I was able to get an internet connection to the player and update the firmware. I also inserted 4gb SDHC memory just to cover all bases. If you can provide a few times for loading "Inception" I'll verify whether this unit is a keeper.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you estop.

I watched inception this weekend. It took a little over a minute to load up and start the previews (Blockbuster rental version). I'm not sure if the full version available in the stores is dramatically different or not. I hope this helps!

Thanks schweich12, mine was about the same. I think it is faster loading since updating the firmware though I didn't recheck previous times. Additionally I'm timing more carefully now and realize my times aren't as long as I originally thought.

This is a pretty nice player actually. It fits my needs for video and audio quality and has an excellent warranty. Think I'll keep it.

Anyone know if this player outputs 1080p24? I'm using source direct and the panel seems to indicate that it is receiving 1080p24 but not sure.

So far totally thrilled with this player. BD is killer and CD's sound amazing from the analog outs. Really impressed. Yes, its slow, but not a deal breaker.

Trying to understand all of this

I auditioned the Oppo 80 before buying the bd7004 and feel this is a much better player. Load times are a bit longer but not a lot (after updating firmware), picture is comparable but with better motion, audio is noticeably better and best of all this player works as advertised without audio or hdmi quirks. It has reliably played everything perfectly, for what more can one ask.

Thread Ressurection time!!

I currently have a Denon DBP2010 with a remaining 14month warranty. Id love to go for the new UD5005 but i just cant stretch to it right now but after seeing a 7004 for sale for £200 (Used) i am very tempted.

Ive read through all the post but just need confirmation that you can download firmware updates via the net or Ethernet port instead of sending off to a dealer.

Only reason to change from one brother to another is that i brought the SR7005 last month and would prefer both units to match.

EDIT Sorry, forgot to ask. Can you also confirm whether it can or not play CD-R/CD-RW discs. Many thanks

currently i'm using the 7004 for bluray dvd etc but also cd listening & altho it's good, would it be better to have a dedicated cd player for music since i'm using hdmi only for the marantz? i have mordaunt-short carnival speakers & they're ok, plan to upgrade to jamo c607s so am trying to get the best listening experience on a tight budget. was thinking of getting the onkyo cs5vl since it has many rave reviews & not a bad price. thx!

I have used the 7004 for music for quite sometime and have been quite pleased. I use the dedicated stereo outputs to a marantz 6005 receiver and Klipsch RF-82 speakers. Can you do better, probably but I don't know what you are willing to spend to get there. For comparison purposes, I had my brother bring his Emotiva ERC-2 over one day just for kicks. Sound quality was much better but not enough for me to justify the expense for another player. We did not use any high resolution audio, just regular CDs. The cost on the ERC-2 is about $350 right now and it does have an impressive feature set. If I listened to CDs more than digital music these days, I would buy one. Currently, I use my NA7004 to stream rhapsody for most of our music.

So my opinion would be if you are using the disc player for occasional cd use, you should be fine. If you will use it for heavy music use and really want the audiophile quality, go with the emotiva product.

i love the styling of the emotiva, but since it only plays redbook or enhanced cd along with cd-da there seems to be more sacd content available (after googling for catalogs for either) than hdcd or even redbook, so since my avr is an onkyo ht-rc180 with no analogue in for the marantz' out, i use hdmi so guess i'm left to either just listening to standard cd or go with a player that will also do sacd. i'd buy the emotiva but i'd like to be able to get the full listening experience & it's playback seems limited to me. i don't want a $200 player but i can't spend a grand either lol. it's a dilemma...

Guys,
any idea how to do a factory reset on the 7004 Marantz?
I also have the Panasonic 500 3d player and no issues with it going through the Marantz reciever
Sr 5008
But when I hook up the 7004 into the reciever then out to pj
No picture.
When I hook up hdmi directly from Pj into bd player picture is fine.
Cable box
Apple TV works fine through reciever just bd doesn't.
And I've played with every setting on the bd player.
Service needed maybe on the 7004?

Just started having an issue with my 7004, the ir sensor isn't working with the remote it came with; was using a Harmony One or my Onkyo remote & had been working flawlessly all these years & now nothing. So unplugged the unit for a while, plugged it back in & the ir sensor received remote commands & next day, nothing again. Anyone else had this problem or a fix? Thx.
