I have never owned an Oppo, with my PS3 doing a fine HD bluray presentation until now and a Panasonic mid level player from a couple years ago for when I have a 3d disc. I upgraded from a great RS 4810 JVC projector to a really fine RS500 PJ this year and am displaying on 8.5' wide 16x9 old school 2.8 Hi Power screen, perfectly situated for high lumens viewing above the projector, below the projector and alongside the projector. Am forgetting the guy's name now but from someone's information a few months back, I have an industry recognized projector calibrator right here in town with me. At some point this next year, the already great out of the box color performance from Zombie10K's settings in the +$3,500 projector forum, will be made to be the best they can be with a calibration for both Rec 709 and HDR. The Hi Power lumens coming back will lend themselves well to the amazing on / off CR of this projector and quite decent ansi contrast ..... toward HDR performance.

So, I skipped the early adopter releases from Samsung and Panasonic HDR capable UHD bluray players..... and all the bugs and new settings needed to be worked through. Waiting on the now approaching time frame for the new UHD Oppo. Without reading all the pages here and just skimming through the front page..... I say hell yeah .....give me the HDR capability to pair with that Hi Power screen and UHD input capabilities into the new Oppo player and certainly streaming through it programming ..... all with the Oppos's processing enhancements. One of these I don't see listed on the sticky front page specs and information as requested by people here is Darbee UHD processing for any UHD input run through the new Oppo player. It HAS to have been mentioned I am sure. UHD Darbee processing will rock. Have there been any rumors or discussion of it in this thread of Darbee continuing their relationship with Oppo into the new UHD players?

^ Those are specs from when the chip was first announced back in January. I believe there are some errors in that preliminary spec list. So don't take it as final.

They don't appear to be on the list of companies that will be there this year. I know they weren't there last year.

I heard today from "a little birdie" that the new Oppo will be out in November and retail for around $899. Whether it proves to be true remains to be seen.

Of course the Panasonic player does not support Dolby Vision.

Dolby Vision has a set of specifications written by Dolby rather than the Committee developed specifications for HDR10 that are open to multiple interpretations leading to the same type of problems that have always plagued HDMI CEC.

Dolby Vision is also Dynamic while the Spec for Dynamic HDR10 are still being drafted. The bandwidth requirements of Dolby Vision are significantly lower than HDR10. Yet another argument in favor of DV.

I will be waiting to see the actual price of the next OPPO player before making any purchase decisions.

Guys, I may be mistaken. The price might actually be $799. I remember thinking (when I was told the expected pricing) that it was only $100 more than the Panasonic. As such, I would wait until Oppo makes a formal announcement. When I speak with that person again, I will clarify what I heard. We also discussed the inclusion of Dolby Vision and it was mentioned that would be included as well. Time will tell and I take it with a grain of salt but I do trust the source reasonably well. I just don't trust my memory right now with regards to the price and will try to confirm that next week.

It would be still baseless, as Oppo has not made any announcement to their next UHD player specifics. Earlier we had people passing around it would only be $100 more then the previous player, possibly how this birdie came to be.

Back to any more good thoughts on what you would like in the future players?

I'll say it again, lower priced transport option. For some of us we just want what the oppo offers for the video side of things and have either invested in quality audio equipment already or won't notice a difference with our current equipment and just want the best quality picture

I really hope the Oppo will be about the same as the Panasonic.
Especially with Xbox One S and the rumoured PS4K being much cheaper!

I hope your birdies are wrong. I would also like to tell Oppo not to get carried away, they may start loosing their luster and unit movement numbers in a hurry.

Do not steal, The powers that be do not like the competition.
