Overnight shipping using FedEx for Saturday delivery would have cost you additional funds over the standard Overnight rate. Overnight Delivery is designed for Businesses (Monday through Friday).

the audio button on the remote doesn't seem to switch between stereo and multi-channel on a SACD. Anyone else notice this?

So far, the player is still buggy, but the things it does right are fantastic. I haven't voted yet.

I was so desperate today that I emailed OPPO with the following:

Dear OPPO,
I re-read the original EAP email you sent me on 2/24, and just noticed it included the request at the top of the message to confirm my continued interest... Since I did not see that at the time but did see the second sentence below that states no further action is necessary, can you tell me if I am on the EAP list, or not, for round 2. Also, since I see that the 70% threshold has been surpassed to expand the EAP, are you able to say when the round 2 participants will be selected?

Sadly, I got no reply.

Just curious. Did anyone else see the confirmation request message at the top of the EAP email from OPPO? And should I infer anything if I did not click on it?

You're receiving this email because of your relationship with OPPO Digital. Please confirm your continued interest in receiving email from us.

If you are still interested in receiving communications about the BDP-83 and participating in the Early Adoption Program, no further action is necessary.

sorry if I missed this, have there been any FW updates -since- the EAP? Doesn't look like it, but I'd be surprised if they didn't send out some bug fixes with the second wave, no?

(ie., from first post:

This is said to be incorrect, it should be:

EAP is not considered BETA testing per se. Only the BETA tester's are the ones that have access to newer 'test' firmware. I don't know if it is out of the question though, but it should be final soon enough, then we'll have access to current firmware.

I had the exact same response to the email and, at the time, did absolutely nothing in the way of a reply because I thought I understood that no further action was required. What will be interesting now is to see if we are picked as part of the next 100 EAP participants. I would hope we are still in the pool but I guess only time will tell.

Yes. That's the point of the EAP. I am sure OPPO wants to know his point of view and as well other members of the forum. He states that the player is "buggy". I would like to know what's "buggy".

I know more than 10 of you guys have done this.

Guilty on all counts. I've even set *@oppodigital.com in my email's whitelist & added an email rule to tickle my pager when such one comes in.

As we all wait eagerly and try to stay on topic, if you haven't already, it's time to read:
1. the user's manual
2. the unofficial FAQ
3. Gonk's review
4. Gary Murrell's review
5. First post of this thread for updates.

Personally, I've completed them all but #1, and so far I'm quite impressed by the manual. I don't recall ever seeing a manual that explains what the 'notches' on the back of the remote are for.

Sanshite Imasu! (I agree).

Usually this type of e-mail has only the "You may unsubscribe if you no longer wish to receive our emails", whereas the Oppo email had a preceding "Please confirm your continued interest in receiving email from us". I did not notice the initial "continued interest" query at the time and I would guess most others did not as well. My assumption, in hind-sight, is that if you did not indicate a desire to be removed from the email list (and EA program), you're still good (at least that's what I'm counting on).

The only way to switch SACD audio streams is in the setup menu. Doing so will re-start the current track.

Computer tip for those awaiting that Email from Oppo about EAP: I set my Outlook Email client to poll the POP3 mail server once a minute. No need to push a button manually and repeatedly! Let your PC nervously check for that special Email...

OPPO used Constant Contact for those emails and I think that both the 'confirm' as well as the 'unsubscribe' links at the top of the email are routine parts of Constant Contact's emails and weren't part of OPPO's message as such. Therefore, since the body of the email from OPPO clearly had "If you are still interested in receiving communications about the BDP-83 and participating in the Early Adoption Program, no further action is necessary." those who did not explicitly 'opt-out' are almost certainly on the master list for EAP round 2.

Yeah, I'm sitting here anxiously awaiting an e-mail as well. I have so far refused to buy any BluRay player but an Oppo (as I have had 3 of their DVD players to date, and can't imagine not having an Oppo), but my wife's birthday is approaching, and I have quite a few BluRay discs awaiting her. My only hope is that I either get in or it releases before than. As otherwise, I'm going to be forced to buy something else, and that's just not a road I even want to think about exploring.

From the manual's Audio Setup wizard section (PG-23):
If you connect the player to a receiver supporting HDMI 1.3 and high bit rate audio formats, selecting the Advanced setting is recommended. Menu click sound and Secondary Audio Program are turned off by default to preserve the original quality of the main audio content.

So it appears that if your setup meets the qualification's noted, you can defeat the menu click sounds.
