel then convert to an image file.

Does anyone have any extra information on the Memorex MVBD2510 on Woot.com today? Is it a Funai player? It has 5.1 analog outs and supposedly can internally decode TrueHD and DTS-HD.

You posted an image of the wrong sheet.
Please post the image of the second sheet.

Also, please leave a link in addition to the image to Google Docs for all to find the latest info.

I think what WhatHappend means is you posted YOUR latest chart update, you have to click on the "Appended and Sorted" tab on the bottom there to find the most up-to-date version posted.

EDIT: It may also be useful to include a link to the GoogleDocs link anyways, because there is some information that needs to be "hovered over" in order to be seen.

Got it.. Just posted the appended version and also added a link asking others to participate and help us keep it updated. Link was added to the bottom of the first post. Let me know if looks ok.

It looks the same...
But it's good that you added the link.

It's been showing the old image for me for the past week, too (the one that says 'Original v2.0' and 'As of 10/6/2008'). I don't think the 'appended and sorted' pic was ever posted.

Tony,

Could you provide a ling to the Excel spreadsheet itself ?

Because when I try to "hover" the cursor over the indicated column headings in the posted image, nothing happens (no additional information is available).

Thanks.

OK, Blu-Ray newbie about to order a player to go with my Yamaha RX-V1800. I have been thinking I would get the Panny BD35, and that it decodes the new DTS-HD Master Audio and HD audio out of the box, without firmware upgrade.

I did check the chart on the first page, but am not sure how "Complete" differs from "Stream", and I read a lot of this thread and did not find the answer. I could go with the Sony 350, but it does not say "Complete" on those columns.

Also, is the image quality comparable between the Sony and the Panny?

Thanks for any help.

"Stream" means the player bitstreams the HD codecs to a receiver for decoding.

"Complete" means it can bitstream and do the decoding itself.

Thanks for any help.

I researched both of these units and purchased the panny, I suggest you do the same. Overall, reviews on the panny are slightly better.
With your AVR, if you buy this unit, you will be able to either bitstream ("stream") OR decode ("complete") all new HD codecs, your choice.

to each his own...

By complete, and decode I assume you all mean. decode into the 5.1 analog outputs, or do you mean decode into pcm for output via hdmi.

Paradigm Studio 100/570/20's/2200 Sub

The only one I know of that has only 5.1 analog out and decodes all is the Panasonic BD50. All other decoding players are 7.1.

"Complete" means capable of decoding all codecs. Most players can output to either analog out or as PCM via HDMI after decoding. The only ones I'm aware of that can only output via PCM over HDMI after decoding are the PS3 and the Panasonic BD35.

I think the Sharp BD-HP21U also has complete decoding only through HDMI. I tried to find some links stating its features, but this CNET review and this sharp.ca site are the only ones I could find.
