That was one of my main points in cautioning what performance improvements people might expect in going to a dual band 802.11N router and in referring them to other technical issues that are explained nicely on the www.smallnetbuilder.com site.

FYI, it appears the BD570 will NOT discover an 802.11n 5GHz signal, only the 2.4GHz. I have a Cisco WET610 bridge that can see both the 5 and 2.4 Ghz. signals, but the LG does not.

But to confirm what you noted above, the WET610 shows a considerably lower signal level for the 5Ghz band (with wireless N access point about 18 feet and a couple walls and a floor away.)

Have read a lot last few pages about the new driver update (H80599)... but can't find a mention about the NEW firmware 325.c...????

Or am I confused here and the H80599/325.c are one in the same download..?

And to reply to "60PK550 buy?" for smaller speakers that sound BIG, try either the Tannoy PBM 6.5II (non-powered), or the Event PS6 (powered).. I gave up my towers years ago!

The files I'm trying to play are between 25-30Mbps and the player is hardwired into my 10/100 network. I'm pretty positive its not the network or the server because several computers within my network have no trouble playing back these files smoothly.

Has anyone been successful in streaming high quality files such as these with this player?

By the way, the exact same files play perfectly off the BD590's hard drive once I copied them over.

Thanks.

I was able to play 25-30Mbps 1080P files smooth by using Nero MediaHome with the latest update 4.5.8.0b.

it may be a total coincidence, but I have had no avi stutter since the most recent driver update. Someone previously said that the driver update just effected bluray compatibility.

Did you get the new firmware directly downloaded to your players or did you go to the LG site and download it to your computer and then either use a usb jump drive or make a data disk to load it into your player?. I noticed that at the LG support site the new firmware was only present for about 1/2 a day now it has the BD.8.31.323.C version which they have had for for couple of months. I usually down load it from the site and make a data cd to install it incase in the future some unexpected problems comes up. I think that you can put on a previous version back on your player although I haven't done that yet myself. Has anyone done that. It seems that when they solve one problem with firmware updates it causes other problems.

Interesting.. MediaHome is a DLNA server right? I'll wonder if it's doing any kind of on-the-fly conversion, I'll have to research the program more. I was trying to avoid using any kind of intermediary (DLNA server), because the reason I got the BD590 is that it is one of the (or THE?) only BD players that supports CIFS for reading directly off a standard Windows share.

I'm wondering if MediaHome is transcoding anything it could be lowering the bitrate? Just speculation, thanks for the tip. I'll try installing the software on a test PC.

When I play videos via HomeLink, the video looks right but the audio sounds like it is on 2x speed.

I am on Wifi and the homelink can see AVI files on my NAS device. When playing these videos from my PC, they play fine.

I think I have also put these on same files on a flash drive and tried playing them via the USB port, same thing.

??? Anyone else seen this? Got a fix?

I downloaded it from the bd 570 update screen. I believe it is a Servo update. Which could be the 24hz update. Servo has do with timing with the motor.

.325 has been the current firmware in Canada for some time now. It's the equivalent of the US .323 I'm in the US and the only recent update I have received is for the servo (H80599).

Hello all,
I just bought a BD590 at Adorama for $185 or so. When I run the BD590's HDMI through my receiver (Sony STR-DH510) I only get a green screen on my TV after the boot logo. It works fine if I connect the BD590 directly to the TV. My receiver can handle HDMI input from my Tivo just fine, so it's not that my receiver is shot. It seems that it's a problem with the HDCP not handshaking properly. I've tried powering on the components in various orders to no avail. LG's phone support advice was not to go through my receiver because it's "not supposed to go like that."

My questions for you guys are these:

1. Has anyone else found a fix for this green screen problem?
2. I'm willing to just get another receiver if you guys could recommend one that we know works.
3. Should I just return it and wait for the BD690 and hope that works with my receiver?

Thanks for your help.

Ryan!

I have the same handshake problem with my DVDO scaler. My fix was to connect both component (or composite) and HDMI. I use component to navigate the home page, once the DVD, Netflix etc has started I change to HDMI and all is good. You shouldn't have to go back to component until you turn the unit off. The handshake seems to work with HDMI once you run a disc. I know this not a fix but a workaround, however it works fine, especially if you have a universal remote

Terminator 2: Skynet on BD-570C update:

I received the following email from LG a few days ago and didn't read it until now (secondary email address). It says the following:

"Hello, thank you for contacting LG Customer service.

I apologize for the delay in responding. We have finally been able to have this issue tested and are not able to duplicate this issue. We can only recommend that a USB key must be inserted into the unit and the unit connected to the internet to play this title. If the issue persists after doing this please return the player to your point of purchase for an exchange.

Regards
Dave H.
LG Customer Service
LG Canada"

Thanks LG.

Apparently my BD590 will also not work on the 5 GHZ 802.11n band. See the LG specs for wireless performance below. I have been using my BD590 (which appears to have pretty decent RF sensitivity) exclusively on the longer range and slower 2.4 GHZ frequency band. It works fine for Netflix downloads, even when I had a relatively pitiful 1.5 mbps DSL connection.

I have three BD 550s purchased back in May and I have been able to update the software periodically with no problem. Today, I went to do the suggested update to 323 and on all three, I was able to successfully download the update. However, on all three, the update failed to install. What is up with that? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I found the ...325 firmware only on the canadian site. The us site has the ....323 firmware. Would there be a problem using the 325 firmware on a machine in the
U.S? I'm talking about downloading it on a disk or usb not directly downloading to the player by internet connection.

UPDATE: I went and got the update from the LG website, put it on a USB flash drive, and updated my three players that way. It worked and I'm not sure why this worked versus the typical procedure. I found this workaround buried deep in the thread so thanks to all.

Unfortunately, it's range and performance were below the Buffalo router. I also tried a D-Link DIR615 N router and while it performs great with my blu ray player, the signal range to my basement PC is terrible. I have heard good things about the Linksys routers but I just can't afford one right now, although there are some deals to be had on the E2000 I've heard.

I believe the Canadian version of this player does not have Netflix and some other apps, so I would recommend against using Canadian firmware.

Just ordered an LG BD590 from Amazon, any chance LG could/would add Amazon VOD with an update? Any thoughts, if LG added Amazon VOD to the 2011 models might it come to 2010 models?

Amazon Prime Members now have access to some unlimited streaming content.

TiVo Roamio Pro, Premiere XL4, Premiere 2TB-WD20EURS, TiVo Mini

there's no chance of them adding amazon, you've already bought it, why would they give customers a service for free? You'd need the 6xx series for new services.

Not really true. I don't think they will add amazon, but they did at that DIVX TV Channel a few months back so it isn't entirely impossible.

No...Amazon Video on Demand IS NOT FREE. It is only an application that LG can easily add should they desire to do so. As was mentioned, DIVX was added well after I had purchased my 570 and yes, that app service IS FREE. LG adds apps to their internet abled TVs left and right and Amazon is one of the apps on the TV. My step-son has a 55" LG set and said there is a substantial amount of apps available, more so than could ever be used.

The main app desired is HULU PLUS in my opinion.

Nothing is "free" (not even OTA), but Amazon is providing streaming of some movies and TV shows to members of their Prime service at no additional cost.

I would suspect that LG's motivation for adding new services even after a product is launched and bought and paid for is that these services pay LG for the number of eyeballs their service gets exposed to. I doubt they add anything as some kind of benevolent gesture toward hardware owners.
