Hello

I only know dune hdi players which play blu ray and also mkv + other HD files.
Do you maybe know any other such players?

When will big companies like Sony,Samsung,LG, Pioneer, Denon... start selling such devices.

Thank you.
Kind regards.

Oppo does.

Just enjoy HD in whatever form you can (Sat, Cable, D-VHS, OTA, HD DVD, or BD).

Thank you.

Is't realy strange that larger companies (sony, samsung, lg, pioneer....) are not selling blu ray + mkv players.

I was reading the specs again, but it seems that there is no way to play files over the network connection.

I guess the next iteration will take this into account.

uh.... the guy asked for standalone. Requiring tversity and PC is not standalone, so PS3 does not do it.

As for a player, other people are talking about the Dune BD Prime, but it is a European model and company. It is region free, but it will be hard to get it in the US. I'm strongly considering this instead of the Oppo as the Oppo seems to be in a holding pattern (I've been awaiting for 4 months for it to be released).

Less then a month now...

Though, think of it this way. There's no way the Dune BD Prime will have been debugged anywhere near as much as the Oppo.

Less than a month? How many times have I heard that? Technically, if you take what Neuro said again, it should be next week because he said Mid-April (strictest sense would have been this week). I doubt that will happen and another window will be missed.

I don't know if it worth awaiting anymore when there are alternatives now (not necessarily better, but good) with the DMP-BD80k (no mkv support) to the Dune DG Prime. I'm tired personally . If Oppo doesn't want my money, there are other companies that do. With all technology, there has to be a point where you buy and say good enough (and not wait forever because there is always something coming around the corner).

We don't know how HDi support will be, but there is a high probability that you are right that they will not be as good as Oppo support.

LG is coming out with Blue ray player that will play MKV, AVCHD and DIVX. Here is the link. See the spec sheet in PDF under Specs tab.

http://www.lge.com/us/tv-audio-video...ayer-BD390.jsp

I think by the end of this year, we'll see SD Dvd players with Divx Profile 7.0 which supports MKV.

I just bought a samsung BD-C5500. Apparently a well known fact (so I have discovered) , you can not fast forward/rewind an mkv movie - I have it attached from an external drive to the BD player on USB. The file is 10Gb.

Are there any players around that successfully allow you to fast forward/rewind and even move chapters in an mkv file? On my pc its works ok

Any recommendations - budget Blu rays (say < $150) I would appreciate
Thanks

RIBOOWW2. I have just bought the updated version of your samsung blu ray player. I also have a portable hard drive (buffalo 1tb) and have a few mkv movie files on it. it plays the files just fine, and it can fast forward and rewind as well.one thing though,a couple of the movies have different audio codecs the player didn't support or recognise.but these were Japanese animes that were dubbed, most likely why. hope this helps,oh and it supports 3d blu rays.all this for £100!!

Not true. As with avi files, the Samsung player can fast forward/rewind/goto time index in some mkv files but not others.

With avi files, the Samsung player has problems with any that use the avi 2.0 extensions to allow file size > 2 Gbytes (although some encoders always use the 2.0 format regardless of size).

With mkv files, those produced by MakeMKV don't work properly with the Samsung player, those produced by Handbrake do. I always use Handbrake to make my mkv files, so it's not a problem for me.

Are there any bluray players that support FLAC, Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS-HD Master in a MKV container?

I have a friend looking for a sub $250 BD player that can play MKV files. Is there such an animal? If not what's the cheapest player that does?

Thanks in advance.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Under $250 there are many players, there are even some under $100 that do it (assuming you are meaning from an external hard drive or DLNA streaming, not sure which units will play via disc).

Look into the LG's for respectable mkv support, even the inexpensive LG BD610 has native mkv support and can often be found on sale for around $60.

At around $250 he might be able to find an older used Oppo and most of the more recent Samsungs have native mkv support.

The Sony BDP380 I have does play mkv off a USB stick or USB hard drive, and does it pretty well - got it for less than $100.

Not really. I've had maybe 10 players since blu-ray won the format war, and all of them played AVC-HD discs fine. The cheapest one was a $40 Insignia. I've never paid $250 for a player.

When I got the Oppo bdp83 it was just about the only game for MKV files. It does seem a good deal of players handle avc discs well.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
