I on the other hand was unable to play "The Artist" this last weekend from Netflix. Sent that one back and got another one and it didn't play. Took the Denon out and hooked up my old Pio 51 and it played fine...anyone else having this problem with The Artist BD?
So to answer my own question about The Artist won't play. This is my first player with BD-live and if I disable BD-live the player will play The Artist just fine. I guess its trying to pick something up that's not there from the internet.
Was thinking about this player, but remembering the abysmal load times last time I looked into getting a BR player (2 mins to load a disc? lolz!!) Has Denon fixed these issues? Is this player stable?
Thanks for the netflix dolby digital plus (netflix streaming) reply gce! Almost sold on the 1713. But now that you guys have had this thing a while....how are the load times? I realize it depends on the disc, but just in general?
It indicated out-of-the-box that there was an update available after hooking it up to my network. Downloaded the updated but it failed to install time and time again. So after contact with Denon Service I send it back and after 2 weeks I received the player back with the latest software and the update issue fixed (accoding to Denon service).
I've bought tihs player for ofcoure BD playback but also its (video) network features, as my AVR4311 only has network music features. I have a gigabit network router (Samsung) and a Conceptronic 2 Gig NAS server wich runs fine.
Now In the 1713 menus I can see the NAS serves but as soon as I click on it the player freezes. After long trying I found I can enter the NAS's content only sometimes when I stream music or a video to eg my laptop. But most of the time it just freezes with my only option rebooting the BDP. After about 30 min or so rebooting the BDP and the NAS, I sometimes get it to work and when it finally works, it works great through out the complete movie, great picture and without glitches etc.....
Ive checked all settings in the NAS, network and in the 1713, all seems fine. Streaming and entering content on the NAS from the AVR-4311 (only music) works always and without a glitch. I've reset everyting already once to factory settings but also this didnt help. I also check the network cable between router and BDP and that seems fine to.
Has anyone experienced the same / simular issues? I think I need to call the Denon service again and see if there perhaps is an issue with the network card in the 1713....

Hey there, thank you for noticing. I deleted the original video, boosted the volume and reuploaded. Also, all the youtube comments and responses are enabled. Thanks once again! Please find the re-uploaded video here:
Much better video bro. Looks like a nice unit. Much better sound but there was a little delay in your voice and your video, but it still was a good video. Where you from since your unit has the non-standard U.S. power outlet plug. Anyway, at least here in the U.S. Denon really stands behind their products with a 30 day money back gurantee and if you don't like their product they will even pay for the shipping back to them. Good warranty and gurantee. Also good customer support.
If you use DVD's in your unit, let us know what the quality is like. Also put the unit through some heavy testing. The hotter you can make the internal video processing chip: that will determine the output video quality. I know on the Oppo BDP-103, after 2 hours of movie playing, the quality of the DVD's start to go down rapidly. Oppo really went downhill in their new 103 version. It's a shame too. There 83 and 93 versions were top notch players. Maybe they will be able to fix this with a future firmware update. Only time will tell. Peace out bro and thanks for giving us a link to see your video.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your comment. This is my first video, so I hope to improve with my next one. This video has been recorded with my iMac so I probably need to figure out a better alternative. I come from Slovakia, which is in central Europe.
In Europe, in European Union specifically, the guarantee is given by European law and you can return the unit within 7 days without giving a reason, but only if ordered on-line. The shop then pays the shipping costs. If you buy it in a brick and mortar shop, no such guarantee is given. However, everything has a minimum of 2 year guarantee, even Apple products.
I want to test the unit extensively within the next month and will gladly post my findings and opinion here, once I am confident I know the unit inside out.
I am sorry to hear the bad news regarding Oppo, they have always been the company I looked up to as the golden standard for quality.
Thank you all for your feedback and your opinions.
I'm considering this player to pair up with my AVR-4311CI and to replace Playstation 3 I currently use for playing DVD and BD. Plan is to use it for DVD and BD and maybe for Netflix. The biggest reason I'm considering this unit is because it's compatible with Denon's iPhone app and I think it would be simpler for me and my wife to use one app to control both devices. Will I really see the difference in picture and sound quality when compared to $179 Samsung? I have descent 7.1 setup with all Klipsch speakers.

If all you need it for is BD and DVD then you could find a player cheaper to do that. This is a universal player that plays SACD's and other audio formats that other plays don't. So if you're not into other audio format other than CD then you don't have to pay $500 for a player.
My plan was the same, but the app proved to be a little less convenient than anticipated, also the denon will likely have almost identical sound and picture to a 180 dollar samsung. Compared to PS3, I ran across a disc that chopped on the denon (Sanctum) and ran fine on the PS3. PS3 also resumes the film when you leave to do something else and return, the Denon remembers it in a weird way: 1/if you memorize it - will forget it when you turn the player off, 2/turn the player off WHILE watching. This is a bit annoying. Also, the app does control the player, but in a different way than you would expect. Unlike the receiver, which you control via the ethernet network connection, the player is in fact controlled via HDMI CEC by the av receiver. Should you one day replace the receiver with a NON denon unit, the app will stop working, since it works with denon receivers only. Also, since 4311 is 2 generations behind the 1713, expect a slight design mismatch. As gce said above, the real advantage is the "universal" bit, the SACD and DVD-Audio playback.
