I am using a URC remote in my system and was curios what codeset people are using for the Denon 2010 for those that dont use MFG remote. I tried calling Denon and the CSR said the codes have not been released to the public yet and didnt have a timeframe. He also couldnt recommend a comparable one to use (BP1800,2500.or 3800). I previously had the DVD3910 in my system but many of the codes are missing for the 2010 functionality. Any ideas?

No i live in France,
here, they have a so-called "DENON club" service, to which people register by providing the serial numbers of their equipment (ie no equipment under warranty => no entry).

Once registered, you can post requests for assistance, like i did, and they normally answer within 3 days.

I put a request this morning, then they replied and asked to have some film titles on which i got the freezing issue,

i think they are serious enough, and i will get an answer in time.

regards.

Historically denon used the panasonic unipher chip; the most recent panny models have been very prone to freezing from what i gathered. obviously the 2010 has an abt video processing chip, but wonder if there's still underlying panasonic components common in the 2010 and panny 60/80 that cause the freezing if you can rule out heat as the culprit.

i have been using my marantz bd7004 for over two months now as my primary player. it has not had a single freeze and has played every disc i have thrown at it. it's slower than my oppo and not quite as good on some dvds, but is damn reliable.

yes this is it!
your theory about the uniphier is interesting: but unfortunately for us, it is hardware related, so if it is true, there is no solution.

Anyway, as long as the reader does not block completely on the movie, i can live with it.

Just had my first freeze since doing the firmware upgrade. It was Taking of Pelham123 @1:00:46. Freeze lasted about 3-5 seconds and resumed playing just like other reports. Of course it shows up after my return policy expires. Another Denon crappy product?
---------------------------------
i am going to call Denon now and 100:1 they say they have no knowledge of freeze problems. Stay tuned...
---------------------------------
Ok I just got off the phone with Denon and big surprise....they have not heard of the problem. All the CSR could say was that he thought maybe it was a dust bunny on the disc that was being detected by the lens, and since the Denon lenses are SUPER sensitive it freezes momentarily. For those of you experiencing freeze issues or ANY issues please report them to Denon so they can actually support their product and not give their usual BS replies. It is going to take Denon getting flooded with calls about this problem before it is escalated to level2 support and possibly a firmware upgrade. Do not sit quietly with this problem.

If anyone has experienced a freeze, I strongly recommend you harrangue denon. first and foremost, call in denon and pester them - call multiple times. post a review on amazon saying yours is great but it freezes. post on bestbuy. make yourself vocal and persistent until they recognize the problem and try to solve it. my personal opinion is it originates from an issue with the video componentry shared in the current panasonic players that have the same freeze issues. it does not affect all players - my marantz and 2010ci have never had an issue.

I had repeated failures with my marantz sr6004 and now we have the nationsl sales head posting on the sr6004 forum. be vocal and persistent.

NOOOO!
This is terrible, as I think you have had your player for as long as mine or maybe even longer.
For it to finally have this freezing problem after all this time is really likely to make buyers wary.
Now there is no telling if it will show up months later or within the one month return period.
This is very distressing as it is a great player if it wasn't for this freezing problem.
Like my previous Panasonic BD80, I personally don't hold much hope that there will be a fix by Denon for this random freezing problem.

believe me, i was shocked. i laughed out loud after i had written a post ten minutes before saying i never had a freeze. it lasted roughly 5-7 seconds and then resumed without any issue. strangest thing.

No problem with me with "Up". The four I had freezes on are "The Deep", "Dark Crystal", "Labyrinth", and "Taking of Pelham123". I got a clueless CSR, also. I'm working on upping it.

Other freezing titles were: Underworld Rise of the Lycans, Crank 2, Fast & Furious, Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs, GI Joe, Orphan & Star Trek.
Personally my take on this is the title doesn't matter.
These and other titles may freeze on some players but not others, or if it does freeze it could be in a different part of the movie.
The only common denominator to all this is it is "COMPLETELY RANDOM".
You can never predict where or when it will freeze.
I have tried all the possible fixes by updating this, disabling that, and so far nothing has made any difference.

Just got done watching Angles and Demons and had NO freeze.
It was a new copy, but so were all the other previous titles that I have experienced a freeze.
This freezing problem is completely random and unpredictable.

JJ,

I've had just one freeze (Gladiator) of about a dozen Blu-ray movies I've watched so far. I've not had a freeze on standard DVDs. Has anyone experienced the freeze on standard DVDs, or can we rule this out, and focus the issue with Denon on "Blu-ray only" applications?

No freezes with DVD's.
This freezing problem only occurs with blu-ray movies.
