"At the High End in Munich, Marantz Universal's Blu-ray player called "UD9004" (working title) imagine this is based on the high Player SA-7S1 ". Besides the Blu-ray and DVD playback is also CD and SACD can be played (this uses Marantz's HDAM technology, Hyper Dynamic Amp module). The facilities include an SD card reader, an RS232C interface and an Internet connection for BD-Live content. The picture and sound quality of Marantz uses technology, such as,

36-bit Deep Color 36-bit Deep Color
10-bit Silicon Optix Realta Chipsatz 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset
297MHz/14-bit Video DAC and two Sharc DSP for HD Audio Decoding"

I would be interested, but this looks like a feature-match to Denon's high end blu-ray, so MSRP might be $4K USD or something like that.

You are probably right in that it will share design features if not whole components or sub assemblies but thus far Marantz products exclusively contain HDAM's and have a much warmer sound than any thing Denon has brought to market. This might not be the one for me but I am definitely interested at the $2000 price point. Marantz has a history of bringing products to market at much higher MSRP's than what they ultimately settle down to and much higher than street price.

I would never dispute that Marantz makes quality products... But sometimes it's hard to justify the price difference, particularly on their non-reciever/amplifier/etc. business.

Marantz makes some nice sounding gear of that there is no doubt. I own several pieces including some from their reference line. I wanted their new Reference integrated amp until I saw a picture of the interior and the MSRP. They lost a sale because of that picture. It may be the best sounding integrated amp ever made but it looks like a $300 Sony on the inside.

Yes, I am afraid that the UD9004 will be out of my price range. I was looking at their product offerings yesterday. For the life of me I cannot figure out why they have a 2+ year old universal player that does not do BD and is not HDMI 1.3a compliant and they have 2 BD players that do everything except SACD (and DVD-A but I could live without that). And evidently to fill in the gap, they are going to market with a reference priced UDP but it will not be in the Reference line.

I wonder what inside the "UD9004" is based on SA-7S1? Is it just a rebadge Denon flagship with the HDAM-SA2 analog audio modules? Will they re-use the NPC DAC chipset for the stereo audio output?

Here is some info on this player in a press release on the Marantz web site

http://us.marantz.com/PressRelease_M...2009_Final.pdf

It seems like it is going to be the Denon A1 with probably some better quality components to justify the $5,9999.00 price tag which is $1,500.00 more then the Denon.

This is a universal player (hence UD), so it does playback SACDs.

Looks like a pretty solidly built unit. I see the focus on the copper screws, feet and detachable power cord. Naturally I couldn't read the article, but the pics are cool!

As the two previous posters indicated it's a little rich at $6000, makes my $2200 Pioneer BDP-09FD look like a bargain. What did stand out was the pic with it sitting next to all of the Marantz reference series equipment. The black color of this player looks ugly compared to the other high end stuff....

Blu-ray.com mentioned the player. They said it does not support DVD-Audio. I wonder if that is correct, if so I wonder why DVD-Audio support was dropped.

Just out of curiosity I did a bit of research about this upcoming player from Marantz. Other than certain key areas (like the use of HDAM's, layout, cosmetics, etc.), this player is a near clone to that of the Denon A1UD.

The transport looks to be the same one used in the A1, it also uses the same 32 bit AK4399 DAC's, same 10 bit HQV Realta, and the specs of the UD9004 are identical to the A1. Even the weight of the player is nearly identical, even being that the Marantz is larger.

So if this thing ends up selling here in the US for $6k or more, in reality will it be that much better than the A1 to warrant such a steep price tag?

If it will output full bandwidth SACD (as DSD and PCM), it will be.
