Marvell processor belongs in receiver

My guess is that 1000ES puts out a killer picture due to video processor. As I read these pages, I learned that Pioneer has included Marvell processor in their new $750 receiver as well as in their new SC37($2200) replacement for SC27.

What I like about my Toshiba SD9200 and my Oppo DVD player is that they have easy to use A-B Repeat button on remote.

This player lacks A-B Repeat button, and that's my disappointment.

If Sony did not include A-B Repeat on the remote, can a different remote program A-B Repeat single button? I have a Harmony. Is it possible that the designer of the remote failed to include A-B Repeat button? In other words, people who designed the remote might have goofed?

I do not believe it has ever been confirmed. It is not found anywhere in marketing specs from either company best i can tell.

True, 1000ES is a lot faster on java discs especially.

I prefered the 320 for dvd and analogue audio, but no one can argue the Sony's superior warranty, wireless connectivity, etc.

airborn007,

I've detected no material improvements in PQ for both blu-ray and DVD when compared to my Pioneer BDP-23FD. If I had to choose I would probably lean more towards the Pioneer, but the Sony will be in a guess bedroom. This would just be my preference. Some have noticed a difference in favor of the Sony when compared to the Pioneer 320 and 23FD, but I'm not seeing it. Different setups and calibrations or tweaking may yield different results.

As far as speed Sony has a Quick Start mode which does work as advertised. However, "When 'On' is selected, power consumption will increase and the fan will continue to run when the player is off". Overall there will be an improvement in speed compared to your BDP-05FD.

Got my "open box" 1000 from Vanns yesterday. It was a brand new unit. Not bad for $149 shipped! HOWEVER, the damn matching s-370 theater system that was open box is DOA.. argh.....

CCONKLIN1,

Hopefully they will make good on a replacement for the S-370 even though it was an open box.

Pioneer spec'd Marvell processor; Sony did not.

Two places: latest flyer(July-Aug 2010) from Parts Express features new Pioneer 1120K receiver and lists "Marvell video processing" as one of the product's high-lights.

Pioneer's site describes 37SC receiver as replacement for 27SC, and the site announces Marvell chip as an important part of their latest product.

Make sure you have the audio set to Direct in the 1000es set up menu.

joerod,

I guess Sony can't be like the masses and use words like "HDMI audio" or "bitstream".
