While I have disassembled 3 gun crt's, danged if I can get into the guts.

Chinese finger torture trick?
Undid the screws after finding a SM on line, 5... it then shows lifting the top right off. Side panels removed via plastic pressure clips but no joy on top or front panel. Glad a disk is not stuck in there as the top/front must go to get to the disk release inside.

Soooo, tried the spit on the disk center hub, run for a few, then wipe repeat. Strange thing is that the failure seems less prominent, but with a few aged dvd's, it is still a problem.

Since I have an older s-550 that works and the 780 is good with all bd's.... I will follow up with a thorough cleaning once I learn the Pandora box trick from on of you guys.

In the meantime.... Amazon is replacing with a new unit from another maker that allows for CC from Amazon Prime, something that the 780 would not handle anyway.

I don't remember how to open that model. But the cleaning tips here may help.

Really do appreciate the help mdave!

I had found a part of the thread you linked and went after it.
I've had the cases off of more than a few dvd players over the years, just none as snug as this one.

I've owned just about every OPPO since inception but when they force me to use a ROKU stick to stream CC from Amazon, well that is just counter to every fibre in my soul. So... off to Samsung I go for a cheap quick fix. Probably won't be long for the disk spinning days are over for me anyway.

Again, Thanks for the leads and the help!

For those still interested in getting a new S790, Best Buy has them in stock for shipping. Price is $249.99 w/free shipping.

Yes I did see that but honestly they are just taking
advantage of a great player. I only paid $199 when
I pre-ordered it from SONY day-zero.

Official 2012 Sony BDP-S790 Thread

That's true but for whoever out there that still would like a chance to own this player, this could be a last chance as time passes is becoming extremely difficult to find one new at a decent price. Not even at Ebay.

Thanks for sharing. If it were $149, I'd snatch up another one without even thinking about it, but at this stage it's probably better to get the 6200 or 7200 among the Sony players.

I sold my 790 for $100 a few years ago. It had a terrible Netflix app, weighed a ton, and has a few features most people don't need anymore (dual HDMI, HD decoding, analog stereo). If you need an old analog player, it doesn't even have component. I don't understand how it's achieved this mythical status.

I would have loved to buy your OLD S790.

I don't use Netflix.

My current player is an older s370, which for me has been great. I mainly just use it for watching blu rays movies, but I've been wondering if there's any real difference in picture quality and sound if I upgraded. The s790 seems like a top notch player but the reviews seem mixed for the 6200 and 7200. On the fence of what I should do.

There is no picture/sound quality difference among any of the above for blu-ray unless you have a Sony TV with Triluminos support. What features of the 790 do you need given the fact you're fine with the 370's current feature set? What do the 6200/7200 lack? Why would you not also consider the 1200, 3200 or 5200?

The customer service rep at BestBuy 800 # will just Google the model number to see what prices pop up and go to the Sony website if you tell them that's where you saw the best price

Well, I read all these reviews of people describing how amazing their picture and sound are with these newer players. Kind of like, am I missing out on my movie viewing experience by still rocking an older model. Mostly, just wondering if it was time for an upgrade and if so, which one makes for the best experience.
