Both players were in the same rack, with the same bluray movies playing at the same chapters during my A/B comparison, but this was on a 12' wide screen. The fact that your tv is relatively small at 60", I would lean to the Oppo as differences become more subtle at that size.

In addition, there is merit to the fact that it's an old player that is expensive to fix. If I couldn't get an extended warranty on the 09 for a decent price that would cover the entire player purchase price if parts become unavailable and/or the cost to repair it, the purchase would be quite risky. The Oppo also has an excellent remote with very good streaming capabilities, which I prefer using over gaming consoles for streaming apps.

i am not too concerned with streaming as i have an xbox one/ps4 so that takes care of netflix

i just want the best possible video quality and blu ray playback!!
Either player will satisfy this requirement and since you are placing such a premium on Blu-ray playback I would take both the BDP-105/105D and the 09FD out of the equations and look at either the BDP-103 or 103D. You could probably set your sights a little lower in price achieve your main objective.

Just one man's opinion.

It seems if you delete any custom name, you get the generic one, based apparently on number of posts.

Assuming you didn't click something unknowingly, then it's another one of those unexplained electronic glitches that occur for no obvious reason. You could always put your handle back in if you want. "Danger Seeker" had a nice, secret agent vibe to it.

I have both players in my theater rack so I obviously like them both.

I use the Oppo 103 as my everyday player as it is solid, performs well and is reliable. The 09 is reserved for my favorite movies and blockbusters as I always have an eye on the bluray drive.
I have a similar arrangement, except I have a BDP-83 and its audio is connected to the TV through my Duo VP; the 09's audio goes direct to my stereo. A video comparison done a while back showed both players to be good, but the 09's color was a bit richer to my eyes. Detail was pretty much the same. The Oppo is for quickie or "regular" stuff that doesn't necessarily warrant turning on the full system.

hi

just want to share ....

i have sold my 09 for 3 times and buy back 3 times as well .

everytime have new player , i try something new , thats why i sell it and buy another player such as pioneer lx55 , oppo 93 .95,cambridge 751, marantz 9004 , and i do have denon 2500 and 4010 before .

but after many times of test . the audio part , oppo 93 or 95 was unable or even close to 09 honestly ,u may try the cd part was huge differences .

and i do agree someone said at the earlier post , it needs high end equiment , and i would say just need a high end or detail speaker , then u will notice the the differences .

and what i will do for now .....i will try use the video part of 09 out to 105 and send the signal to my projector and see if it did a better result since oppo have newer video chip .

but i would say if audio was what u concerned , 09 was what u should keep .

District 9

Just curious, has anyone actually successfully watched their original pressing (slipcovered) copy of District 9 on their BDP-095FD recently? If so, were you able to connect to the BD-live content? All I can do is watch and/or skip through the promos, get to the "human? vs. alien? menu choice" and then ... nothing regardless of which option I choose. This happens even after reformatting and/or deleting all stored data. Also, FWIW, I can watch it on my HP Envy's BD drive. I'm trying to find out if it's just me that's having the problem.

(I updated my questions for clarity after the reply below - thanks Jon S..)

While I don't have this particular movie, I know that outdated BD-Live content can and have been deleted online by the studios when access drops below a certain point.

So tonight I slipped in my original copy of district 9 and encountered the exact issue you describe. I know it's previously worked on my Pioneer LX91 so it's extremely annoying that there is an issue with this title.

Not sure what to do at this stage.

It's all about the BD-live content I suspect...

First off, THANK YOU, THANK, THANK YOU ! I can't tell you how glad I am to know this has happened to someone else. Ever since my BDP-095FD was repaired in April 2011, I've lived with the fear that the drive would have problems again. This was the first non-hiccup event I've experienced since then and it had me worried all over again.

Knowing this District 9 BD used to work, I tried again with the ethernet cable disconnected - and it loads and plays just fine! When I reconnect the ethernet cable and try to access the BD-live content it warns me "Make sure you are connected to the internet".

For those with defective drives on their 09FD, there's an "easy" fix to the problem.

Order in china the BDR-L04SH drive, and replace your drive (it's the same one) while exchanging the PCB card inside the drive itself, and keeping your original card.
It costs under $100 and 2 hours of time.

I did it and it works like a charm, no need to reprogram the player to recognize the drive.
A "cheap" way to get those back to work.

You'll have to find one on alibaba, ask for a price and you'll get several answers. I didn't find one anywhere else.
