Ohh , and my girl sees the difference too.

Thank's baddgsx!
Unlike some, I enjoy hearing the girlfreind and wife's opinions on new equipment. Because if it didn't make an improvement I would be staring at this!

I don't know the A1-UD looks like it could do a good job in the music side too. But time will tell.

I'm sure the new Denon DVD-A1UDCI BD/Universal player will perform very well in different respects, and will pose an intriguing comparison to the BDP-09FD. However I will be most interested in how it behaves from a quality perspective- will it not experience a failure upon a short period of use (for $4200.00)?

I didnt tell her that i went to see Rob to get the player. On the way back she called and i told her i was stuck in some traffic because of the weather but im coming home with a new toy! Shes like Ohh God , what now! I said its a bluray player , and shes like you already have one so i had to try to explain the differences and finally said if we dont see a difference we can always sell it. And the new thing i say is that she spent 7000.00 on breast implants so she cant complain! , it works

But she does see a difference. She saw a difference in ISF calibration Kevin Miller did on all the other inputs and commented on how much more natural / real everything looked.

The same with this 09. She likes how much more detailed everything looks with out being fake / over done like a sharpness setting cranked up.

Tomarro ill have the player fully calibrated and i will post my settings here.

As far as I'm aware it's impossible to get a feed until after the chip as the circuits can't be accessed as they are inside the LSI. It is probably possible to avoid further post processing in players that employs a dual stage solution i.e. Denon 3800 = UniPhier + post processing Realta.

Interesting. My understanding is that the MPEG4 content is taken directly off the disk and sent to the scaler

Between a Sony PS3 and Pioneer BDP-09FD, which one loads Blu Ray faster?

Is the picture and sound quality that much different between PS3 and 09FD? Just trying to justify it.

Thanks

I don't have a 09FD but, in my setup, the Pioneer LX70a (older generation player) beats the PS3 on every aspect for PQ.
Just can't imagine what the 09FD (LX91 in Europe) will be ...

As for tests... If I run a test and it is borderline or even fails but plays perfectly fine with REAL material I am not worried about it. The S5000ES played any and all movies I put in it perfectly fine. Same for the 09FD. Kris D can test all he wants but when a player plays a movie without an issue then what is the point? Believe me, if there were issues when playing movies they would have recalled it by now. And as it was pointed out before, I purchased these units, spent a lot of time (A LOT), and posted my opinion. I am not paid, and I do not need advertising space. I call it like I see it. I am simply an End User Clinician.

Joerod, I like the way you think. While I should make this post on the 5000 thread, I could not help to mention how lacking Kris Deering's review of the 5000 was as far as detail. He was too focus on the 5000 not having wi fi and post processing like THX for the 5000's analog output. He also describes the sound of the analog output of the 5000 as being great, but questions the need for it with today's HDMI receivers and processors. I thought this was myopic to the point of making his review highly questionable, but typical of a reviewers from "Secrets of Home Theater." The Sony 5000 as well as the Pioneer '09 was designed primarily for those who do not have the capability of playing sound over HDMI. They allow one to keep their processors and pre/pros that have analog pass through without having to buy another unit. Therefore, these blu-ray players focus on the D/A converter or isolation thereof in their units. This is what you are paying for when you purchase these high end blu-rays. For a audio/video writer not to understand this fact or even acknowledge this fact has zero credibility with me.

Totally agree with gbaby!!!

The main reason for me is the DAC's on this unit, as it has already been pointed out eventually your digital sound has to be converted to analog before it gets to your speaker. I doubt you will find better analogs on your TV than these Wolfon's DAC's operating in dual mode. Plus a dedicated analog power supply to boot. Questioning the need for these analogs out is very myopic indeed. Which like you leads me to question if he even knows what he is talking about.

I have not read the review, but I would doubt that Kris even hooked up the analogs outputs.

Maybe somebody who read the review can comment.

He definitely knows what he is talking about. You might not agree with him, but that is what a review is all about. The Reviewers Opinion. Most of us here make our own decisions.

PS3.
I took some loading times between the 09 and 5000 for anyone is interested.

From close to menu screen using chapter skip to get there.
LX91:
Resident Evil Extinction > 2:12
Kung Fu Panda > 2:01
Rambo > 1:42
Casino Royale > 1:01

5000ES:
Resident Evil Extinction > 1:18
Kung Fu Panda > 1:50
Rambo > 1:12
Casino Royale > 0:40.

The word is bass management will be added to the DTS-MA (decode) update to complete the Pioneers analogue settings.

It will for all lossy formats but only TRUE HD in the lossless variety. If you have a client who has to have DTS MA lpcm now or soon, you should look at the Denom 3800 or Sony ES BD players.

I will first apologize for responding to your post, but after all you have made it public information, which opens the door.

Some how your comments, in juxtaposition, seem to be a bit of a paradox. Or, perhaps a view shared by a mutual admiration society.

Those implants give an improved 3D look. Much more depth in that image it is also not as soft looking.
You have to tell us which of the two prodcuts show the best improvements.

Thanks for saying what I really wanted to say. The good thing that came from the article in Home Theater is that I know I cannot rely on the publication for an informed opinion on audio/video products, and now I know that I won't be subscribing to it again. The last really great audio/video magaine was "Stereophile Guide To Home Theater." Just like Dan Quail was no Jack (John) Kennedy, Home Theater Magazine is no Stereophile Guide to Home Theater.

I have a subscription to Home Theater and will read the review when the magazine gets here; maybe I'll have a worthwhile perspective to share then. I'd be interested particularly in the context of some of KD's comments as reported here.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????

Does anyone know if the IR codes and the RS232 codes are the same on this unit as all the other Elite models?? ( I have some AMX programmer that wants to take a week to program changes to a new player and processor)

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????

Oh thank you for these times .... Much appreciated.

I read the first 9 pages for something basic like this in a review. Only to find that someone counted from somewhere between 10 and 12 with no disk. It does appear that the Java heavy bluray disks are still a time issue for the Pioneer. Certainly this information about load times is dramatically different than the information posted that they are all near the same. This certainly has not been my experience. In any event thankyou so much as I possibly would have read through the other 7 pages or so to find this on the last page. What value is the technical side of the review if I can't get reliable information about the load times??

The load times are certainly a factor in a decision when there is this much disparity. Again thanks for this. I have a customer that has the original HD1 and the only reason for getting another player is the load times. Also with this player the number of times that I had to do an upgrade to the Pioneer because it simply did not play disks has been much more than other players. More than any we installed actually .

To the person asking about the Digital Video Essentials ... Get your projector or tv calibrated by a pro. DVE wont even get you a decent grey scale. It is better than nothing tho and definitely better than following what others post for adjustments which I have never understood.
