Great.... DTS MA discs don't play properly. The dialog is very distorted to the point where the dialog is very low (sounds like what you would hear if you were talking into closed hands). WTF. The settings are identical to that of my BD390.

Did the firmware update and it looks like it fixed it....on both an MKV that had the same problem and the BD (Gentleman Bronco's). So we'll see... This happened every once and a while randomly with my BD390, but it was maybe 1 out of 30 DTS MA BDs.

I think a lot of us forget that these are blu ray players first and everything else that you get with them is a great extra. I have the 390 and want to get the 590. I have streamed netflix and vudu with only minor issues both those were from my Internet connection end. Other than that it plays all my discs. I think people are looking for one machine that does everything well and you are not going to find that yet.

Having owned the 390 and now the 590. The 590 did seem to load the bluray I tried on it last night faster...I did have some hiccups with my wireless but after downgrading my security from wpa2 to wpa. It seems to have alot better of a connection. Pandora worked smoothly for me, Netflix seemed better than that on the 390 performance wise. Havent tried vudu or cinemanow. Picasa loaded right up and accuweather seemed to be having some issues loading.....All growing pains that I assume will be tweaked with future firmware updates.

Thanks for the info, wonder why mine stopped working. Going to see if theres a way to go back to the old firmware and then re-download, or just exchange the unit

As online streaming becomes more common, will that be reversed? That streaming comes first and the disk functions are just for playing old libraries?

I've tried only a few BD discs so far but they all work fine. Load times seem fast. Netflix works great. I couldn't get Vudu to stream HDX previews - might be a problem my wireless network strength though. The 590 froze up on me while attempting to access files on my desktop computer requiring me to unplug the player to reset it. Hopefully future updates will solve the minor hiccups.

After the firmware update, I stated having major issues... another reboot solved them so far...

Only thing that seemed different after the firmware, I can't jump ahead using the timer when streaming video... can still use it while watching video on the usb hard drive (good way to cheat not having a rwd and fwd).

Can play mkv files... although, I've erased all of them to start converting using vobmpeg converter (change of name, into one file for easier playback on 570). I'll leave the original ts folder on the server / htpc.

Weather worked fine... clicked on the other stuff, not loaded any of them yet.

All disks seem to work fine... no issues so far after the upgrade, but only watched maybe 5 movies / partial movies.

After working with this over the weekend, I doubt if I'll do streaming from a computer to the 570... more than likely only from a usb hard drive... as said before, I'll keep my media center... still like the streaming there and like media center's free tv options... was watching Twilight Zone while making some networking cables a while ago. Made some new cables to feed my new setup... and to clean it up... messy back there.

edit:

spoke too soon... now my surrogate movie that I wanted to finish watching looks washed out. Odd, I've made no changes, not moved anything... only the firmware update. Even tried rebooting and starting from the beginning. hmm...

Had my eyes set on the BD 590. Will move my 390 to bedroom. Then [i] came across the VBR200W from vizio. Appears to have a lot of apps on it. Good price too. May have to see the reviews compred to 590 or 570.

Just got the 570. Easy setup with my Netflix and Pandora accounts. Both working well with a wireless network connection.

I have a Mac laptop and am having trouble with my DLNA however. I downloaded Nullriver MediaLink on my Mac and the LG sees it and allows me to select it but when I try to connect "a network error occurs". Am I missing something? Does anyone know a workaround?

The software that comes with the LG, Nero MediaHome 4 ,is PC only.

You don't need to install any software to stream from a Mac with the 570. Turn on file sharing and enable SMB under sharing settings. Your 570 should now see the folders you setup to share. Just put the files you want to play in those folders and you are all set.

Picked up a BD570 yesterday from Frys. Haven't done much yet but find a problem with it regarding the audio sortof.

Can't find a way to turn off the HDMI audio as there isn't any "off" in the selection. My audio from the player is connected to the AVR; had to "mute" the TV audio using the TV remote else I get audio from both the AVR & TV.

