So Lets get this thread started. I am very excited for this new Denon player. I have heard a lot of mixed things about the Denon 3800 blu-ray and have stayed away from it. I have high hopes for this new denon player.

I really dont care about SACD or DVD-Audio, netflix streaming, or any other gimicky stuff. I just want to have the best 1080p high definition video and audio, with a quick responsive player.

Details:
plays Blu-ray high-definition discs (selectable output resolution: 1080p signals available through HDMI output only; 720p/1080i signals available through HDMI or component video)
plays DVD-Video, DVD-R & DVD-RW, DVD+R & DVD+RW, and DivX discs
plays CD, audio CD-R & CD-RW, and MP3 & WMA CDs
plays digital photo CDs (JPEG/Kodak/Fuji)
selectable 720p/1080i/1080p video upconversion for DVD (upconverted video available through HDMI output only)
built-in audio decoding for Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, and DTS-HD Master Audio
multichannnel uncompressed PCM output via HDMI
bitstream audio output via HDMI for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
picture adjustment functions (brightness, contrast, color, gamma correction, sharpness)
Anchor Bay ABT1030 upscaler for superior DVD video upconversion
3D Digital Noise Reduction for optimum picture quality
Pure Direct mode for enhanced sound quality
BD-Live and BonusView support for added bonus features with compatible discs (Profile 2.0)
HDMI version 1.3a with Deep Color and x.v.Color support
HDMI-CEC for control of compatible Denon components via the HDMI connection
1 set of A/V outputs (composite video, component video, and HDMI)
stereo and 7.1-channel analog audio outputs with bass management
coaxial digital audio output
SD memory card slot for storing BD-Live material, plus digital music and photo playback
RS-232C port for third party controllers
IR input and output for remote repeater systems
Ethernet port for downloading BD-Live bonus material and possible future upgrades
detachable power cord
rigid construction with dual-layered top plate
independent block design to reduce noise and interference
remote control
192kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters for all channels
17-1/8"W x 4-1/2"H x 13-3/4"D

Too want a basic, no-nosense player to replace my very reliable Panasonic BD30. I really like the looks of this unit as it'll match my beloved Denon AVR-3808CI. And now this is actually out, I can't wait to read some reviews.

This Denon is destined to be my next blu-ray player, as I personally had no luck with the Oppo BD83.
I currently have a Panasonic BD80 which is a nice unit, but am looking for something with a higher end multi-channel analog audio section.
The 2010 should fill this bill quite nicely without breaking the bank, and be a great match up to my Denon AVR 5803.

I'm interseted in this player as well, to match my components.

The Oppo has ABT2010 chip, while this Denon has ABT1030 chip. Does any know the differences or which one is supposedly better? (I know it's also dependent upon implementation) I guess will know better when someone does a comparison between the two.

hi everyone

i have a denon 3930 and i am wondering if i should go for this new denon 2010ci with its anchorbay video chip or stick with my 3930 with it's hqv silicon optics realta chip?¿?¿this part is for the dvds playback,i must confese that the 3930 is doing an amazing job upscaling my dvds

now, i have a panasonic bd35 and i want to replace it with either the denon2500bt or the 2010ci ,wish do you think is the best choise for blu ray playback?¿?

With regards to the Anchor bay chip in this player and compared to the one in the oppo or even the silcon optix, does it really matter anymore? Seriously are we watching regular dvd's that much anymore? I hardly am.

I am sure the chipset in this player will do a decent job, and most likely be better than the faroudja DCDi which at one time was the best.

I need a player that will also match my denon receiver, and look like a serious player, not these toaster slice players that everyone is making.

I know! What's wrong with the designers out there? All the other players look butt ugly.

I don't expect this machine to be as fast as the Oppo, but if it plays Blu-rays well and is as reliable as my Panny BD30, I'll own one as soon as it hits Canada. DVD's and SACD's are for my DVD-3930CI, I just want a new BD player with ethernet for the rare time I want BD-Live or firmware updates.

I think the ABT2010 can be applied to HD as well as SD plus 24p playback for regular DVD which the ABT1030 cannot offer.

There is no application for the chip for blu-ray.

Maybe if your using the 480i composite cable, and if you are then you dont deserve to be watching blu-ray

It does more than just up-scaling. Its an overall video processor. So it is functioning with blu-ray. The chip in the oppo is designed from the ground up with HD in mind. Here is the info on the chip in the Oppo:
http://www.anchorbaytech.com/product...rs/abt2010.php

Here is info on the chip in the denon:
http://www.anchorbaytech.com/product...rs/abt1030.php

The ABT 1030 is for the most part a basic up-scaling chip and doesnt do near as much as the chip in the Oppo. The ABT2010 is also found in the high end denon DVD-A1UDCI

Thanks E.T. for the chip info.

I seriously doubt there will be any concernable difference in blu-ray PQ between Oppo BD83 and the new Denon 2010.

For people who are still upconverting DVD's, that's a different story.
I doubt the 2010 will do as good of a job unconvertering as the Oppo does.

I say this as having previously owned the Oppo BD83.

Hopefully where the new Denon 2010 will really shine is in the audio quality department.

Having decent DAC's & bass management for the multichannel analog connections will be a big plus, as most players really lack in this department.

The Oppo also has bass management with trim control, but didn't work well with my Denon receiver at all.

The Oppo caused major LFE overloads in my receiver which could not be fixed by any adjustments, and finally resulted in me sending the Oppo back.

My personal experience with other Denon players was been very good, having previously owned a 3930CI, and currently a 2930CI for DVD-A & SACD.

I have high hopes for the new 2010CI, that it's performance will meet or exceed my expectations.

But for $700 retail, why wouldn't we expect this player to perform well on DVD upconversion as well as the Oppo. Yes, I agree, bluray should be on par. However, we could formulate or speculate the ABT1030 would not be as good as the the ABT2010 chip. Somewhat disappointing here.

like the 5910, in the denon a1 doesnt the abt chip just do scaling while the realta does the video processing?

I am keeping my DVD-2930 for SACD & DVD-Audio, would I see any benefit from the ABT 1030 over the Realta REON VX-50 HQV? If not, I can save some money and get the DBP-1910CI and continue to use the DVD-2930 for DVDs.

Has anyone ordered this player from crutchfield or onecall? its odd that they both list it as in stock but even denon says they havent released the player yet. not sure if i want to put in the order seems a little shady to me.

Unfortunately I am going on vacation tomorrow, so it'll be at least a week before I can hook it up and give a review. Sorry. Hopefully someone else will get one, also.
