The grain, as everything else in the movie, is stored in digital format on disc.. you're NOT projecting analog film when using blu-ray. The digitization process has occurred when the film was scanned and then mastered, this happens regardless of which player you end up using to reproduce the content at home.

Oppo has the ability to do DNR, which can affect film grain depending on the setting used. You might have enabled this feature. Also, the Oppo CAN use contrast and color enhancement features, but you have the ability to disable these features as well. The default is to have all these features disabled.. can you check to make sure they are disabled?

Regards..

To jump in... To some (and I stress some) of us, it appears that the 103 QEDO chip is applying some DNR even when set to 0. This is admittedly a
controversial topic on the owner's thread, but I will say that I see it in my 103. But that could account for the OP seeing more grain from his Panny.

They all have variable levels of adjustment, often multiple parameters. So sure, they are processing. If you turn the settings way up it becomes obvious.

If you are asking do you need that processing, or just a simple transport that decodes and applies chroma upsampling correctly: for Blu-ray simple is easier than it was for DVD, which was actually harder to deal with. Blu-ray, by comparison, is just about ready to display as it is recorded on the disc.

A new factor is Darbee processing as implemented in the Darblet gizmo and built in to the OPPO BDP-103D. When used properly the effect is subtle but it has its fans, even among purists who generally do not like processed video.

Hi, I just receive my new Denon X4000 receiver going to set up tomorrow, just waiting for more HDMi cables and I do have Klipsch 5.1 speakers ( 2x F-30, 2x S-20 , 1x C-20 + sub-12HG ).

Now I'm trying to find out more about Blue ray. I do have PS3 as Blue ray player, it is really different on picture and sound quality compare to Denon or Oppo players?

And dual HDMI outs, and HDMI inputs, and better analog audio DACs for better AQ (if you use analog audio outs).

Why is this Sony Blu Ray so much less expensive than this Oppo?

Is the quality of the picture any better from the Oppo or is it just the extra feature you pay for?

What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? I bet you got little save pitiful, portable picnic players. Come with uncle and hear all proper! Hear angel trumpets and devil trombones. You are invited.

Because, unlike the Sony 3100, the Oppo plays 3D BluRay discs, SACDs, DVD-As, has better analog audio DACs, has dual HDMI outputs, and HDMI inputs. For playing 2D BluRay discs, DVDs, and streaming Netflix, you don't need any of those features, and the Sony will have excellent PQ.

Thank you.

That is what I thought. I wanted confirmation.