Perhaps there is a hidden setting for no HDMI sound?

Did have 1 problem when setting up the BD570; the setup went fine until I got to the "update" section & had the bd570 do the looking for updates; lockup; hardwire connection to the router. Had to pull the power cord to shutdown the player.

On power up, everything went fine & got the new update available which I did. Just don't get too anxious to update the firmware before using the bd570!

Oh, opinions please. My Panasonic 37 incher can accept 1080p @ 60hz. is it preferable to have the TV downscale from 1080p or 1080i as I remembered that the Panasonic doesn't display video at 1080p.

I have a BD370 which does not have the networking functionality. Would love to play videos on my server downstairs. I dont care about wireless but DNLA is critical. Does the BD550 have DLNA or will I need to get the 570?

That brought up my files! - thank you for replying!!!

Now I need to figure out if I can play my itunes music in succession. Seems like I have to click every mp3 individually at the moment

GizmoDVD, I saw a review on BB's site and apparently, the 570 has problems playing mkv files, the user claims that it stutters but not on the 390. I would keep the 390 for now if i were you until a firmware update happens to fix the stuttering issue on the 570.

Just throwing my 2 cents in..

Yeah, MKV stuttered on me last night about 45 minutes into it. A reboot fixed it. I have a 45 day return policy at BB, so I'm sure it'll be fixed by then.

So I just finished reading every post and I have a few concerns regarding the 570. And I apologize in advance for the noob questions...

1) Can you stream mkv, avi, m2ts files wirelessly from your computer to the 570? If so, how?

2) Can you use playon? (for hulu)

3) Is there a USB connection in the back of the 570 so I can avoid using the front to plug in an external HD.

4) What's the difference in PQ compared to a Samsung 1600 in terms of DVD upconversion?

I appreciate your help! Once I purchase this player, I'll be happy to post my setup.

Aside from the "extra" streaming site-capabilities on the BD570, what would be the real argument for buying this if you already have a BD390?

If you can play items from your network/pc thru the 570 why do you need a HD on the 590? Would there be a benefit to move a large file from the network -- place it on the 590 HD so the play image quality is better?

I am trying to transfer an MKV file from my iMac to an 8 GB thumbdrive. The file won't transfer onto the thumbdrive though because the MKV file is over 4GB. Does anyone know a way to copy the MKV file onto the BD 590? Are you able to copy through the network?

The 550 does not have DLNA, so you will need the 570 (or 590).

I had the same problem with Up and IIRC the exact same places. So it looks like this is definitely a problem with the player. I was able to go back to the spots and ff over the skips, but it needs to be fixed.

I just got the 570 to replace the Samsung BD3600, which is going back due to continuously dropping the wireless and getting locked up just about every other time playing discs.

First impressions are that both video and audio are very good - wireless seems to be stable and SD up-conversion looks as good as it did on the Samsung. I plan on comparing it to my Oppo DVD player and will post any major observations.

As one other person noted, there is a problem with the movie Up - chapters are skipped at the beginning and end of the movie and in the same places as previously reported - so it was player issue, not a smudged disc.

No lip sync problems (unless Cinemasmooth on the Samsung plasma is activated, which is another matter entirely).

Interested in others' impressions of upscaling.

Just picked up a 5700 last night but had several problems both pre and post update.

1. The wireless seems very weak. Not a big deal as I intend on using a hardwired connection but I thought some people might be curious.
2. Unit froze up several times on BluRay discs. Transformers, I am Legend.
3. Unit began stuttering between TrueHD and then dropping out to just ProLogicII on my receiver (Pioneer Elite VSX 21). It then began to stutter even when the menu was coming up for the BluRay disc...

I will give it another try tonight, but if I have any of the above problems its going back.

First off, I really appreciate you early adopters for reporting in your findings.

Secondly, are we really 4 generations into blu-ray and still having disk compatibility problems?
I was all set to pick up a 570 (or maybe even a 590) this weekend. But now I'm back to considering another PS3.

Built a new home, now filling it with sights and sounds!
