I bought t the Pioneer BD52FD at BB for $315 open box. It does not have WIFI, and I cant practically run CAT5 to it without having a cord going through the middle of my house. Is it ok if I connect to the internet via hardline intermittently for updates instead of keeping it connected 24/7? I just want to be sure I get firmware updates. I dont care about streaming media at this point and plus have a PS3.

Also, if anyone has a second please look at my post under the HELP me choose a bd player.

You don't even need internet for updates. Those can usually be done by disc. You won't get BD-live content, but most of that is worthless anyway. So it's really not important at all.

Another alternative if you have wireless in your house is to buy an wireless access point that you can place near your player and use that for a wireless connection. Wireless from your router to the access point and then a short Cat5 cable from the AP to your player.

One of these can be had for $15 after rebate, if patient.
