Ok...

All titles I have played have been Blu-ray, except for Madagascar 2....I am still new to the Blu-ray thing, so I don't know what is Blu-ray Java Heavy or not. Madagascar 2 was a "backup" on a single layer DVD-R. The SD upconversion of Mad2 was fantastic. I got to say, for the money, this is a great piece of equipment. I have the XBOX 360 HD player, and the JVC blows it right out of the water.

Hey man, congrats on the new player! I think the JVC player is one of the most aesthetically pleasing players out there. It looks sweet. Hopefully it performs as well as it looks. Some java based titles that take an infamously long time to load are the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Ratatouille and lately Slumdog millionaire. These titles take around minute to load on many players. Infact Slumdog take over a minute and a half to load. If you get one of those feel free to report your findings. Thanks

Thanks...will do!

I work long hours, so only get to watch about (1) movie a week, and am lucky if it is not a family flick...but I am truly impressed for what I have seen so far...for the money, it is a sure winner. I like the look of the Panasonic a bit better, but the JVC is no dog...I love the blue lights, although a bit brite...If I come up with any problems, complaints, or comments, I'll be sure to post!

engadget is reporting this thing has PC streaming of some kind. I don't see that in the JVC XV-BP1 manual. All I see is BDLive and USB dongles. Can someone confirm or deny PC streaming?

Anyone know if it supports DTS-HD MA decoding? The "Bluray Player Audio Support Comparison Chart" thread entry is incomplete.

I got this player yesterday. $262 from Amazon affiliate. Startup is super fast, it takes like 4 seconds to open the tray. BD+ Discs with Java take about a minute to load and basic discs take about 13 seconds. That vertical blue bar to the left of the buttons is WAY TOO bright. And it doesn't serve a purpose except to be bright as hell.

Eric, is the blue bar dim-able? The last thing I want in by light controlled theater is a bright light on a front panel that I can't turn off.

f300v10,

I've been going over the manual and I don't see anything about the faceplate display being dimable.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, VideoForge HDMI II, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

Yup, I did the same. Just hoping there is a menu option not noted in the manual. If they are not dim-able, they have lost a possible sale.

The lights don't bother me. I'm more interested in it's SD and BD capabilities.

Thanks for the information. It would be very helpful for this forum if you could chime in on this thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1051423

As you'll see, the people on this thread have set some pretty specific standards (which shouldn't be difficult to meet with a decent digital wristwatch and netflix account). I've been very interested in this player and would like to see some comparisons against some of the other players on that thread.

I agree with Mr. f300v10, the lights need to have dimming for those who have the unit in their line of sight. The blue LED's are way to bright in that first photo, above.

I do like the look of the unit; it reminds me of Emotiva gear.

I guess I'm in the minority, I love the blue lights. I saw this at a local bigbox store here this weekend. I think this player aesthetically is one of the best out there. I can't wait to here more impressions from more first end users.

They do look cool, but they are ridiculously bright in a dark room.

General audio question: The menu is very simple and doesn't have many options. I didn't notice any audio downmixing options. I don't have a HDMI receiver right now but when I get one soon I will still be using 5.1. What component is supposed to downmix 7.1 to 5.1, the player or the receiver?

Who here says they don't? They rock! But they're too bright! (And toned down on the promotional photos). I'd personally get eye strain from them.

I saw one of these at hhgregg during lunch today, and used the remote to look at all the menu options I could find. I saw nothing that would allow the front panel lights to be dimmed or disabled, which is to bad. It looks like a nice player, and responded quickly to inputs. What disk would be a good test of heavy java disk load times?

Pirates of the Caribbean and/or Ratatouille because they have been used to benchmark pretty much all the player in the market so people are very familiar with them now.

I have two of these blu-rays and i must say the picture looks a lot sharper than the samsung 1600 player i replaced. This is the only player on the market that plays pal format dvds. Dont hesitate on this one its worth every penny!

Does anyone know if this will play mp4 video from an hfs+ external hard drive? The manual only references flash drives.
