Thanks. Looks like it has the PCM/HDMI option but the Source Direct video? It seem Sony has dropped that from their newest players, so if Momitsu has that in their new player along with Oppo. Now that would be an embarrassment to Sony, I would say. Hope somone here on this thread can dig that info. up for us.

The Momitsu does not feature Source Direct.

That remote looks identical to my LG BH200 remote. I wonder if LG had something to do with this player given that they were the first multi-region Blu-ray player.

Not identical, but close. Just probably a case of both OEMs useing the same "source" for manufacturing the remotes... outsourced from who knows where.

Probably a dumb question but this will play and upscale native PAL without PAL-NTSC conversion too yes? Like 1080/50...? I have a lot of PAL dvds and want all the res. possible. thx

I want really good BD playback too.

That doesn't convert PAL discs.

Just get an LG BH200 if you have a PAL compatible display. It plays all and upscales all.

Dare I even mention that this thread (and others like it) wouldn't even exist if the other side had won? (but I'm convinced that was the single biggest reason why it didn't win the war)

Even so, I've only read about half the posts...but so far this player is very intriguing to say the least.

In the players settings, you can choose NTSC or PAL for TV type. When I choose Pal I get the message your TV does not support this TV type.

I'd have to go along with Smarty-pants on that one, but, yeah, they do look identical. Does the LG remote also feel as flimsy?

Well, that is half true; it features source direct for Blu-ray playback, but not for DVD playback. If you set the output to HDMI Auto and turn 24p film mode on, it will output 1080i/60 as 1080i/60 and 1080p/24 as 1080p/24, but it will upscale DVDs to 1080i/60. Also, with these setting, PAL-to-NTSC conversion will not work. HDMI Auto has to be disengaged, and a specific output resolution set for PAL-to-NTSC conversion to work, then the Momitsu will upscale DVDs to 1080p/60, if that resolution is selected.

Wow, what a mess. Between all that and having to punch in codes for regions and such all the time, it's more like playing video games than watching movies.

Do modded players like this one do PAL-NTSC conversion?

However it will NOT play Pal DVDs on a NTSC TV

Which also means playing back any PAL supplements on a BD is out of the question as well.

Yup, mine bit the dust...no sony or the like has ever died on me. My oppo had some weird stuff going on recently as well though :|

I have the BH200 and think the remote is solid, not flimsy at all. The only difference I notice in the appearance by the picture shown here is the fact the BH200 remote has an extra row of buttons above the ABCD buttons. The remotes are obviously based on the same basic design and likely made at the same facility.

These days, there's no guarantee that any brand is going to be reliable, with everything being manufactured on the cheap all over the world. I've had two Sony ES SACD player's crap out on me -- never mind all the trouble trying to get them to honour their 5-year warranty either.

.....so, you need the player that plays anything, except fried eggs, assorted lite files, and Laserdiscs, eh....?

I was slow getting my "closed lip" Momitsu returned when my mom came up ill. I finally got it shipped out late last week. Maybe, with some luck, I'll have my replacement deck in for the coming weekend?

My next TV will be a PJ....I got a power socket on the ceiling waiting for company...

In real life I am Dot Mongur champion of the International Pacman Federation. I don't play the game, I operate it.....no dot is safe from me....

You don't have to set region codes all of the time for DVD-set it for 0.
I just ordered one, should get it this week.

HKflix is sold out, waiting for another shipment. Their website claims they are (were) coming in on the 13th. Now they say its coming but they have no idea when.
I'm underwhelmed.

I'm a little perturbed with HK Flix. I sent back my defective unit nearly two weeks ago and they did not retain a unit to send me. I'm waiting for them to restock so they can send me another.

Yea, I hear ya. I had for the most part stopped buying from them years ago. Their customer service isn't very good, and they are pathologically slow.
I wished this was available elsewhere. For all I know, I could be at the bottom of the waiting list, and not even get one when they come in this time either.

Has anyone tried to hunt down one of these units directly from a retailer in Asia? It's still uncertain whether this this is actually hacked by HKFlix or just shipping that way from Momitsu but, like most components playing fast and loose with the rules, just not "documented."

To be honest, I'm not sure. Momitsu's website does mention PAL/NTSC conversion, but not multiregion playing-of course, PAL-NTSC implies it.
The hack is just a sequence on the remote, so I'm guessing its not HKFlix's doing. HKFlix is now saying they are waiting for the shipment to get through customs.
