Received my 51 from pioneer directly (ordered from their website) yesterday. Set it up last night, and watched the first half of Fifth Element, and Rescue Dawn all the way through.
I'm running HDMI directly to my Denon 3808, for both audio and video.
So far, absolutely no hiccups (yes, I know I've only tested two discs). Played both perfectly, remote response was excellent, PQ was really excellent. I have the player outputting source direct, and video set to 'professional'.
To answer a previous poster's questions, the audio and speaker options are greyed out for me as well, but I'm able to make adjustments once I have a movie playing. It's a bit odd (though, I didn't test if the speaker menu was accessible during playback).
OK, so here's my question...how do i know it's set to output bitstream to my receiver? When watching Rescue Dawn last night, I picked DTS HD Master, and the front of my receiver did indeed read DTS-HD MSTR on the display. When I went to look at the audio details it said 48khz...why did I think it should say 96khz? Anyway, if anyone knows, I'd appreciate an answer.
Only other issue, not the players fault, is that my harmony remote won't yet work with it. The 51 is in the database, but when i hit the 'update remote' button, the update errors out, and won't finish the update. says something about needing to learn the discreet on/off code, and some other error as well. If anyone figures it out, I'd love a heads up.
If anyone has specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them. As this is my first blu-ray, I only have 4 discs right now to test (Rescue Dawn, Fifth Element, Super Bad, and Juno), so I may not be much help in the specific disc testing arena.
OK, final question, I just remembered. No idea what HDMI high speed does, and if I should have it on or off, and also, under video, should I set it to 4:4:4, 4:2:2, or something else?
Thats all for now.
