I did a little research on my SC-35 and it's firmware can only be updated by taking it to an authorized Pioneer service center. Well, at least there is a solution. That's something, I guess.

The manual for the 43FD is unclear on this and only makes reference to USB "devices" and MKV files, etc.
Essentially I would want to connect an external USB hard drive to the back of the unit.

Thanks.

Can i pls confirm if ISO files can be read and played?

Thanks!

How can new firmware for Pioneer receivers fix the dropouts if I have the same problem and my 440 is connected to a Sony receiver?

That´s a good question...
I suggest to immediately contact Pioneer EU (I´m assuming you´re in EU since you have the BDP-440) and tell them about this...

In the case of the Pioneer receivers, they actually power themselves off and then back on again...basically a power toggle. It's a little more serious than just a dropout.

However, that being said I'm still a little skeptical of a fix on the receiver's firmware side instead of the player.

true...
I`m curious if it doesn`t include 2011 Pio AVRs, according to what they said...
Has anybody such AVR so we can confirm this? (VSX-1021, 1121, 2011 Elites...)

Lots of fun with the BDP-440... I am really impressed! Yesterday in about an hour of a BluRay disc playback I experienced again the two main faults I have reported earlier:

- sudden disappearance of any data on the HDMI. The Pioneer display shows time advancing however the receiver doesn't get any video or any audio. Switching off and back on doesn't cure the problem; the only way I have found to re-establish the signal is to disconnect the Ethernet cable.

- total crash while ejecting a disc. The box doesn't respond to any command via remote or front panel. It cannot even be switched off. The only solution to reset the player is to disconnect the power cable.

I have experienced these problems at least two or three times in less than two weeks so I cannot believe that they were not found by the Pioneer testers. Most probably they were found but ignored. Or perhaps Pioneer doesn't even have testers?

another Pioneer EU response from today:

"Sorry for the delayed reply. The update for the VSX should be performed by
an authorized service center from Pioneer. It is not possible to carry-out
this update yourself as it requires some jigs which are not available to
end consumers. Therefore the update is also not published on our website
for this matter.

As for the remote responsiveness, we actually opened up the remote of the
BDP-LX55 to check. The problem is not with the unit itself but rather with
the remote control. As this is hardware related it will be unlikely that it
can be solved. When you point the remote straight to the unit there should
not be any problem with it, only when you hold it up or down. Otherwise you
can always use any other Pioneer control or universal remote as
countermeasure."

I can understand the first part with the AVR´s firmware, however the poor remote responsiveness issue doesn´t seem to be in remote itself...I tried the learned remote from VSX-1120 before (which normally acted pretty strong from whatever the angle and distance within my room), however, with my BDP-440, it acted as poorly as the player´s one (nothing acceptable but the precisely direct angle)...has anybody some different experience?

If the remote is the only problem with the bdp lx55,that i could handle.I got a decent remote for a 94txh,the 1 that came with the sc 27 avr on ebay new for $30(£25).So im thinking to offload my bdp-lx52 bd player with the original vsx-94txh control,as the control from the bdp-lx52 is an absolute gem, best control for a disc spinner i ever had,its a metal design with the best responce ever,i think its the original bdp lx71 design, not fully sure.So can anybody quote the A/V quality of the bdp lx55 or bdb 440 in regards to sync issues crashes &/or sound dropouts?Has a few op's got trouble free players, apart from the remote? Thanks in advance. Also It cud be a shallow IR reciever in the front of the players, causing poor remote detection, apart from that??

I'm having issues with my I control av2 app. Also. I have a the AVR-1012 and the BDP-140 Blu Ray player. The app works perfect for controlling the 1012, but will not even recognize the BDP-140. I have tried everything and nothing works. It's driving me nuts. Part of the reason for my purchase was that app and getting rid of my remotes. Someone please help?

Bad product shots are all I've seen so far, but the new look is very nice, and consistent across the range. They also match the new VSX and SC receivers.

BDP-140

BDP-440

BDP-LX55

BDP-140:
3D Playback
SACD Support
Network Functions (DLNA, YouTube etc...)
PC File Playback (DivX plus HD etc)
iControl AV2 Control App
Quick Response
Wi-Fi Connection (Via Optional Adaptor)
Sound Retriever Link
Stream Smoother Link

BDP-440 adds
PQLS Bitstream Multi-Channel
Aluminium Front Panel
IP Control

BDP-LX55 adds
QDEO Video Processor
Twin HDMI Outputs
RS232 Connection
High Grade Audio Parts
Armoured Chassis

This is all preliminary information only.

