You maycall me a traitor to the pure Pioneer branded player tradition if you want to, but I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the LX55's American relative because I really need PQLS output with SACD converted to high resolution PCM. Also, as long as I can achieve 480i via Component, I'll be able to have my VSX-32 receiver upscale/upconvert it via its Marvel video conversion features.

Look at the picture above - no component outputs

Big C, I'm on a similar boat like you. As long as the design is by Pioneer, then I'll buyu one too. What I don't want is a rebadge.

PQLS to me is very important because I can really hear the difference it makes.

Winston, no offence taken. Just a reminder that I'm sight impaired and have trouble looking at tiny onscreen photos. But thanks for that important headsup!

Dave, I wish it wasn't going to be a rebadge, but if it's the only way to get BD, SACD, and PQLS in one player, it'll be my only choice.

Do these players at least have Composite? If so, at least I'll be able to achieve 480i. If there is no way of achieving 480i on these players, I'll have to stick with my BDP-23FD and DV-58AV two-player solution.

I wonder if the 55 has these then? That is a must for me.

As far as a matching Blu-ray player we have those coming as well (The are very nice, and for your reference I use an OPPO BDP-93 right now, but will soon be replacing it with our new high end model).

Chris Walker (walkamo) just posted in the sc-55/57 thread and gave this little tidbit about the new BD players. Nothing more was said. Additionally, we haven't seen anything showing the front or back of the American Elite.

P.S. Chris will be at CEDIA.

Isn't CEDIA in September? If so, we still have some waiting to do unfortunately! Also, unfortunately, some of Sharp's BD players (especially the BD-HP75) don't have Composite, Component, or 480i via HDMI. So if that's any indication, it doesn't look good!

I just checked the manuals for the Sharp BD-HP75U and BD-HP90U. No analog video or 480i whatsoever! I'm hoping that if Pioneer rebadges these players, they will at least consider adding some way to obtain 480i, whether via worst of all Composite, better yet Component, or best of all, HDMI. The reason I want 480i is so that I could have my receiver's Marvell handle both deinterlacing and upscaling. 480p will only allow the Marvell to upscale, but not deinterlace. I understand Sharp doesn't have the best deinterlacing solution in their BD players.

Well, yeah, it is in September, but I mentioned that to lessen the fears of the folks who think Chris is no longer with Pioneer.

If he is replacing the oppo 93 with the new elite, then it sure as heck have your [named] basic features and 7.1 analog outs. I couldn't imagine a player that had no way to output 480i, especially with its pricepoint. If so, disappointment would overcome me.

+1

I have been following the SC57 thread and saw his post. As you noted, if his reference BD player is the Oppo 93 and he is excited about the new Pioneer BD players, it get me a little excited as well and makes me guess that maybe the new players aren't Sharp rebadges. I can at least hope they aren't. I wish he would come to one of the Pioneer BD threads and give us some insight.

NICE! It is about time they finally realized that the Sharp rebadges were not cutting it, especially for us loyal Pioneer fans! My HD1 might finally be replaced sometime in the near future. I still might be a little hesitant though at first...might have to wait until a few reviews from owners once they come out.

Then I can't waitfor the new players! My DV-58AV is being picky about when it plays certain discs correctly. It was manufactured in October, 2007. I bought it in 2008. The player is four years old and its two-year warranty expired last year. It's sad to see it die. However, it looks like I'll be able to retire my BDP-23FD and DV-58AV and replace them with the American version of the BDP-LX55 as a one-player solution! I just wish they'd be released before the summer is over.

Sticking with the HD1 might have been a ridiculous decision, in all honesty. Pretty much any model that any reputable manufacturer (including Sharponeer) makes today puts the HD1 to shame. The only thing on its side is build quality, which is, I guess, an important aspect; you've had it for years and it still works.

While I agree with you on the second statement, these new players should change that. They are purely pioneer, not rebadged sharps.

Just did some catch up, and read the Pioneer employee's comments in the audio forum. I have a Yamaha 1010 on order, but intend to cancel and await the new Elite player.

Why is it a ridiculous decision? I purchased it in December of '06. I was one of the first 10 people to purchase it directly from the Pioneer store back when they were open in CA for $1500. It has been ROCK SOLID, never had a single issue, played a few hundred BDs as well as many DVDs! Sure it is a little slow, but who cares really? I don't need/want BD Live/Picture-in-Picture. The only thing I miss is decoding of DTS-MA, but that is not that big of a deal anyway. Other than that, why would I replace the HD1? There has been nothing that has come along that can really beat his player, especially since I paid $1500 and I would end up with nothing if I tried to ever sell it. The 09FD was a possibility, but for me I would not be gaining too much, except a lighter wallet. I was bascially waiting for Pioneer to get their act together again and now is the perfect time since I am looking for another player to move into my den and out of my theater. The new Elite might be a good replacement in my theater...we shall see!

Go Celtics!

The HD1 is the one that puts Sharponeer to shame. The Sharponeer added edge enhancement that can not be disabled. The HD1 doesn't have that problem.

You can say that again...those Sharp rebadges were/are attrocious! The HD1is one ofthe best built BD players! No it is not the fastest and is only a BD 1.0 spec player, is missing built in DTS-MA decoders, but has an awesome PQ and is rock solid.

Yup! I still have my HD1, along with BDP-05, BDP-09, BDP-23, PS3 slim, and Oppo 93.
Regardless how slow it is, I like the HD1 the most because it's built like a tank (almost like BDP-09) AND I don't need the remote to do everything on the HD1.
