Check the sony website. The 580 lacks the onboard storage. There is no mention of it in the booklet, nor is there a footnote describing the storage anywhere to be found on the box or on the promotional website. I tried both the Social Network and Inception last night and both told me that I lacked sufficient storage to access the BD-Live features. Once I inserted my thumbdrive, I had no problem accessing BD-Live content.
As for the codecs, Xvid ".avi" support was added and was not present in the S570 - per the manual which can be found @ page 33 Here
The s580 manual can be found @ page 30 Here
I hope this information is helpful.
Lastly, the xrossmediabar is a lil sluggish on the 580, but that might be due to infant firmware.
More bad news. Seems like the wireless card was downgraded in the 580 as well.
2.4 GHz band: Channels 1-11
5 GHz band: Channels 36-64, 100-140,
Wireless (BDP-S580/BX58 only)
Wireless LAN standard:
IEEE 802.11 b/g/n
2.4 GHz band: Channels 1-1
Losing out on the 5 Ghz band means less speed in the long run for those with dual-band routers. Now I'm getting disappointed for waiting for the 580.
