no videoprocessing beyond underlying panasonic chipset (if same as 5004). not an oppo killer, but a competitor. denon is the same and $100 less but two years shorter warranty.

The 7005 has the Anchor Bay chip, should be very good as well and, although the "purists" hate Netflix, I like it a lot.

slimoli,

As opposed to calling it an Oppo killer I would say it a much needed improvement over their previous model. I'm going to wait until it is in the hands of the people, before declaring it anything. The Oppo model for some is almost 18 months old so I would expect a little improvement from Marantz since their previous model didn't fair very well against the Oppo. I may take one for a test drive, but I am more inclined to wait for Oppo's replacement of the BDP-83. Only time will tell as far as how well the Marantz and Denon's do this time around since they both kind of flubbed the previous model.

Do you reckon the new Oppo will incorporate wi-fi, Netflix, Pandora etc since that appears to be trend for mid and higher end players?

slimoli,

As Bill stated there has been no info from OPPO or any rumors here about when an new player will arrive or what it's features might be. It could be this year or next, but a BDP-83 replacement will eventually come.

I can't see why anybody would buy the 770 instead of the 550. The BDP-S1700ES model was recently announced for $400.00 and looks much better than the 770.

Just picked-up a Vizio VBR231 at Costco for $150 - http://news.ecoustics.com/bbs/messag...81/638741.html

It's my first blu-ray player and it appears to offer a lot for the money. Look forward to testing it out.

Looks like it just came out and googling didn't find anyone that has bought and/or reviewed one yet.

Are you referring to BD or video upconversion?

HiFiFun,

You seem to be posting your subjective opinion any where you can. You are getting a lot of mileage out of this, but to what end.
