This BDP appears to be priced similarly to the Sony S570 and Panasonic BD85, and while those playersboth have extensive threads here, the Yamaha unit is conspicuously absent. In fact, there has been barely any discussion on it anywhere on the web.

Why is everyone ignoring this unit?

Oh, it was written wrong.

Not much of a thread though. So my question still remains, why is everyone ignoring this unit?

I have a Yamaha BD-S1065 which apart from being a bit slow to load gives an awesome picture and sound. But also seems ignored as well. I have tried searching through the iPhone app for the official thread but it doesn't seem to find one.

I'm having a go at this too so any further information would help.

Although it is possible to connect an external HDD to this player, the HDD has to be formatted to FAT32 standard, otherwise the player will not be able to access it. That leads to a major problem; the maximum file size supported by FAT32 is equal to 4Gb. That might be plenty for lower resolutions but a BD rip or other HD content is likely to be larger than that. One way to get around that is to break the file into separate splits using, for example, mkvtoolnix. This is as far as I've got to. I copy the splits on a USB memory stick and play them using the player. The only problem is I can't get the full HD stuff to display correctly. The quality is degraded and the footage pixelate quite badly. I have a hunch that is caused by my slow memory stick.

Any further help would be appreciated.

Received a Yamaha BD-S667 instead of a BD-S677. Should I keep it?

This has to do with the chipset(s) between the two players. Features aside.

I ordered a refurbished 677, but was sent a older 667 which is discontinued by mistake. I have the option of keeping it. The 667 came out in 2010 and the 677 in 2012, but is still current. I don't care about 3D that the 677 has, I do like the flexibility of component outs of the 667 and Netflix that the newer (current) one does not have.

My concern is the ability to handle problem discs that have a tendency to stutter, skip, freeze or completely lockup the player that I have been reading about with many players. Features aside, anyone who owns either have any comment either from 1st (or 2nd) hand experience can shed some light here.

Abundant OTA television is what makes this country different from all others. Lets keep it this way. If you like Wi-Fi so much, OTA fits right in. After all, it is wireless.
