It has been ROCK SOLID, never had a single issue, played a few hundred BDs as well as many DVDs! Sure it is a little slow, but who cares really? I don't need/want BD Live/Picture-in-Picture. The only thing I miss is decoding of DTS-MA, but that is not that big of a deal anyway. Other than that, why would I replace the HD1? There has been nothing that has come along that can really beat his player, especially since I paid $1500 and I would end up with nothing if I tried to ever sell it. The 09FD was a possibility, but for me I would not be gaining too much, except a lighter wallet. I was bascially waiting for Pioneer to get their act together again and now is the perfect time since I am looking for another player to move into my den and out of my theater. The new Elite might be a good replacement in my theater...we shall see!

My bad. Can I rephrase that to "sticking with the HD1 would be a ridiculous decision." Heck, I've used my original ps3 and BDP-05 for forever. Also, I completely rescind my comment about the sharponeers being better; that was quite overboard.

What is dead can never die. Long live my 151!

Hopefully we will see some news on the elite soon, and I hope they drop it in at $399.

It probably can't. Very few can and there's very little reason for CEs to spend R&D funds on supporting a dying format.

Regardless how slow it is, I like the HD1 the most because it's built like a tank (almost like BDP-09) AND I don't need the remote to do everything on the HD1.

Yeah it is definitely a tank! Mine matches my older Elite 84TSX receiver as well!

No worries...I want to eventually replace the HD1 but as of now it is just stupid on my part to do that unless I am getting something just as reliable with a few more features.

$399 might be kind oif low for their Elite line, unless they are going to have 2 Elites like the past couple of years.

Go Celtics!

Wasn't the firs post saying 399 to 499? 499 is fine too, any higher than that no matter, just get an oppo.

I think Pioneer should be able to add DTS HD Master Audio to the BDP-HD1's firmware. That's a lossless format and you don't know what you're missing without it!

I plan on paying $500 as soon as I read the new manual. Whether it's made by Pioneer or whether it's a rebadge with Pioneer's PQLS and supports SACD playback, as long as I can achieve 480i for SD DVD playback, I'll definitely pull the trigger as soon as the new player is released. It's just a matter of waiting and waiting and waiting.

The HD1 will never be able to decode internally DTS-HD MA, it is a hardware thing. The HD1 does not have the hardware or the processor power to do it. MA takes a lot of power. The HD1 can do True HD and uncompressed PCM, same thing as MA just gets there in a different way. The HD1 can however do the full core of DTS, which is not much different than the full MA!

I did a search for "Pioneer Blu-ray Player CEDIA 2011" and I found this promising-sounding article! If this is true, then it looks like Pioneer might be somewhat returning to their glory days!

It would be nice to see Pioneer add some niche features that Oppo has neglected to, such as a Zune app for xbox/windows phone users and support for WMA lossless codec - and perhaps a nice DLNA interface. Just playing catch up might not be enough.

If its just a bunch of Pioneer specific features like PQLS and Elite TV handshaking, I think it might be a tough sell. I don't think Apple product control integration will get them that far with their target market, either. Plus these players will definitely have Cinavia builtin while the Oppo does not, another plus for the Oppo for enthusiasts.

Vote with your wallet. Don't buy Cinavia-infected Blu-ray Discs! Why pay a premium for pseudo-lossless audio damaged by an intrusive watermark in the audible spectrum?

These TV's will never be like the plasma Kuros! As far as their BD players someone posted a post from Chris Walker from Pioneer and stated that Sharp is not involved at all in their new 2011 lineup. That in itself sounds like a return to their glory days! Let's hope everything pans out.

I've said this before. Pioneer's best SD DVD players came out in 2007 (the DV-48AV, DV-58AV, and the DV-400V. I understand that the 2008-2010 makeovers (the DV-49AV, DV-410V, and DV-420V) were built cheeper. However, the one thing they all had in common was that they used the MediaTek system-on-chip solution. This solution made the players responsive and gave them faster power-up and load times. It even provided a nice deinterlacing/upscaling solution as well! I've heard that MediaTek went Blu-ray a while ago while Pioneer was making players such as the BDP-05FD, BDP-09FD, BDP-23FD, BDP-51FD and the BDP-320. If Pioneer would do what Oppo did and recycle their best SD players and just add 3D Blu-ray and PQLS, you'd have real winners!

I think Pioneer's best SD DVD player was DV-59AVi. It plays DVD close to Blu-Ray quilty.
Just my input.

Here is a little teaser before Cedia.

We will release all of the info about this and other players at Cedia on September 7th. Please do not call our customer service and ask them questions. They do not have any info yet..
