The Elite model's number might be incorrect by the time it hits stateside.

Big features over 310/23:

- Wi-Fi Ready
- Youtube access (no mention of Netflix but makes sense on European release
- Quick-start feature

Big features over 310/23:
- 3D via fw (HDMI 1.3)

Uh oh. 3D upgradeable through FW later this year. Sound familiar 51FD owners?

My predictions about iphone integration (like the AVR's) are true. Cool stuff.

True, but 3D is the least important feature for me right now.

The good news is these models appear to be unique Pioneer designs with PQLS, iphone integration and overall aesthetics. My pennies will be saved.

LOL.......as a 51 owner (purchased Aug 08) that was my thought also. I will never again purchase a player based on promised future features or specs (remember how fast the 51/05s were suppose to be?).

It will be interesting to see what these new Pioneer players actually deliver.

I don't think the 330/LX53 will be 3d enabled. That will probably be the 430 and LX54.

I thought 3D needed support in HDMI 1.4? I really don't care, but if 3D support can be done with HDMI 1.3, what hardware has been added that is not in current players that forbids a FW update for 3D?

Sony claims that HDMI 1.3 can do 3d, but not everything that the 1.4 spec requires (return audo/ethernet).

That's right, they claim the can do 3D in PS3. I'm not chomping at the 3D bit so I'm not keeping close watch.

Appearance wise, resembles the 320. Unless I missed it in the specs, looks like the 330 won't have 7.1 analogs out.

If that's the case, I can't see the 330 being worth any more than $150, especially since June is a fair bit away and BD player prices are plummeting.

keep in mind the european 320 only has stereo analogues, while the north american has mch. would not be surprised if the same holds true for the 330.

Do you think that the 330 would have Netflix streaming and Amazon On Demand?

UK Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-BDP-...9307697&sr=8-2

no MC analogs for a cool $325 U.S. dollars

I'm having a harder time understanding Pioneer these days.

i would reckon it will if it has youtube advertised in europe. netflix wants its streaming in every device they can think of. it's becoming more and more a standard feature these days with only marantz, denon, onkyo, pioneer, oppo and a few other high ends avoiding it.

only thing that spooks me is quick-start - sounds very sharp-esque, but the layout of the players seems to be very pioneer (center-mounted drive).

Really not a bad thing taking one of the strengths of your CE partner and addressing one of the few weaknesses of the Pio line of players. I look forward to the release of the new players, will be interesting to see just what type of quality and features we can expect in the future from Pio.

And looking at Amazon a Panasonic DMP-BD65 is $147 in the US and $280 in the UK. Pioneer or not, whenever you see a price listed for a non-US market, you can cut that in half and get a decent estimate of the price an American consumer would pay.

In some parts of the world Pioneer does market itself as more of a boutique brand than it does in the US. Here in Australia the RRP of the BDP-320 is.. wait for it.. US$641.

The 330 and the 320 look to have the same style.

The LX24 however appears to have the new look of the European mid-range. Glossy black on top, brushed metal black on the bottom half. Same as the VSX-2020 amplifier.

winston9332,

The article states "They are not 3D compatible, but both models supporting this feature will follow later this year." I personally have no use for 3D for the foreseeable future, but to introduce two new players that do not have this functionality and can’t be upgraded via firmware doesn’t make sense. Then to come out with subsequent models later in the year that will support 3D is criminal. Can Pioneer afford to take such a chance given the 51FD debacle? I guess Pioneer will be double dipping.

I translated the Euros (MSRP) to dollars and it's approximately $400.00 and $530.00, respectively. I assume these European versions won’t have 7.1 analog. I would venture we can knock off a minimum of a third off these prices.

I see another “Quick-start” mode. How come other manufacturers are producing faster players without a Quick-start mode and Pioneer can’t?

I took this quote “boasting the latest technology in terms of image but integrating functions primarily absent in the competition.” What functions are they talking about that are absent in the competition?

I don't see a compelling reason to buy either of these players in their current state, unless in June this is your 1st player and you want Pioneer. I think the current pricing for the BDP-320 and BDP-23FD are better purchases.

There are existing players that offer the features that Pioneer is touting and features that the Pioneers are lacking namely 3D or the ability to upgrade to 3D if that is part of your buying decision.

Willie

Willie,

Completely misread this line:

They are not 3D compatible, but both models supporting this feature will follow later this year.

I thought it was the rough translation at first that the 330 and 24 will support this feature later this year. If your interpretation is correct, I totally agree with you that there is no reason to upgrade from the 320/23 barring some monumental increase in speed or dvd quality (320 is pretty damn good now, so i struggle to see the latter being true).

I will certainly test one early on and let us know how it stacks up agains the the 320/23.

Apologies for any confusion - must have misread this completely.

Prediction is 330 will debut for $299, quickly hit $199 street and the 24 will debut at $499 and street for $300 quickly.

Seems a bit goofy for a press release that they would suggest newer, better modesl will be out shortly...

winston9332,

Now that I revisit the quote "They are not 3D compatible, but both models supporting this feature will follow later this year." I guess it could be interpreted that these models will be upgradeable to 3D via firmware. I guess the use of the word "compatible" allows Pioneer to hedge their bets. I guess it was to simple for Pioneer to just state like other manufacturers that the players will or will not be 3D capable with a firmware upgrade in the future.

If the players are upgradeable, then this lends credence to the rumblings that 3D playback can be achieved using HDMI 1.3, since these players are HDMI 1.3.

I'm not sure it's Pioneer hedging their bets so much as getting a proper interpretion of the original French text. The mention of being HDMI 1.3 does make you wonder though.

Can't wait for the 25FD:

1. Bluray capable
2. SACD and DVD-A
3. Burr Brown 1796 DAC with 5.1 analog
4. $300-$400

Direct competitor to OPPO...............Pioneer once again raises the level of HT excitement.....

.......AND THEN I WOKE UP..........

ok, back to reality...
