What's the margin on a less than $200 player? How many do you have to sell to pay your bills?

My guess is that the added streaming and disc type playback features don't add more than $50 or so to the cost of an Oppo. They pretty much come along for the ride with the drives and chipsets that Oppo uses. Most of the cost is in higher quality parts and better chassis and cases. Metal costs more than plastic.

Most of the cost of a 93 is in the video processor, the single most expensive component. 3-chip architecture is expensive, period.

I like my Oppo 93 very much but am hoping they can come out with a new one with much improved streaming functionality soon or just one with a large memory capacity and fast processor that is shipping soon but can be significantly improved via firmware updates down the road.

Not sure if this is possible, but I'd like the network functionality to be available faster. Seems less than ideal to turn on the player, wait about 20 seconds, go to the menu and find out you can't access your files or netflix for streaming.

I wasn't aware of the thread until now. My needs/wants have already been posted:

In no particular order:

- +1 on BD ISO network support

- much better browsing, searching by artist, genre, cover art, etc. for direct connect and network connect media

- Amazon VOD support

- maybe 4K support, depending on timeline

- you can never go wrong with faster startup, faster disk load, faster network throughput, ...

- personally, I think internet media is going to have to go to some kind of local caching scheme to allow higher quality video/audio, so follow whatever standards evolve there

Then again, with my HTPC up and running, I may not be needing a new player for a while.

- it can output audio and video from both hdmi ports at the same time
[/QUOTE]

To clarify (I am purchasing a BDP-93) - it currently supports audio over one HDMI output and video over the other HDMI output simultaneously - right?

Your request is for an upgrade allowing both audio & video to be sent to the two HDMI ports concurrently?

TIA for any clarification on this!

That works now, with these restrictions: Are there any restrictions on using both HDMI outputs at the same time?

Thanks!! From the link provided I'm presuming that to get 3D output and full audio output the 3D must go to HDMI 1 and the audio to HDMI 2. If reversed HDMI 1 would be downmixed to stereo...???

Correct. That's how it was intended to be used: HDMI1 for video, HDMI2 for audio when people have receivers that won't pass HDMI 1.4.

Hi guys,

First post on AVS Forums from the other side of the Pacific.

(1) As a universal disc player, the first thing I would like Oppo to include to is the ability to play karaoke disks. Both DVD-L or CD+G type disks. Unfortunately Oppo doesn't support this. Understand that karaoke is a niche thing, but it's very popular over in this part of the world.

(2) The second thing I'd like to see is IP controls and an app with the ability to easily import playlists from iTunes or easily create. The play based on locally attached storage or streamed.

(3) Tied together with the item (2) is the third wish of a visual jukebox interface that can browse / select music and movies. Easy search function instead of hunting through an endless list.

(4) Space provision for an internal 2.5" / 3.5" HDD. Cooling and noise maybe an issue, but it would be a neat solution for items (2) and (3).

^ An interesting idea on the Karaoke support. I don't know what might be involved in terms of licensing and copy protection.

Definitely needs bookmarks/favorites for networked media (particularly with the slow scrolling/selection process).

Sometimes it remembers where it last was but too many times I'll have to go to network media then select my PC (it isn't going to change in my case) then video (maybe they should make three network media shortcuts as I really only ever use it for video - not for music or pictures but it would be nice not to have to drill down to the type every time) then I click on folders all the way at the bottom, then I click on the folder TV shows, then I click on current TV shows, then I click on NCIS, then I click on the season - Seriously if I could go Straight to folders and skip picking my pc, video and folders every time that would be fan-tastic!

+1; even my dnla topfield pvr is faster scrolling ;settle for a 5/10% skip at a time of a ream of files if not feasible

An addition thats actually a deletion for a change ; lose the composite/s video and/or the component [hobbled by analog sunset ]. Pick 1 for dvd-a monitor compatibility possibly More room for the outputs not to mention room inside for better isolation [and that direct to the dacs usb feed mentioned earlier -1 less box ] that count.. And make the usb asynchronous to lose even more jitter

I know the 95 plays iso's over usb but +1 for streaming 3d full packet iso's from a nas That would be unique for a player afaik .Dont ask dont get I spose

How about a 2d/3d button on the remote? It'd be nice to be able to override the 3d for 3d-only discs, without having to navigate through the setup menu.

Some of my wishes have already been mentioned, some will never happen, but since we are wishing........

-Gracenote or other online service for onscreen display of music CDs

-Having the disc drawer close upon initial power up by pushing PLAY

-HD-DVD compatibility for truly universal player

-internal hard drive for onboard ripping/music management

-Bluetooth for wireless keyboard for username/password logins

-Visualization type screensaver display when music is playing...Geiss would be great

Hi guys,

Observed that Oppo has some funny text (characters) being displayed on the screen when playing some FLAC music files. The original text for artist, album and song is non-English and Windows displays the text (characters) properly. When I put these FLAC files on a USB disk and attach it to the Oppo, some of the text (characters) do not display properly. They're shown as squares.

The FLAC music files play fine and the album art displays properly. The text isn't right.

Oppo advised that there is no support for UTF-8 formatting and text character set.

So another wish list item for the future Oppo is UTF-8 support.

Steve

P.S. Oppo customer support is excellent. Got a reply within an hour!
