My 530 keeps rebooting every few minutes for the past couple of days. I've had this player for 2 years now. I tried downgrading the software to .242 but it didn't help. Any ideas?

Is your 530 CEC-enabled with your TV? My 530 turns on automatically when I switch to that input on my TV; and once turned on via CEC (Aquos Link, in my case), it will keep turning itself on again even after I turn it off as long as I am on that input. So I have to switch input or turn off TV before turning off 530 for 530 to stay off.

If your 530 is rebooting while you are watching a movie then my guess is that your 530 is dying. Lower end LG blu ray players are known to have subpar capacitors that will give out. Check out the Amazon reviews. It's a 50/50 proposition that LG 530 continue to work past a year. FWIW, my 530 is my second unit. My first died shortly after a year mark. It simply didn't turn on.

I had lockups when scanning in reverse on a regular DVD in the BD530 Blu-Ray. System would freeze and the only solution was to pull the plug and re-plug it. It all started when I allowed a s/w upgrade to BD.5.277. After a lot of frustration and looking, I finally went to the LG support site and downloaded the BD_5200M50.zip file. I unzipped the file and copied it to a CD. Then I did an initialize to factory settings. Then, I inserted the CD and closed the drawer. The player recognized the CD and brought up the update window. Even though this was a backward change to BD.242.00 the player ran it as an upgrade. I tried a lot of fooling around afterword and was not able to make this .242 s/w lockup. So much for upgrades. I'm leaving it where it is. PROBLEM SOLVED! smile.gif

Hope they don't try to sneak in Cinavia in a FW update. That happened in a Samsung BluRay player I have, and they didn't provide a way to revert.

Thanks for the update, I've just downloaded it, but haven't installed it yet because I'm not sure if it's a wise idea to update them. Has it added anything, or fixed some of the problems I've read about with the most recent updates? (And I assume this is for the 530 as well, right?)

I have two BD-530s (love them both). I'll keep the update file just to have in case I ever do want to update them... but am wondering what everyone here did (if anyone still reads this thread), and what their thoughts are on whether it's wise to update or not (since you can never go back unless you have the old firmware).

Thanks!

Also, I haven't had any problems with 5.279.

OK, let me summarize what I learned from this thread!

The front line support at LG did not know this, and I see a number of people had the problem of upgrading BD-530 firmware.

I figured it out and wanted to let folks know.

I connected a LG BD-530 Blu Ray to the Internet for the first time.

It was running BD.4.784.00.C
It tried to auto upgrade to BD.5.277.00.C over the internet.

It downloaded, but the upgrade failed. The upgrade hung as it started after it downloaded. I got stuck at the screen that said "Updating, Please wait, Auto Power Off"

I tried it every way (USB, Internet, Disc), and it would not work.

Finally, from a 3rd party site (provided at post 412 in the thread, thanks!) I got a copy of update BD5.227.00.C. I put it on USB and it worked.

After that I was able to upgrade to BD.5.277.00.C.

So - LG should probably put the 5.227 release on the website, or fix the 5.277 release so it can update the 4.784 release.

I called support at 800-243-0000 - they are sending me an update disc, but I don't know what will be on it.

In summary:

4.784 to 5.277 update fails. (The auto update)

To update, the steps need to be

4.784 to 5.227 to 5.277.

Hope this can help someone.

AVSForum was a lot of help.

5.227 firmware package: http://www32.zippyshare.com/v/25854786/file.html
Found from the AVS forum thread (post 412) http://www.avsforum.com/t/1282080/lg-bd-530/390

If you like the REALLY old firmware, 4.874 is at http://www25.zippyshare.com/v/47426114/file.html

What a funny coincidence. By chance, I tried to update the firmware a couple of days ago. As previous posters have mentioned, I got stuck at updating now phase as well. Me, not being a quitter, tried three times before realizing that I was being stupid.

I read the postings and may be not being able to update the firmware may have been a luck break with all the problems with the new firmware.

There was nothing wrong with my player. It plays everything I throw at it. I should have followed that advice about not updating the firmware unless there was a problem. "If it ain't broke..."

P.s. My driver got updated but my software didn't. What's the difference? Kinda strange how LG breaks down the firmware into two parts: driver and software.

I can't seem to revert back to 4.784 from 5.227, anyone has any advice? When I put the UBS drive in, nothing happens, but if I put the 5.227 rom, it does try to install it. Main issue I'm having is, fast forwarding or reversing freezes my player. Or does anyone have the 5.277 rom? I can't seem to locate that one.

5.277 should be what downloads if you tell the player to "auto update" from the web. Can you connect the player to your network and run the auto update?

Hmm, 5.279 is the latest version on the web site at http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-BD530# Not sure if the auto update server has a different version.

LG_BD_5200M50.ROM

This is the last rom I updated with, and my player has been locking up since, I'm trying to revert to the previous one or if there's one after that one. But it won't let me revert back to the older firmware, is there a trick to it? And yes, when I connect to the net, this is the rom that pops up.
