Not as far as I know; and there are plenty of Internet forum members (here and elsewhere) who use monikers that include trademarked brand names ("OnkyoMan," "PioneerFan" et al).

I wasn't saying it was a bad thing or something you shouldn't use.

A quick search shows that it is or was a feature of Onkyo receivers.

I know; that's specifically why I used the name (I'm a fan of their products -- look at my avatar ).

I liked the 606 I have but it hasn't been in my system in a while.

How's your 83 doing now?

Still getting hung up on the tray, but it doesn't happen all the time; I was gonna have it sent in, but now with OPPO's announcement of its 4K player, I may hold off and buy that...

I think getting it fixed is about seventy bucks, maybe not even that - and selling it will still get you about 2/3 of the original price, so - my (unsolicited) advice would be to get it fixed....

The 83 also makes a great secondary player perhaps in the bedroom, living room or some such.

I still use mine in the living room with a small TV and soundbar. Prior to moving it upstairs I paid the $70 to have the tray repaired. Plus they cleaned out a bunch of cat hair and dust, uploaded the firmware and returned it wrapped in another Oppo tote bag (nice touch). It was money well spent.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Agree completely. My 83 went into the bedroom for music only use when the 103D came to town.

At this point, I'm just going to wait it out and see what happens; I can deal with the little hiccups regarding the tray/loader (or at least I've come to deal with them) and look forward to perhaps replacing the '83 with Oppo's new 4K player when it arrives.

I would do the same with my 83 (if I get the new 4K player), but I already have a first-generation Panasonic DMP-BD10A waiting to pull bedroom duty for many years now (we never replaced the 4:3 tube TV in our bedroom with a high-definition display)...

I still use my BDP-83 SE with my 63" plasma. The 2 channel outputs are still superb, and my loader has been replaced,so it's good to go for awhile. I still have a large amount of DVD'S, and its upscaling is superior. So until they develop a broadcast HDR solution, and oled tv's become more affordable, I'm sticking to what I have, then I'll get another 4K oppo player.

Keep in mind that Oppo will probably run out of replacement loaders to fix BDP-83's with at some point. Given that the repair will most likely be free, it would be in your (and all of our...) best interest to send it off and get it fixed while the parts are still available. Then we can finally put the ongoing "my player still has issues" thing to rest. As someone else said, if you decide to get rid of the BDP-83 when you purchase a UDP-203, the resale value is still pretty strong, so getting the player fixed will be well worth the minimal effort it will take to contact Oppo to get the ball rolling and to ship it off to them.

I'm getting a bit weary of having to defend myself with this whole subject (and hopefully it won't be for much longer if I buy the new player), but I'll attempt it, exhaustively, again: I am only bringing up the problems with my BDP-83 at this point because someone SPECIFICALLY ASKED HOW MY PLAYER WAS "DOING" a few posts back -- I was going to merely put the whole thing to rest, as I've been commenting in the 203 4K player thread, but someone had asked about my player and how its functioning has been operating. I understand this may rub you the wrong way for some reason, but I've decided to keep the 83 until it stops functioning at all or at least until I can scrape up funds to buy Oppo's new 4K capable player. That's it.

Agreed on pretty much all accounts; I too am waiting until I can afford a 4K display to retire my aging (but still working fine) Sony SXRD rear projection set to look into the new Oppo 4K player.

I'm joking but it is perplexing.

My recent Oppo experience...

My beloved BDP-83 is about 5 years old now. About 3 months ago i started seeing the tray eject issue just about everyone seems to get eventually.

It was not terrible, but it did get steadily worse so I contacted Oppo and they were (of course) super easy to deal with and very quick to respond to my e-mails.

I paid to ship it to them. They told me they might charge flat $79 if they had to use any significant new parts. But I was lucky, it just needed a good internal cleaning so I did not get charged. They only had it for 1 day then shipped it back to me at their expense.

My 83 is like new again. Glad I took the time to do it, but I really missed not having it for 2 weeks (I live on the east coast).

Oppo's customer service is second to none. Someday, when I get a 4K UHD tv, I will not hesitate to get a new 4K player from them!
