OK, looks like it was invalid formats on my part. I just encoded a XviD AVI and that works fine (but don't have audio).

Thanks

I, too, got rovi (tv listings) to work (with firmware upgrade, 08 I think), but avi files still don't. Since BD Rebuilder can now generate a mkv file, I'll try that in a day or two and report back.

I'm pleased to say that I have Serviio up and running. Everything I've tried (MP4, WMV, MPG, MKV. MP3, WMA, JPG) works. Only AVI not tested as I don't have a fully supported test AVI file.

Also I had some success with J. River Media Center. Still working on a few issues.... will report back later.

I posted more in the Samsung AllShare FAQ . Be good if others can provide feedback on what works for them.

I just picked up the BD-C5500 and no matter what I do I cant get it to connect with my Windows 7 PC. I've tried everything I can possibly think of.

The network connection is fine, plugged into a Linksys router for the network and the player is connecting to the internet fine as when I first turned it on I got the Firmware update.

From my windows box I can ping the IP for the BD-C5500 unit with no problems. For some reason it just wont recognize any of my shares or anything. I've tried setting up standard share folders, I've tried the Samsung PC Share utility, nothing.

No firewalls are involved so I'm lost. I've been running SageTV on this PC and streaming it through a MediaMVP unit to my old television and that locates the network and server just fine so I know I'm open to network traffic.

Anyone have any ideas of some things I can try or some step by step settings as this is really becoming frustrating. I can play from a USB drive, I can cannot network this with Windows 7.....

If you are using Windows 7, you need to set your media sharing option so that the Samsung is allowed to share the media on the PC. I think this is done through the windows media player. Turn on the Samsung and then go to the PC and make sure your network can "see" the samsung and you've allowed it to share the media on the PC.

Hope this helps.

I did a firmware update today and this thing popped up on my player. Played around with it a little bit. Seems like just TV listings. Am I missing something? What would someone use this service for, if you already have TV listings through your cable/sat box??

I suppose that if one doesn't have cable or satellite it might be useful, but I have no need for it.

Yep - at least 2 or 3 a week. So far its played everything without and audio/video issues. My last player (BD-P1500) used to have frequent freezes or stutters..... so really pleased so far with this one. Plus loving being able to decodes DTS-HD.

Will be buying two more playes in June and so far looking like be 2 more of these.

That is great to hear...I bought the C6500 and the C5500 this past week, great deals on them at Frys.

I had the P1200 and a friend has the P1600...TONS of problems with both of them...freezing or simply not playing discs (both BD and SD). I'm hopeful for brighter days with the new Samsungs!

New Firmware released

Ver.1010.4 Apr.14.2010
- Improve specific BD title''s playback capability.
- Improve BD WISE capability.
- Improve KMV capability.
- Improve Network Setting capability.
- Improve OSD String

I'm going to update later a see what's changed interested in the BD WISE (think thats the AllShare - WiselinkPro?) and what the Network Setting changes are.

[EDIT] BD Wise = With other compatible Samsung components, BD Wise, which is an inter-connectivity function, enables you to either (On mode) output the original resolution of the BD or DVD disc to the TV, or (Off mode) output a fixed resolution according to the resolution previously set.

I installed it. It fixed one of the two matroska problems I was aware of - video is no longer jerky on files with more than one audio track. Embedded subtitles still dont work tho.

They also haven't fixed the one other main problem that affects me - component output is forced to 4:3 480i after the intro screen if HDMI connected to receiver for Audio. I called them about that on february 23rd and they said they'd fix it in firmware, but I've now upgraded firmware twice and still stuck at 4:3 (on a 16:9 hdtv). I guess more people called to complain about the jerky video.

Brit, where did you find those firmware release notes?

I can't say I noticed this player being noisy during insertion of disc or playback.... but the player is in a closet and not out in open to hear.

I will say I'm impressed with the start up speed and how quick it plays DVD/BR. Much better than the BD-P1500 I had.

I'm using a 1 TB external drive OK. There is no size limit that I can tell.

I am having trouble playing m2ts files that play fine on the PS3. Does anyone have a list of the video files that this unit can play?

It plays AVCHD dvd's, but not the same stream files. I can't find out why. Any ideas?

What kind of AVI files are you trying to stream?

Are you using the Windows 7 Media Player to share the files over the network?

That's the list for this player? That'd odd, cuz I have video files with other extensions that it does play (for example .tp which are over-the-air hdtv mpeg-2 transport streams), and I have mpg that are mpeg-1 that they say unsupported... although I've only tested this thru PCSM, not on disc/usb.

Anyone had mpeg-1 work?

Someone might have answered this already but I have a question about remote operation of the BD-6500. I have a new Samsung LCD that also has the allshare option (I think that's what it's called anyways). Can I control my blu-ray player through the TV? I ask because I am going to stash the player in a media cabinet which will block the IR eye. I was wondering if I could simply control it through the TV's IR sensor if I set the options up correctly.

Thanks for any input!!

I got the 5500 over a month ago and there is one quirk that is giving me fits; I have to get up off the couch and actually put a BD in the slot when it opens.

I've tried rebooting the player with the remote. I've tried yelling at it. I've even called my son in from outside to see if he can help.... I'm at a loss

I'm hoping a FW update will take care of the issue soon or I may have to get off the couch and return this player.
