But when you turn it on it surprised me it loaded so fast. My old pioneer loaded avater in like 5 minutes (latest update) this one did it in about 20 sec. The video is just good. Dont see any difference in my old and this player... Its just your tv that makes the difference i think.

The sound is very good. Its lively and can give a good bang when it needs to do.

I played some cd's but i dont have a big variety of music. It is just good like i expected.

I dont have super audio cd and im not interested in the 3d and internet features.
It runs with B&W802d, classe ca5200, ssp800

Im almost sure i will get this player. Except for the build i didnt find any things i really didnt like.

Maarten1,

You start off by saying awesome, but your comments are somewhat lackluster after that.

Nice setup.

You're right. its not very clear like that. Dont get me wrong. I just didnt see or hear things i didnt like. Overall its very good. Dont know what you want more from a player. It just does what he's expected to do for a 999 player.
I cant think of an other player in this price range that is much better.

So i wil recommend this one to you.

I am considering this player along with Oppo BDP-95. Was the Oppo ever under consideration? If so, why the Marantz? I presently own an Oppo BDP-83SE and I've been following the BDP-95 in that respective thread. Though I will probably be auditioning the Oppo soon I am most impressed by the dedicated CD and/or SACD players it has been compared to and how well it has faired against players costing upto 10 times its cost including the Marantz SA-7S1 and SA-11S2.

Hopefully someone can offer some similar comparisons with the UD7006. I know listening is subjective, but I do like hearing what other owners think.

Still havent gotten the networking to work on this, Marantz has not been particularly helpful so far, telling me to not have a disk in when trying to update the firmware, when I cant even try to update the firmware because I CAN'T CONNECT TO THE NETWORK...

I also have the 7005 receiver which I have been happy with but would really like Marantz to be a bit more responsive on this problem.

So after a few emails back and forth to Marantz, they have concluded the unit is defective and I am sending it back to the seller to exchange. Hopefully this one works better, as I want to explore how well the netwrok capabilities operate, I like the unit so far otherwise as far as picture quality and sound.

I'm pulling the trigger today and ordering the UD7006. I can't find much online comparisons between this and the Oppo 95. I can get the UD7006 at a substantial discount since my friend is a Marantz dealer, but he doesn't have any in stock and are back ordered. I may have to wait more than a month to get it.

Since I'll be passing the signal via the 5.1 cables, D/A is very important to me. I do have a good selection of SACD and DVD-a disks. I would pay more for the Oppo if I knew it was better, but I just can't find that answer anywhere.

After receiving the Marantz, I may order an Oppo as well to do a head-to-head comparison. I can always return the Oppo for a minimal shipping fee back if I like the Marantz better. Or I can turn around and sell the Marantz if I feel the Oppo is better. This was a really tough decision.

I remember the Oppo 95 was available on Amazon as well, but I just checked today and it's no longer available through Amazon. Wonder why?

I look forward to hearing your comments on the Marantz. I presently own the Oppo and considered the Denon DBP-2012UDCI in addition to the Marantz. I think the Marantz will hold its own musically, but the Oppo just offered more for my setup and needs and the Denon and Marantz are hard to come by and I couldn't wait indefinitely.. In the end any comparison will come down to preference. Good look with the Marantz.

UPDATE: I did a quick review of the Marantz UD7006, but removed it since my pre/pro was having issues (subwoofer input not working). I'll have to send it in for repairs. I originally complained about the UD7006's bass management, but that was unfair since it was my pre/pro that had problems and wasn't passing the LFE signal. I'll test it out again once I get my pre/pro back...probably a couple of weeks. I have deleted my review till them.

I got the lord of the rings extended edition on blu-ray last week. I diddnt struggle to watch the 9+ hours. The sound and picture is really amazing!!

With the two towers i needed to update the player. He didnt load the disk and got stuck after the first commercial every time i played it. The update fixed it. Must be the huge content on the disks.

The loading times are very fast. Not more then 30 sec from inserting the disk until the main menu.

Remembers me of my old pioneer who needed more than 2 minuntes

I still dont regret investing my 1000 €

I have had this player for 4 weeks now and it is awesome (for the lack of any other word).
I had a Samsung BD-P1400 previously and i was fed-up with the loading times of the disc (Avatar Extended 3-Disc took roughly 5 minutes to load) and was on look out for an alternate player. Had 2 major criteria... 1. Multichannel for Audio 2. Load times for the disc.

Marantz UD7006 is perfect on both. I have connected it via Onkyo R940 (older AV with no HDMI), B&W 684 series speakers and 52" Sharp Full HD LCD.

