anyone with similar issues?

Did you see how the unit performed right out of the box? Did the software update make it worse?

What software are you using to rip the Blurays?

RVD26, Anydvd HD is the best, then you can use the Handbrake convert to MKV and shrink it down (8GB would be better).

I'd just like to report in that my brand new (and software updated) 570 is working just fine.

I've played a regular DVD, Avatar Blu Ray, streamed Netflix and Pandora so far. At the beginning of Avatar I had a crazy loud clipping sound but went away after I turned it off and back on.

It is sloooooow to start playing Blu Rays, but this is my first one ever so I don't know if that's par for the course.

Leaning towards one of the LGs because I like having the option of being able to play most of the file formats.

Any other boxes out there with compatible or better features worth looking at?

Also can anyone tell me what if any other features the 590 buys you over the 570 other then the built in drive and what are some of the things you can do with the drive that makes it worth spending the extra money on ?

Has anyone tried the LG LE5400 with the LG BD550 player?

US Appliance is selling them together for an affordable bundle...

Received my LG BD570 yesterday. It setup and connected to the net easily and quickly after mating it to my Linksys WRT400N dual band router.

Before downloading the update that was indicated, I tested Blu-ray discs of Avatar and Chris Botti to compare with what I had seen on a former Sony BDP-S300. The overall speed, visual and audio quality of the BD570 was superior in every way to the Sony.

I then downloaded the update. Afterwords, I again viewed and listened to the two Blu-ray discs that I consider as reference sources. I could not discern a difference from my viewing before the download.

The player was purchased from Vann's for $183.97. Their service was professional, excellent. tax free and no charge for shipping.

Did anyone compared the Panasonic DMP-BD85 and the LG BD570? I'm really interested in buying the BD570, but I not sure if I should take back the Panasonic DMP-BD85?

updated the 570 to the latest firmware yesterday before watching Clash of the Titans. It skipped several chapters at two separate location. Has anyone had this problem?

I have had the BD 590 for several weeks now, and am very happy with my unit. It is connected wirelessly via a new Lynksys E2000 router via DSL. All streaming...Netflix, VUDU, Pandora, Gracenote, BD Live have performed flawlessly--no hiccups or drop outs, and I have likely streamed well over 36 hours of media.

I bought the 590 because of the 250 gig hard drive. I have been searching for a non iPod music server solution for my home theater for quite some time, and all other possible solutions were significantly more expensive than the BD590. I prefer not to stream from my PC hard drives--Call me old school, but I like to keep my audio media seperate from anything on my pc. So far, I have archived 175 CDs at 320Kbps, and the LG does as advertised.

The video quality of BD and DVD is very good, and I am very impressed with the HD quality of VUDU HDX streams -- the audio is quite good, yet not as good as BD uncompressed...

A few quirks, and or things I would like to see in future updates:

--A screen saver on the music screens as well as Pandora. There is a screen saver on other portions of the menu, but not when playing music from the HDD
--The option to be able to add more than one playlist. Unless I simply have not figured it out, it seems that the only playlist I can customize in the playlist named "my playlist" It would be very useful to be able to create several different playlists, but it seems this is not an option.
--FLAC. Archiving using lossless would eat all 250 gigs pretty quickly, so I settled for 320Kbps, which is fine, but still a comprimise. The ability to archive using FLAC would be my ideal solution.
--Gracenote does not seem to have the cover art for any new releases I have purchased in the past month. Would also like to have a way to correct errant tagging---mostly in the wildly interpretive 'genre' section. The gracenote function is very good despite these two points
--Although it is not a priority for me, when trying to link my laptop through the homelink function, I also get a CIFS login screen. I have followed the many links regarding this on this thread, as well as have attempted every known password to no avail.
--There have been probably 2 or 3 instances where the 590 locked up. This has occurred mostly when switching menus or functions. Everything worked fine once I powered down the player and fired it back up again.

There is a problem with Napster powering off the player on the latest BD5xx software/firmware version. LG's aware of the problem and apparently working on a fix (hopefully!).

I bought the BD590 about 2 months ago. I love it so far although I have the netflix won't stream issue. I can do youtube, vudu, pandora, etc without a problem. I get the notorious "this title cannot be watched instantly at this time..." error. I am still trying to figure that one out. I have tried the solutions of direct cat-5 connection, static IP, updating firmware and such. I am about to give up on that function.

I will give the bd590 a 4 star review because of the netflix issue.

You also did the "Initialize" after updating the software ? Some people report
the update does not take effect until they did this intialize (aka factory reset}

Hello,
I hate to ask this question here, but you all seem like the most qualified, by far, to accurately and honestly answer.

I am deciding between a BD570 and a Pana BD85.
I will soon have a LG 60PK550.

They both seem like great blu-ray's (I have no need for 3D).

Many have said the upconversion and overall PQ on the BD85 is significantly better, and perhaps less problems with the panasonic.

I know there would be the ability to share remotes with tv, which is of no concern.
Which to chose?

Thanks

During my research I saw many comments saying to stay away from Panasonic players. I have no direct experience with them though.
I have had no problems with the LG 550 since the firmware fix for Netflix.

Three very popular choices are anydvd, dvdfab, and makemkv. Some products require a fee, others are free. MakeMKV is free now (each 60-day beta license) while in beta. Some of these will let you rip to m2ts as well which can be an advantage for some media player chips if they handle m2ts natively but not mkv (not sure if this is still an issue, it was a year ago). I don't have an LG BDP anymore so don't know what the current compatibility is.
