I bought one from my local Sony Style store last Friday and returned it today. I had it connected directly to my Sony Bravia LCD via HDMI and the volume output for some movies are way too low and the dialog almost impossible to hear. Just like it's older brother the S350. The lows on these Sony players just sucks.......too bad though, I really like these players design.

For the record, I own a Panny BD60 and the volume is perfect. No problems with the lows....

Hi,

how is the deinterlacer of the S360 working? Can it be set to film mode or is it adaptive? Or just a flag reader like the S350/550?

Wold be nice if anyone could report

Both units came in today and I"m very satisfied with my purchases one is hooked up to a onkyo 805 and a 60xbr2, and the other is hooked up to a samsung 46 650 and an onkyo 605 and both look and sound great. As far as no eject button on the remote it did work with my bps1 remote to eject the disc. So no problem for my harmony one.

Must say I like this player a lot , out shines my BPS1 in how quick it loads an in DTSMA playback sound is very dynamic. Standard playback is good but my XA2 has just out preformed any thing else in that area. It will do, 480i over hdmi as this is something alot of you ask for. So as for now I'm very happy with my purchase.

I see this thread is about stand-alone BD players. How do they compare to BD Home Theatre Systems? BDP-S560 vs. BDV-E300/500W? I'm trying to make a decision here.

I also saw earlier in this thread people are not happy about missing 7.1 analog output. Where should it output what? I understand, video to TV? If I have HDMI on Pioneer plasma TV, I don't need analog output?

Folks with AVRs lacking HDMI input need 7.1 analog output from the BD player.

IMHO, it's probably not the video section that is the weak link in HTiB - it's the audio - the amp, speakers and subwoofer. This is really not the right forum for a HTiB vs components discussion. I think one of the audio forums is probably a better spot for that. I will say that I would have a hard time going back to a lesser audio system from even my very modest system - and I would *never* go with less than my current SVS sub!

If you think this post was dumb, you really should read my blog=> http://bumpedhishead.blogspot.com/

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, if it's the wrong place to discuss this. I'm just trying to decide what blu-ray player I need to buy, and I think Sony is a good choise. That's why I was reading this thread about Sony's 2 new players. Again, thanks and sorry.

From the online manual, it looks like it does do 480i over HDMI but still lacks the source direct mode the S300 had. Gak.

So is there a plan for netflix or pandora or amazon on demand with these units? seems like every other new player has one or more of those.

Do the Sony have any of these? I saw a stck of s360's at Best Buy a week ago and didnt see any logos for streaming on the box. Maybe a firmware update?

Just enjoy HD in whatever form you can (Sat, Cable, D-VHS, OTA, HD DVD, or BD).

Pcmag.com just did a review and load times were like 2 seconds faster compared to the 350.

If your Sony TV is like mine.....there is a "Volume Offset" in the sound menu.

This volume offset can be turned up for each different input.....go to your tv input that has the issue and try this.......this might help.

I have already tried this, and basically the problem is the dialog. By raising the volume, movies become very loud and dialog too low. I've tried setting the DRC on the player to TV mode but then movies with True HD tracks, audio becomes very low and super compressed, the DRC does not have any effect on movies with DTS-HD audio, and this audio is very loud and aggressive, and the dialog is hard to hear as well.

I am. The player was connected directly to the TV. I now have a Panasonic BD60 connected directly to the TV and the audio is not an issue. So the problem it's the Sony player....

Best Buy has the BDP-S360 in stock now. It has a slightly slimmer profile than the S350 and the connections and fan arrangement is different as well. The 360 has more of a black color so it should blend in better than the 350/550 with most people's equipment.

It looks like Sony removed the eject buttom from the remote on this model (the S350 has it), plus by looking at the remote picture, it still doesn't have the slow motion/Frame by frame option.....C'mon Sony, you are suppose to be the face of Blu-Ray. Why are you releasing sub-par players??????

I have to agree with this statement. My good friends purchased this player (S360) on Wednesday from a local big box. I was pretty excited to see it. I took them a handful of BD movies and went over to put this machine through the paces. It certainly is an adequate BD player. But it seems like Sony should be giving a bit more. The remote seemed over simplistic and watered down a bit. No eject button? That stinks. The load times are still somewhat slow as well. After having tinkered with several brands and models, the Sony players seem mediocre. That said, would I discourage someone from buying one? No. Blu-ray still rocks and everyone should have one.
