Rumor on other forums say that Oppo has invited it's retail partners for their launch party (not sure if this is a public unveiling or private) at the end of this month.

so i emailed oppo so see if I could get on a list to preorder the 103 replacement and in the response along with the "by the end of the year" line they let me know that they " hope that the players will be released around the same price as our current line of players" thought that would be worth sharing

Good to know - I know that's been a talking point.

Rumors are always fun, but its still only a rumor particularly if there is no source linked aka the mysterious "other forums."

Does Oppo release the ci line at the same time as the regular players? I have a faint recollection that the 101ci came much later.

The CI player (which stands for Custom Installation) did come much later after the othe 10x players were released.
Only the one player has the designated CI attached to it's name and also the only player to have modular capabilities.
Oppo has given no indication if there will be a UHD player released that uses the same type of hardware setup.
In the past Oppo has released their lower level players first, then followed up with more audiophile type players after that.
We shall see if they follow the same protocol with their UHD line. So far Oppo is being tight lipped about the details of
the new player(s) coming soon, aside from hoping to have it ready for sale by the end of the year.

Yes, the 101CI was released a lot later than the BDP-10x players. The 101CI is the first time Oppo released such a product, so it's hard to say if and/or when they'll release a similar product in the future.

Oh I know you beta testers love and sometimes hate when oppo sends you their new products.

It has to be fun to mess with a new product. If all goes smoothly it has to be a lot of fun. But when there are lots of problems it has to suck trying to figure out how to fix them.

So I guess probably a love, hate relationship. Lol

It means I am cheap, you need to pay AVS $25 a year for the right to have a custom user title along with the silver banner. Other then that it means exactly what it says.

8K

I am ready to put my 103 in the bedroom and buy a UHD player. I think Oppo should get a leg up and make their new player 8K compatible. We are only a few years away from those 8K TVs.

Without any emoticons, it's tough to know if your joking or serious, so I'll assume serious... 8K decoder chips that would give them all the functionality they need from a company like MediaTek aren't even close to being developed and would cost a fortune if they did. There most likely isn't a transport mechanism available that would be future compatible in that way either. Such a player would have to be a LOT more expensive than a 4K player, would run hot (fans anyone?), and would probably end up being a compromise when 8K eventually becomes available as things like the decoder chips would be better a few years down the road. IMHO, it's better to spend ~$500 on a 4K player "now" and ~$500 on an 8K player later than to spend $2000 on a theoretical 8K player now that will end up having compromises.

I have one of these.. (I have all of Oppo's players at one point or another in my life). It's quite a nice player. Solid build, not too many basic features. Feels like a Merc - well made, but you need to pay for extra features. Does the job of playing a disc very well. Good components too.

So I felt that it will be a mule to make the 113 because if it works well, they can take most of the internal components, use the right laser and they have the new UHD player..

What does a soft launch mean? I'm on the verge of buying a Philips UHD player and I might hold out if I can buy the Oppo in 2 weeks.

I suspect that the usual American AVS members here who are privy to the launch will be invited, and be sworn to secrecy about revealing details of their trial, even though plenty will be dropping hints that they are in this inner circle, and when they submit their reports with details of any teething issues, the product will have a bigger launch to the public. This might be months away, depending on the results of this more limited release.

In the past there has been a launch, not a "soft launch".
Players have received updates and features after launch.

No, he was only saying there's never been a soft launch. Nothing more should be read from his comment. You guys should know by now that beta testers can't and won't comment on things that Oppo hasn't made public, so please don't twist our words around. Oppo will release the player when it's ready as they always do. These "my buddy's sister's brother's son's father's uncle works for Oppo and said such and such" comments should be read with a bucket of salt handy...