Judging by the specs, I think this year seems a lot more interesting. They tick all the requirement boxes for 3D, DLNA, networking.

SACD support not only in the high-end, but all the way down to the entry level player is a nice touch. That alone goes a fair way in separating the brand from the Panasonic/Samsung/LG brands towards an enthusiast market without alienating the mass market.

The LX / Elite model actually stands out this year. Twin HDMI is a proper high-end feature. Upgraded video processing is a proper high-end feature.

The weak model appears to be the mid-range BDP-440. Not much that distinguishes it from the entry-level BDP-140. If I'd been in charge I would probably have canned the wifi for the 140 just to set it apart. Or included the wifi dongle with the 440.

Estimated recommended retail prices
BDP-140 - $199
BDP-440 - $299
BDP-LX55 - $399-$499 (There's probably two Elite versions but only one LX)

I,m on the fence about bying an oppo -93 but I am a big pioneer Elite guy. Have an Elite 50 inch plasma display and an elite VSX-52 receiver. Now that I see these Blu ray players I might wait.

Am interested in what video processor they will be using. Does anyone know if you have a receiver with a Marvell processor in it and then your Blu ray has a similar or the same processor in it does this duplication improve the video signal more or does it not make any difference in picture quality. Do you know what I am trying to say/ask ?

Let your needs guide your purchasing decision. It is nice to be a Pioneer Elite fan (I have an Elite plasma and a BDP-05FD), but if the product falls short of expectations and requirements then you should buy the appropriate product. It all looks the same in my enclosed cabinet. Good luck on your purchasing decision.

I am having all the same problems and am very dissapointed! To top it off, I called Pioneer Tech support and got lied to and passed around to 4 different people. None of whom seemed to no anything about the product. I purchased an AVR-1012, and a BDP-140 for the airplay and IcontrolAV2 app. The BDP-140 will not connect to the app, and the AVR-1012 does something different everytime I turn it on. I will be returning both products and purchasing the Denon. Too bad, I have had great luck with Pioneer in the past. However, with the poor quality of the product and the even worse customer service, I'm done. Also, Tech support hours are 8:30-4:30 ???? What are they thinking, stay at home Moms are going to call to fix there AV equipment?????

I will pass this problem to solve it Pioneer because I
seems a serious problem.

I managed to hit this problem today trying to play Pat Metheny's Letter From Home (the remastered edition from a few years ago). The disc takes a long time to load and when it starts playing the sound is completely distorted in a metallic way.

Yet another problem that apparently Pioneer will never fix.

This BDP-440 is the worst piece of audio-video kit I have ever bought in my entire life.

I'd really love to be a messenger of the good news, unfortunately, as you've probably noticed, Pioneer staff use really strange form of communication...they usually hit me with some email all of a sudden, then I instantly reply to them hungry for more info and after that, they simply stop responding...
tell me about it, guys, I'm probably the one who is angrier than anyone..there should've been at least 2 updates already...the VSX-1121 is on its way here, the first thing I'm curious about is alleged no dropouts with the 2011 AVRs..
if it happens just once and there's no update resolving it within a month, I'm finally ready for Oppo 93..

most probably bad distribution. Don't forget that EU released the LX-55 almost 2 months earlier than US/CA. So it may just be a production pause created this problem. I know for a fact that several Pioneer subsidiaries deem this player as, and I quote verbatim, "nothing to write home about" which may yield to lower production quantity.

The upcoming replacement of LX55/53FD with 4K upconversion will be fun though.

IMHO the 4k upconversion will be a fun new feature to play with on the LX55/53FD replacement (scheduled for around late summer announcement).

@frantic: You can get a lot of BDP-LX55s here in Slovakia, though...no bad distribution whatsoever...I`ve also seen plenty of stores in CZ and AT having them, too...average price is cca 360 EUR

@David: Have you seen some actual info on the new 2012 Pio players? I don`t quite get it, though, why the hell these brands flood the market with new players every damn year, instead of taking a good care of existing ones and supporting them with a quality firmware updates?