It plays all formats of any disc...VCD, DVD, SACD, HDCD, BR and the sound output has improved dramatically. I feel the sound stage expanded and the B&W subwoofer responds magnificently to LFEs.
Even while i play songs from the USB or over the network media palyer, the sound is awesome. Clarity is amazing and seperation is amazing.

The load times have improved too. 3-5 seconds on Blu-rays and the BD-Live(my first experience as Samsung did not have the capability) is cool and fast. I have already updated the firmware over the ethernet and it was smooth.

I have not tested the Oppo but i would recommend this player.

Another reason to get the Oppo 95 over this is the Oppo is easier to make region free.
I so much want to have this Marantz to match my Marantz NR1501 Receiver.
I bought the from the Marantz line because its the only slimline DTS-HD Master Audio Receiver I know off (AB amplifier class operation).

After dealing with some major pre-amplifier problems, I have finally replaced my pre/pro with a McIntosh MX-119. So I can finally evaluate my UD7006 properly.

After several weeks of testing, I am very disappointed. Considering this unit's major plus is the D/A converter, Marantz should have known many owners would use it's 8-channel output and need configuration capabilities (rather than using the receiver or pre/pro's capabilities). First, the crossover point is fixed at 80Hz. You can't adjust it. Bass management capabilities are subject to one check box...that's it. No other configuration allowed.

As of this writing, YouTube still isn't available. So the only thing you can get is Netflix. Personally, I don't care about we capabilities because I have a HTPC, so this wasn't a big deal for me.

Pop in a movie and watch it from beginning to end and you won't see a problem. Pop in a concert Blu-Ray and try to change tracks (specially quickly, pressing the "skip track" button several times) and you'll see this machine is prone to lots of lock-ups. You have to pull the power cord to reset. I love concert movies and I do jump around tracks. With this Marantz, it's almost impossible to do that. You'll get fed up after the 3 time in 1/2 hour that you have to reset the machine.

The good thing about this machine is it's sound and picture. I found the D/A to do an exceptional job in producing the audio. It absolutely blows away my old Pioneer Elite as far as sound quality. This alone is this unit's redeeming feature. Another major plus is load time of Blu-Ray discs. It is very fast in loading discs, which is great considering how many times you need to reboot it while watching concert DVD's!

Quality of Unit: The unit seems poorly put together. Sometimes the front panel buttons don't react to the first push and need a "harder" push. This forces this light unit to move as you press the eject button. The disc drawer also makes a popping noise when coming out.

Overall, I think Marantz did a poor job of designing a $1,000 Blu-Ray player. It just doesn't feel like a $1K player. Too many bugs in the system. I would expect a small company like Oppo to have lots of bugs and updates, but not a large company like Marantz. I don't have any experience with the Oppo (yet), but I'm seriously thinking about selling the UD7006. I'm just not happy with it due to all the bugs and very limited configuration capabilities.

Hello

I am thinking to buy marantz UD7006 to match my AVR Marantz SR7005, do you recommend this player? I can see there some negative feedback from some users in the posts at this thread, can you specify if it is major or minor, please? And I got special offer for UD7006 about $820, does it worth it?

It had some patches lately that fixed the bugs.

I have no playback problems anymore.

For me it is still one of the best players under 1000

Hi all,

Please, does the UD7006 play .ISO files, either from the network or from an attached HDD ?

Thanks,

My YouTube video of the Marantz UD7006:

I did this review about a month ago and didn't have time to post it. Since then, I sold the UD7006 due to issues discussed in the video. Hope it helps someone.

Great review!

I totally agree with you. I had problems with lock ups too.
Last month marantz repaired my player. It had some bad sound silencers that made the player shake. (hard to explain) After the repair i had 1 lock up. Its mostly with new movies that just came out. But i think it was just a matter of patching. They shouldnt release it so soon. Its afterall a 1000 euro player...

Ya, I never thought a company like Marantz could be so sloppy. They just didn't do enough testing before releasing this unit. It would have a lot of potential as a great competitor in it's price range if they had just put a bit more thought into it and fixed the bugs.

What's an SACD-R??? Recordable SACD? No such thing exists (that I'm aware of). But the UD7006 does play SACD just fine per my tests.

He means a DVD-R copy of the DSD layer, which does exist.

Hi,

New to this forum. I've had nothing but problems with OPPO quality. I had the OPPO 83SE and it failed after less than three months. I had the OPPO 95, and it failed after on year. I'm through with OPPO. I hoping for beter quality with Marantz. Marantz has a 3-yr warranty vs. 1-yr for OPPO. Sounds like Marantz is standing behind their product more with this warranty.

Have you contacted Oppo? They are very good about fixing things out of warranty and they cover the shipping both ways. I am speaking from experience and the many postings that I have seen on the various Oppo threads. My 83 was 6 months out of warranty when they repaired it free of charge.
