I got my 33FD Monday, played 2 BD's I rented and tried a DVD just to try out upscalling. Played some CD's too.
I like it so far. Definately a step up from my old Samsung P1500.
I have an SC-27, so i wanted to try out PQLS. It took me a while to get it going, I had to enable Kuro and set the 33 to PCM. Yes it works, it uses the decoder in the player and sends multichannel PCM to the AVR which then outputs it unprocessed. Great for purists, and its in keeping with the purist approcah Pio-Elite has been using for many years. (My old VSX-79 has a Direct-Line mode).
PQLS worked great for 2 channel CD's, (but you need the TV on or you get HDCP error).
For DTS-MA, I prefer decoding in the AVR and using THX.
Predators - sound was great, video was great sometimes, scenery shots were beautiful, (but not alien enough), effects a little lacking.
Girl who Played with Fire, soundtrack needed help. And they overdid the bass for dramatic effect, not always at the right time.
Upscaling looked good, but still not HD. Didn't expect more.
The firmware update worked, it added the netflix, which doesn't work in Canada And I added a 2G USB, (9.99@wallyworld) Youtube might be useful to somebody, but i have a computer if i want youtube. And the RSS feed is nothing but pioneer adverts, again, useless to me.
Reprogramming my Harmony was quite quite a chore, turned out I had to put in delay after power on, before selecting inputs.
Overall, quite happy. My only complaint is the blue/white center light is brighter than on the SC-27, so they don't quite match.
I got about what I expected. I expect good picture, good sound, all the time.
