I thought I'd go ahead and kick off this topic seeing as I've initiated the threads for the last two Sony flagship blu-ray players.

Sony has announced their new flagship blu-ray player--the BDP-S790:

Features:
  • 3D Blu-ray Disc Full HD 1080p playback
  • Built-in Wi-Fi for streaming entertainment
  • Sony Entertainment Network: Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, Hulu Plus and more
  • Skype capability with optional camera
  • Super Bit Mapping and 4K upscaling for amazing picture quality

I am interested. Still have my S350. Good player, but still slow to load and doesn't have online streaming.

I purchased a S770 a while back. In quiet parts of movies, I could hear the drives high-pitched, fine wine noise. I couldn't deal with that, so I took it back.

Here is hoping this player doesn't have any noises and faster load times than the S780; and I may be buying it.

4K upscaling sounds cool, but do you need a 4K tv to take advantage? I haven't been keeping up with any 4K info

I still have my S770 and plan to keep it for a long time as I'm completely satisfied with its performance. I can't see a compelling reason to upgrade to the S790 yet ... I'll wait to see what the HT experts have to say once its released and they've had the opportunity to test.

I also have an S350, however it doesn't get used much--in spare bedroom right now.

Yup. Otherwise you'd be scaling twice - up then down - which is something you don't want to do.

And I just noticed that somebody else had started a thread on the player previous to this one: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1386151
