Panasonic moved to the mediatek chipset. 99% sure even the 460 has it also. I think their UHD player will use the Uniphier.

On the other hand, I have done A/B tests for DVD upscaling and the Panasonics were relatively poor to me.
Yeah the Blu Ray playback in particular. The BDT500 was the equal of the Sony S1000ES on 2D BluRay, I liked them both better than the Sony S790 in that regard, and the 3D Blu Ray playback is also really good, maybe a bit better than the Sony S790 in that regard.

I didnt do comparisons with DVD playback. But from reviews I just assumed that most of the bugs had been worked out and carried forward since the mid 00s. That being said, I havent been dissappointed in DVD playback by any of these units, really.

I just recieved an LG BD730 (last years TOTL) which isnt very highly praised for DVD playback or build quality. Mainly to experiment with LGs Magic Remote and WebOS Interface. Ill probably sell this one off as well, afterwards. I like to tinker, if you havent noticed.

PS - I got rid of the Denon 2930 because it isnt very fast. I did like the AL24 upscaling processing of Redbook CDs though. The Panasonic RP91 I picked up to replace it also does audio upscaling, has nice DACs, plus headphone jack with volume control and front panel control of the powering off the video section (audio only). It's a great unit. Really like the versatile scaler in this one, even though it's deinterlacer isnt the best. No HDMI but Im using the RCA outs to vintage receivers (currently a Realistic STA-90 from late 70s). I had one before that I gave to my brother (which developed an issue with the drawer recently).

I dont try to do anything, but I do source BluRays from the library, and those discs are often treated poorly, and playback of imperfect discs becomes an issue. If you want to test your player, get some kids animated films from the library. Notoriously abused.

Hello,
Maybe someone here can help me about this.
See my signature for my system.
I am considering to maybe add a minidsp NanoAvr DL to my system. This device must be feeded with decoded audio signal (pcm).
BDT-500 is capable of that.So I tried to do the decoding in my dvd player instead of my receiver
When I swich audio settings in te dvd player from Bit Steams to pcm I must raise the volume of my receiver to playback a movie at the same level (more or less 4-5 db up in the main volume of the receiver).
Does it make sense or are my ears (or my brain) tricked me?
If not, why's that and, more importantly, if it makes a difference in the sound volume must I fear a lesser audio 5.1 channels quality for surround sound?

My system 5.1 :
Yamaha RX-V773/PSB Alpha B and C1/sub SVS PC 2000/Samsung UN55ES8000 (long side)/DVD Panasonic BDT-500/ set-top (cable box) rented from cable co.
My room:15'4" x 11' 6" x 7'6"

I really like the LG BP730 BluRay Player, not necessarily as a Blu Ray player but for it's Magic Remote and excellent WebOS Interface and Streaming/Media playback. It's not a bad Blu Ray player but that's not where it shines.

Samsung no doubt has a great interface as well. I use it daily on my Samsugn F8500 2014 plasma.
