I just got a new Sony 60" LCD and can now take advantage of some some more of the features available in my 05. Can anyone point me to a posting that tells how to set the Pioneer 05 to True Color/ 24 fps/ 120 Hz? Or just post how to do this with the remote?
It is not happening buddy, even though promised to be the fastest player on the market when released it was the slowest, no kidding! The BD-J capabilities of the player still leave alot to be desired. Maybe after so many getting burned on a player that fell short in so many areas or waited a year for decent FW to fix problems that is why the 31/33FD thread is dead with no one interested!
I'm having the same problem on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I picked up the 3D version to save myself from a double dip. I'm planning on picking up a 3D TV next year. The video and audio skip. I thought I might need new firmware but I already have the latest.

While that might be part of it, I also believe that Pioneer going down market in terms of Parts Quality and Build Quality has something to do with it.
If our BDP's were as terrible as some here think them to be, I would not think it would continue to be one of the most viewed and posted BDP Thread here.
It's viewed because people own them, period! If there is a problem this is the 1st place people will go to post and see if others have the same issues. It's PQ and SQ are excellent and I have never stated otherwise. It's horrendously slow though and it's BD-J capabilities are behind most other players in the market even when it was introduced. So it did some things extremely well and others very poorly. Late to the game FW didn't help either. It is a descent player now, but at release and until FW1.17 it was loaded with problems well documented on every review. Will the 09's replacement do better than the 31, 33FD? Only time will tell, but since the inception Pioneer has been a day late with features and a dollar short in terms of value with their bluray players.
Indeed... just look at the Epson 8500 projector thread! It's a POS and the thread is huge just because of that. Some people are on their 6th replacement.
That said, I'm a late 51 adopter so the +'s far outweigh the -'s for me, especially at $125. I love mine!
Back a couple of pages (near http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...ostcount=27324 ) and some previous and long time enjoyers (sufferers) of 51fd's have moved on. One favorite seems to be the panasonic 320(?) with two hdmi outs, one at the 1.4std for 3D, other at 1.3a for connect to last year's and earlier AVR's, and good internet connectivity. General comments seem to give it good marks for blu-ray and even SD-DVD PQ.
IMHO, anything that comes close to the 51d in sd-DVD PQ is pretty damn good. Little is better if using DAC on player for 2-ch or multi-channel analog audio outs.
Like prior poster, I am a late adopter of the 51D (two now) and think very highly of what they do well. I can live for some years without what they don't do.
I'm still happy with my new to me 51FD and 05 FD, i picked them up cheap. They are slow but have a great pic on my 5020 Kuro. My old DV37 and DV59AVI Elites are still going strong so i guess the 51 and 05 FD will last a long time.
I picked up the 51FD last year on the cheap and yes, it is slow but it plays everything. If I replace it, I have replace it I would have to find blu ray player that could give the CD performance.
Besides, I just like the look of substance that you could rarely find in today's uber cheap players.
We all know this player is slow so what do posters do, put a disk in and sit and wait for it to load?
I put the disk in, go to my kitchen and prepare whatever I am going to drink and snack on and when I hear the audio from the disk I go sit down and either call up the menu or fast forward through all the previews.
Why someone would sit and wait for this machine to load is beyond me, I did the same thing when I watch my HD DVD player which was slower I think than this player.
This player plays great since I found either my HDMI socket either on the player or my TV does not work properly and I switched to component cables, only thing is it does not upconvert DVDs with compontent cables but I can live with that.

+1! We have wine, eat cheese, break out the beer, make popcorn, say "Oh!" through full mouths when we hear the soundtrack and file into the theater. I think we'd miss the routine if it weren't slow.

I have two other Elites hooked up to my Kuro. So i can use another DVD player or watch something on one of my three S-VHS VCR's or watch OTA-HD while the 05 is loading up.
I wonder when the next software update for 05/51FD is due. Hopefully Pioneer did not stop working after releasing 1.65 and more improvements are coming. Those players are not that old.
