Did you mean to put the chart a personal server? I don't recommend that. Have you tried MSN live to host the chart?

I see from this website that they've lumped the 35 and 55 together in describing MA decoding ability:

http://panasonic.net/avc/blu-ray/dmp...nticsound.html

If this is true, then the BD35 mimics the PS3 in its ability to decode all over HDMI. What's the pricing on the BD35? I must have confused this player with the Sony S350, which does not decode MA internally.

Pioneer broke my heart.
Denon broke my wallet.
Oppo broke my thinking.

The 35 and 55 are said to be $299 and $399, respectively.

Not bad at all considering what the 30 and 50 are still selling for.

MA decoding for $299 is incredible if it pans out!

I know. I've had $600 allocated thinking I was going to get the BD-50 a while back. My money is going on the BD-35 and I'll be $300 richer!

There's just a few MSRP changes that should be made:
Panasonic DMP-BD30: $399
Panasonic DMP-BD50: $599
Samsung BD-P1500: $299
Sony BDP-S350: $299

Image looks good.

You might want to update the initial post's text:

The Sony S300 with the latest firmware (4.2) appears to be like the 95FD in that it doesn't use Dolby THD for its analog outputs, HDMI only. Playing back a 96kHz BluRay disc and I get 96kHz over HDMI but internally the DACs are being fed at 48kHz.

What disc has TrueHD at 24/96?

All the TrueHD tracks up to this point are 24/48 AFAIK, so assuming this is true, this tells you nothing about whether TrueHD is being output via analog. Most lkely what is happening is that the HDMI output is being upsampled from 48khz (which is probably a bad thing anyway; you most likely would be better off with the native sample rate input to your avr).

"What disc has TrueHD at 24/96?"

Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds at Radio City Music Hall.

Play that back on the BD50, BDP-51FD, BDP-05FD and the dacs are all fed at 96kHz.

Play that back on the BDP-95FD (which is known to not use TrueHD for its analog outputs) and the dacs are fed at 48kHz. The S300 is the same.

Ok fair enough. The question though is what is actually happening. Maybe 96khz is simply being downsampled to 48 for analog. That would arguably (don't want to argue though) not make an audible difference and only apply to a few titles at this point.

How again can you tell that 48khz is being fed to the DAC's for analog? I have an s300 but I simply can't remember.

"How again can you tell that 48khz is being fed to the DAC's for analog? I have an s300 but I simply can't remember."

You have to open it up and measure it. The S300 uses PCM1791 DACs. Pin 1 on those DACs is the Left/Right clock. That clock cycles once per sample. IOW that clock runs at the sampling rate of the signal going to the DACs. R051 is connected to Pin 1 on the PCM1791. Measure that clock with a frequency counter or a scope and you know the sampling rate of the data going to the DAC.

The attached show this on the S300 when playing back the Dave Matthews BluRay with the 96kHz track selected. The S300 DACs are being fed at 48kHz, the core data rate just like the 95FD.

Sounds like you know your stuff.

But how can you tell whether the DAC's are being fed 96hz TrueHD downsampled to 48 vs. the core?

I know the Tosh XA2 upsamples 48 to 96 so it would seem also plausible that a player might downsample 96 to 48 (for whatever reason).

adidino, you rock.

It is posts like this that really make a site. There is no freaking way I would have had the patience to wade through the documentation or various links to answer the basic questions you have done for us. Thanks.

A request: given what we do/don't know about the upcoming Oppo unit (guessing Q109), could you put that in? I believe it will be complete across the board, 7.1/7.1, and 2.0. The MSRP is unknown at this point.

Cheers,
Bill
